I'm truly happy that Jaime C. Velasquez Park had a facelift last year. The pavements surrounding the park have been fixed. Gone are the days of uneven and narrow sidewalk surface. It's now safer to run or jog around the area without fear of breaking one's ankles.
Before, dog owners used to bring their pets inside the park to do their business. It was always a possibility to step on something gross left by pets and their irresponsible owners. But after the renovation, the park management has prohibited the bringing of pets inside the park. Now, you can lie down on the grass, sit on a bench, and just hang out inside the park knowing that there are no hidden surprises to ruin your day. Also, ball games are not permitted in the area.
The playground for kids was also improved. Swings, slides and monkey bars are all new. The surface surrounding the playground is rubberized, so it's soft. Even if kids fall down, there's lesser chance of getting hurt badly. Another visible improvement is the water fountain near the main entrance and playground. The fountain lights up with different colors at night. Security has also been improved in the park. The park closes at 11:00pm but people can still use the sidewalks for a late-night jog or stroll.
Every Saturday, the famous Salcedo Saturday Market is held at the open carpark side of Jaime C. Velasquez Park. The weekly event offers a variety of food choices, organic stuff, a wet market, and other fresh and unique finds. read more
