Made with a flavorful safrito, saffron and fresh herbs, every bite is flavorful, the rice moist, and the bottom layer gets that signature crispy layer, the most desired bite, the socarrat. For the past few years, the condo where I live hires Crown Paella for our summer social. They do an exceptional job from set up through clean up, providing top notch service. We usually have about 40 people attend and we order two types of paella: * Crown Royale - Chicken, mussels, clams, shrimp, chorizo,sweet peppers and rice. * Mercado - loaded with artichoke hearts, sweet red peppers, mushrooms, Romano beans corona beans and rice We also have salad which is dressed perfectly with a vinaigrette, the perfect complimentary side, and bread & butter. When I attended the first year, I immediately marked my calendar for the next year because I didn't want to miss the paella! It's that darn good! AVOID THIS PLACE. By far the worst when it comes to communication. Pre-pandemic, we had to sometimes email Emily 2-3 times before getting a response weeks later. When we said we had to reschedule our wedding due to the COVID pandemic, they said that was fine and would send us an updated contract later...which we never got. Mind you, we even CONFIRMED the date for this year last August. We hadn't heard from them since then so we sent them an email yesterday to re-confirm the date...and their response? "Thank you for the message! At this point we are just operating at outdoor venues, and because of our smaller staff size we actually can't add any additional weddings to our roster for the summer or fall. It has been such a pleasure communicating with you two throughout your planning though-wishing you all of our best for a beautiful celebration!" We get that they're choosing to do only outdoor venues right now. But to send us such a generic email and to call our event "any additional weddings" despite confirming the date LAST YEAR is so rude. They didn't even bother saying "sorry". This just goes to show how it's so important to sign contracts...but honestly, we asked so many times for it and they never sent us anything. We heard their food was awesome but we wouldn't know. We don't know why our venue had them as a "preferred caterer" when they're horrible at communication and are so unprofessional. read more

I highly recommend their takeout, while they still have takeout. The Paella is absolutely amazing! The Sangria is a must, with a bottle of their sparkling water. We hope that they will continue the takeout option once this lockdown is over. It is more than worth the price. You get a full meal, that is incredible. Crown Paella catered our wedding, and it was an all-around amazing experience. I highly recommend CP! The paella itself is a tasty and notable experience that will make your event more memorable. On top of that, the salad, bread, and hor d'oeuvres are all delicious. - Paella scales really well to very large parties. Folks with experience ordering catering for 100+ people probably expect dry chicken or lukewarm beef; paella suffers from none of these issues. - Paella is also easy to flex around most dietary restrictions. (Always gluten free, easy vegan options, almost all common allergy foods are not in it, or easily omitted.) - CP is super flexible and you can make changes even just a few days before the event itself. Additionally, Emily was great to work with. She is incredibly capable at handling complex events, and she really went above and beyond. - She had a consultation meeting with me to make sure the specialty cocktails at our wedding were exactly what I want: she took vague words ("crisp, refreshing, something like snap peas, probably some citrus, but not too much. definitely not too sweet. just like balanced, you know? probably vodka???") and somehow made a cocktail that was exactly what I wanted. (The cocktail was a huge hit and everyone was raving about how great they were.) - We lost our wedding venue a little over a month prior to the event, and she helped a ton in the scramble to find a replacement venue. - She helped handle all the rentals and coordinated it with the venue to streamline the whole experience for us. Overall, the whole experience of working with CP was great: they were extremely helpful in a stressful "we-just-lost-our-venue" scramble in the weeks before, and, night of, everything went really smoothly. They helped make our wedding night perfect. Emily is incredibly capable and one of the most competent caterer, coordinator, all-around-everything-related-to-big-events person I've met. She's a little hard to reach several months before your event, but close to your event, she'll handle everything with aplomb and it will all go really, really well. read more

Where to begin?! We were absolutely thrilled with Crown Paella as our wedding caterer. We knew we wanted unique, tasty wedding food that wasn't the standard wedding fare, and BOY did these guys deliver. The paella and appetizers were all incredible, the drinks were tasty, and best of all, Emily and Scott Ketterman are a joy to work with and be around. Emily and Scott are the sweetest couple and we really enjoyed getting to know/hanging out with them at our tasting. They are both passionate about the food and it really shows. We felt like Emily became our friend throughout the planning process, which made it a real treat to have her around on the wedding day! She made sure we got to eat all of the appetizers and made sure both of us had drinks in hand. Emily also went far and above her job description when we had some trouble with another vendor. She took over the situation and made sure it was handled -- all the while making sure that I was doing okay in the process. We seriously love her. The food itself was astounding. Our guests (and my husband and I!) still can't stop talking about it a month later! The delicious smell of the paella cooking during cocktail hour, then the fun presentation, really added to the ambiance. and was exactly what we wanted out of our wedding food :) Of course, the signature drinks were also delicious! They catered for a team event that my work had in Hood River. The paella was fabulous. They take no short cuts. It had the yummy burnt layer on the bottom(socarrat), and the seafood was delicious. It was moist, and the rice was cooked perfectly. They use plenty of saffron, which adds an excellent aroma that can't be beaten. Beside the paella, their sides are awesome. There were crostinis was aoili and octopus. 3 types of cheese. Fig, procioutto and blue cheese. Dessert was creme brulee which was also great; it had a very nice touch of orange. read more

Got to sample Crown Paella at Corks and Forks today, and it was really delicious! Most people were sampling foods that could sit long periods of time, like poke and salads. But their paella took a lot of effort and was complex and delicious. The seafood was fresh and not remotely fishy. I even liked the mussels, which are usually not my jam. I typically prefer clams. The rice was plump and not broken, and it had a beautiful crust on the bottom like paella is supposed to! The vegetarian version with morel mushrooms looked equally beautiful, but I was too embarrassed to go back for seconds after gobbling up my first portion. Bottom line: The food prepared by Crown Paella is exquisite in taste and in presentation. We hired them for our wedding of 260 guests and people were delighted by the food. We felt very well taken care of on the day of the event. Emily came and found me and brought me a sangria to make sure I had a drink in my hand, two of the servers came and found my mom and independently brought her two pieces of the carrot cake that she had prepared as one of many wedding cakes. The staff was a lot of fun -- they capped the night with their own little dance circle rocking out to some of the tunes our DJ played. The only tiny little thing we heard from guests was that their plates were sometimes cleared too quickly...they had gotten up to talk to someone and wanted to come back and finish the rest of their food. But this might be more of a guest error type thing... like don't abandon you plate and expect it to still be there. I think it's important to know that if you hire Crown Paella, they will come through on the day of and do a really awesome job in terms of food, presentation and service. I was a little bit stressed out trying to communicate with Crown Paella throughout the planning process but I think knowing that they do such a great job with the end product can potentially help alleviate any stress that a potential customer may feel during the planning process. I try to be really organized and nail down details far in advance, especially since popular vendors get booked really early in the Portland area. I think what I learned through the process of planning the wedding is that there are certain elements, such as planning the food, which actually can't be 100% nailed down in advance since it's so dependent on the final guest count which was continuously changing, literally up until the day before the wedding. When I first reached out to CP about a year in advance of our August 2016 wedding, I heard back immediately but then when I tried to follow up, I didn't hear back for 4 weeks and ended up having our venue coordinator reach out to see if we could get details nailed down. Looking back on it now, I can see that they were probably immersed in the details of other summer weddings and were pretty swamped but at the time, it felt as if they didn't want our business. We also never had a contract with CP which definitely made me unnecessarily panicky at various points but in the end it all turned out beautifully.
