The library at the Sentinel Hotel was the perfect space for our intimate wedding. Photographer: Kyle Carnes, www.kylecarnesphotography.com

We booked this venue/caterer in December 2017 for our May wedding after our original venue shut down abruptly without notice. We worked with Kirsten Sheahan from Jake's Catering and had the perfect intimate wedding in the Sentinel Hotel's historic Library. Kirsten was kind, thoughtful, responsive, obliging, and made the whole process so easy to plan on short notice. She eased my mind from the troubles we had with the prior venue, and I can't imagine getting married anywhere else. It was exceptionally beautiful, intimate, warm, and romantic. We did not have to worry about a single thing! The banquet staff were completely professional, warm and attentive to our every need, very good at their work, and we had a seamless top notch service the entire event. The food too was delicious and our 27 guests raved about the food selections we made. My only complaint is that the day went by too quickly. I highly recommend Jake's Catering at the Sentinel Hotel for your next event!

Where do I start? The Sentinel Hotel and Jakes Catering are the best in class! I give them 5 stars in all aspects. I recently got married in Portland, OR and hosted the reception at the Sentinel Hotel's Governor Ballroom and used their in-house catering: Jake's Catering. Let me start from the beginning. During my exploration visit, I immediately loved the location of the hotel. It's in the most "happening" part of town: the pearl district, where beautiful shops, cafes/restaurants, and "brewery central" resides. Tree lined streets and nearby parks border the hotel making it a great place for out-of-towners to putts around during a wedding weekend. The Venue: I love that the hotel has history to it. The designers who recently updated the hotel did a fantastic job my adding in funky Portland touches while still preserving the historical theme of the hotel. To sum it up: The outside of the hotel: stunning, the lobby (made from old book shelves): fun, the hotel bar: very popular filled with beautiful people, hotel rooms: top notch, the hotel's little details (hallways doors ceilings): all well thought through and unique!!!! Everything about the "look" of this hotel is amazing and creates a great theme for a wedding. The Governor ballroom looks like a classic lavish jazz ballroom with 40 ft. ceilings and a ridiculous amount of crown moldings and grand columns. It certainly gives a Wow Factor when you step foot into it. Hotel Service: several of my guest stated that was the best hotel they had ever stayed in. The service was out of this world. All the staff made us feel so special and welcomed. Jakes Catering Food and Planning: Julie Weiss, Todd and their banquet teams are catering geniuses. Their level of knowledge in the catering industry is far more superior than the average caterer. They are competitively price, a dream to work with, and executed their food and services better than I could have dreamed of. All of the catering staff were dressed in sharp uniforms, they set up 2 beautiful bars with twinkling candles all over them. They didn't miss a mark on the food service schedule. The dinner was a pre-plated dinner with bread/butter and a caprese salad to start, then we went into a chicken and jumbo shrimp dish, and finished off with their signature crème brulee. The whole service flowed beautifully which timed out our event perfectly, not to mention the food was delicious. I had guest comment that that the banquet staff were so attentive it felt like there was one banquet staff per guest. "Every time I was getting close to finishing my drink the banquet personnel topped off my drink immediately". Many brides state that planning a wedding can be stressful, but Jake's catering will help you alleviate your stress. They take care of majority of your setup: chairs, tables, glassware/silverware, candle votives, bar setup, cake cutting, and linen napkins/ table linen (this all comes free when you use their catering). The planning process with Julie was a blast. My mom and fiancé developed great banter with her, which brought in humor to the whole process, which then turned the planning process, believe it or not, into a FUN process. Julie was professional and personable, she was easy to get ahold of and easy to get decisions made and out of the way. I had some outrageous request and they pulled through (set up times, table count specifics). Their menu tasting and "week of walk throughs" made us feeling like royalty (private rooms, teams of catering staff serving us, meeting the chefs, etc. the whole 9 yards)! Thank you to the whole team that made our wedding a dream come true!

