Jade is one of those rare people who is both lovely and talented at her work, making it a joy to sit in her chair for hours while she works her magic. In the past, she provided me with a nice layered cut, as my first COVID trim (so nervous to try a new hairdresser after being with one in another state for 15 years). I reached out to Jade and she quickly responded to my message for an appointment. We checked in about a haircut and discussed possibly colors for my tweenish daughter. My daughter was surprised and threw us both a curveball when it came to the color highlights she wanted in her hair. After thinking about it and talking about it for months, I finally booked an appointment for blue ombre. Omg, I couldn't be happier! Jade was running a bit late with the last appointment when I went, but I didn't mind this time since I wasn't in any particular rush. I had a few ideas in mind, and she was great at helping me choose what would work well for my face shape, hair length, etc. I love the blend and keeping the roots the original colour will help the grow-out look better since it's already the colour it needs to be. The process was long-ish which was to be expected with hair colouring, but like I said, I couldn't be happier. I definitely want to book my next hair appointment with her when the time comes. The shop was a cute little salon on Larkin St, amongst a bunch of apartment buildings in Nob Hill. It was easy to find since it was one of the few businesses on the street. The decor is really nice and modern with mirrors everywhere so you can admire your new 'do before you leave ;) There were a fair number of people going in and out while I was there, and I got the impression that they're regulars which speaks well of a business. I've been Jade's client for 4 years and I've never been so happy with my hair in my life. I would never go to anyone else! I feel SO lucky to have found her and I am SO excited every single time she works her magic. Jade is an absolute expert in color, especially balayage. She is so knowledgeable and talented. She knows how to mix the perfect tones for my skin and spends so much time making sure the color blends seamlessly. She can do everything else too - incredible cuts, ombre, highlights, all-over color, perms, brazilian blowouts, weddings! I just know that finding an expert in balayage is really rare and she blows me away every time. Jade is also an amazing person. She is so cool, laid-back, and easy to talk to. Because I have long, thick hair, my color appointments take upwards of three hours, but honestly it flies by because I love hanging out with her. I would put up with hours of lackluster conversation in the pursuit of incredible hair, but it's SO nice that I don't have to. I actually look forward to catching up with her every single time. Jade is very reasonable about pricing. Her cuts are extremely affordable, especially for an expensive city like San Francisco. I have paid way more to get way less. She also prices color very fairly and appropriately. I personally choose a style that takes more time and product, so it's more expensive, but the results are far beyond what you pay. And when I've done single-process color, for example, it's so affordable! I also love that Jade is very straightforward and understanding about pricing, so you know exactly what you're getting. Preposterous right? But all these unexpectedly wonderful touches made for the most out-of-this-world salon experience. Going above and beyond is an understatement when it comes to the fierce Ms. Jade Mendoza. A month in advance, we started exchanging emails chatting about the depth and color of ombre I wanted. She was super responsive and shared several photos of medium length styles for inspiration. Most salons operate within daytime business hours but she said she would be happy to take me in at 5:30 once I was done with work. When I arrived at the cute Nob Hill salon, I was supplied with bottomless green tea and Jade thoughtfully explained what she thought my hair could a.) handle and b.) would look the most natural (well, as natural as you can get when it comes to ombre). Deftly wrapping up my thick, heavy hair is no small feat and the entire process took five hours but it flew by in the blink of an eye. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the four of us (two guests, two stylists) kept up a lively conversation the entire time. We bonded over everything from sushi to celebrities to must-follow Instagram handles for cute animal pics. The end result was a gorgeous ashy blonde that blended up into warmer colors and then into my roots. Jade carefully framed my face and styled my hair straight so I could see the ombre to the fullest. She wisely said that if someone immediately curls your hair after an ombre job, they most likely messed it up and are hiding their harsh lines. Tsk tsk.