One stressed out wanna be chef (Me) on the mountain needed a bit of help with a Thanksgiving feast for Kings. Busy Bee Catering swooped in and saved the day with their "Sides-Giving" offerings fit for royalty! Their fluffy mashed potatoes and gravy were divine. Their chicken apple sausage stuffing was a show stopper, as was the relish tray (as big as a trough for my goats), roasted vegetables and Fall harvest salad topped with sinfully delicious candied pecans. I feel like getting married again so Busy Bee Catering can handle the food. Thank you so much! You'll be seeing me and my hungry tummy again SOON!

We also used them at Alpine Events for our rehersal dinner with 52 people and the dinner was fabulous and the event space so lovely and personal for our gathering. Jan & Dani even decorated with the runners/candles/banner and flowers that we dropped off while at the rehersal. I can't say enough about them! Janey

The ambience is super cute and inviting it's just a really pleasant place to walk into and spend a few minutes. While waiting, I noticed their dessert display and got curious about something that wasn't cheesecake. I asked about it and was told it was basboosa (a semolina cake with coconut and rose water). I mentioned I'd have to try it next time and without hesitation they brought out a sample for me. It was absolutely delicious. It was soft, moist, and slightly crumbly like a tender sponge with a bit more texture from the semolina. The sweetness is light and not overpowering with a subtle coconut flavor that added richness and a delicate floral note from the rose water that made it taste just a little more special. They also packed up sample for my partner to try on the house. The kindness and generosity meant so much to me. Every time we come in everyone is so warm, welcoming and genuinely kind. We're really grateful for this place and will definitely keep coming back for our favorite cheesecake and now basboosa too.

On our wedding day we were blindsided by not having The beef at all, and no nuts in the salad. I was charged the full price though. We asked the waitstaff about it and they talked to Katie Kearn, the representative that I had talked to throughout the whole process and the same person who did my tasting where we had agreed upon chicken and beef for entrees and she admitted to them that a mistake was made and said she would be in contact with me. I emailed her the day after the wedding. She did not respond immediately- I filed claims with my card companies. She then responded that my final invoice had been changed to omit the beef and I paid it so that means that I "agreed." The final invoice was paid on our wedding day and it was sent through the knot, not through email like the rest of the invoices. On the knot it opens very narrow and is hard to read. It was a total bait and switch and never discussed with me. I never agreed to pay the full price for only chicken after we had agreed to beef and chicken for that same price. As it was, the chicken was very dry and not at all like it had been at the tasting. She then offered me back a $400 refund, which is PATHETIC. I had even bought the menu cards and mailed them out with the invitations and many guests had chosen beef. We had to use some of our speech time to apologize to guests and explain what happened. This was an awful experience and I would never recommend them again to anyone.

They were also nice and hot, although a few were soggy. They sprinkle dried herbs on them, which is a nice touch The cookie looked different from the pic on the menu; it looked like a flat, white, unexciting disc. In real life, it is 2 glorious, light, melt-in-your-mouth shortbreads sandwiching a generous amount of creamy, rich, not-too-sweet dulce de leche. I highly recommend the alfajores!

We didn't want to do a traditional sit-down or buffet dinner and worked with Reedville to do more of a food station, heavy hors d'oeuvres set-up for our cocktail party reception. Every single item they made was seriously delicious, not just 'good' - NW salmon cakes, goat cheese tartlets, teriyaki meatballs for passed apps, and the charcuterie presentation was beautiful. Sweet chili shrimp skewers, thai peanut chicken, asparagus risotto, arugula salad, plus two custom items we asked for: pork belly bao buns and fried chicken sliders. Everything was out of this world. When we asked to do pork belly bao buns, they didn't bat an eye or even ask any questions - and then absolutely nailed it. The amount of food was perfect. They also tended bar for us with 2 signatures and a full bar and everyone was happy and drunk the whole evening :) The team was super friendly and professional, and Jessica's responsiveness was lightning fast.
