She told me she could do it, but unfortunately, it became clear during the haircut that she did not know how to achieve the style. She cut my hair short and then tried to use a hairdryer and comb to make it look like the pictures, but it did not work. I showed her the reference photos again and asked if she could get help from someone else. She asked a colleague, who showed her how to cut the style, but she still seemed unsure how to do it. Eventually, the owner had to step in and finish the haircut for me. For a long-hair haircut that cost about $100 total ($85 for the haircut plus a $15 tip), I was very disappointed with the experience. At this price point, I expected the stylist to be able to achieve the hairstyle she had confirmed she could do, or to be upfront from the beginning if it was outside her expertise. Unfortunately, based on my experience, it was not worth the price or time.

San Fran--you have no idea how lucky you just got! I had to say good-bye to my longtime friend, and the BEST hair stylist I've ever had: Glenn Gustavik, who has just moved to the Jackson Place Salon from his ultra-cool shop in Seattle. Where to start? I have always had terrible hair (thin, frizzy, WASP-y) that took forever to grow, and tried every product on the planet to get lush, long tresses. Glenn introduced me to hair extensions, and I will never go back! They are so easy to deal with, no one EVER guesses that they're fake, and now I have hair that looks like a celebrity's. I'm someone who's consumed with subtlely and not trying to look like I'm someone I'm not, and Glenn GETS it. Not only the extensions, but the color he does is always fabulous and natural-looking, and the cuts he gives me are gorgeous (he trained with Vidal Sassoon in NYC) and exactly what I'm looking for. He definitely considers what YOU want, and isn't one of those stylists who just does his own thing. He has an amazing eye for what flatters. Most of all, he's all about making women look naturally beautifully (but he also does perfect mens' cuts--I've seen him in action). Kimberly is #1 and the Avatar of Hair! I have been getting my hair cut, colored, permed, straightend, highlights, rearranged in every way since I was 5 years old. :) :) :) My stylist is like my doctor....b/c I love to look good. Kimberly is expert at what she does and over qualified for SF. She should only be doing Madonna's hair or the 1st Lady, but she is down to earth and brings her good energy into making your head her art sculpture project. You walk out not looking like a million bucks, but 15 trillion bucks. She rocks! I have not gotten a haircut since 2008. That and I like having very long hair. But it was time for maintenance so it can continue to grow and be long. One of my best friends, who is VERY picky about her own hair, and will spend hundreds to keep it looking as well as it does...set me up with Kimberly G. of the Jackson Place Salon. I'm almost sorry it will be another two years before I get cut again. Kimberly G. charged fairly, but gave me total attention, shampoo, conditioning, all with an offer of a drink, and music overhead that sounded great. And hey, Kimberly G. is very sweet, bright, sharp and a real joy to hang with while she got my hair under control, and looking very good. Even during these challenging times you can find joy! I recently discovered, Stylist, David Bui, at Jackson Place Salon in the Financial District. David can be reached at 415-246-2060. How I found David? I started a search on line and was impressed with David's Bio. David trained at Vidal Sasson in Santa Monica and that got my immediate attention. David listens to your thoughts, concerns and questions. Then works with you using his artistic expertise. I left with a cut that was everything I could ask for, and then some. I have been going to Kimberly G for 5 years now, and she is the best stylist you will ever meet. She is a true artist and will make you look fabulous after every appointment. She has great attention to detail in every single strand that she cuts, or colors. I just went here for the first time and got highlights from Olivier. It was a great experience. Olivier really knows what he is doing. In the past when I have gotten highlights, regardless of how many questions I answered about what color I wanted my hair, I never ended up leaving satisfied. But with Olivier, he asked me one or two questions about what I wanted and I walked out with a better color than I could have imagined or asked for. And the way my hair looked after the blow dry was fantastic, I ended up getting a lot of compliments on my hair after leaving the salon! I have short, fine, straight hair and lots of it. I want to age naturally, so haven't colored my hair although it is going gray. I rely solely on the cut to keep me current-looking. In the UK, I'd had the same hairdresser for about 10 years. She was brilliant. So obviously I was worried that I'd never find anyone as good as her. After all, one's relationship with one's hairdresser is almost a spiritual thing. And then I met Kimberly G. She has made my hair look fabulous - every time I visit. My hair is really thick and it grows very quickly. Kimberly has added layers, giving it body and shine. She's also fun, interesting, professional and a really nice person to boot. My aunt arranged for the members of the wedding party to have hair and nails done at Jackson. Our appointments were staggered...delicious coffee and really yummy pastry from the tiny coffee chateau right outside the salon. Liz did my highlights and the best cut I have had in - years. I have been going to Liz Fracchia at Jackson Place salon since 1996. That kind of customer retention really says volumes, doesn't it? In addition to being a terrific stylist, Liz is a painter who works in oils. She brings an artist's eye to her work in the salon. She has a subtle, magnificent sense of color, shape, and proportion. I got my hair done by Gina Leigh who works out of salon Nuna. And while the salon was lovely I do…read morenot recommend the stylist who works out of Nuna. I had the worst experience I have ever had at a hair salon. I genuinely cannot recommend this salon based on how I was treated. I booked a **partial highlight**, meaning only around the crown of my head would be highlighted. I have long, thick hair, but because I only get partial highlights, this has never been an issue with any stylist I've seen before. From the moment I arrived, Gina was rude and dismissive. As soon as she touched my hair, she laughed and made faces at a coworker in the mirror. She told me I should have informed her that my hair was this long. Feeling uncomfortable, I even asked if she wanted me to leave, and she said no. Trying to make the appointment less awkward, I attempted to make small talk. She told me she didn't want to talk to me and handed me a magazine instead. When I asked, "So you don't want to talk to me during this whole appointment?" she responded, "Honestly, no." We then sat in complete silence for the next hour and a half. The comments only became more insulting from there. While washing my hair, she repeatedly told me how desperately I needed a haircut and made negative remarks about my hair. As she brushed it, she laughed and said she had "never seen someone's hair so matted before." She also commented that whatever "cheap" hair products I was using, I needed to stop. I explained that I was happy to brush my own hair and that my hair only becomes tangled after bleach is applied, which has been my experience after every highlighting appointment. She simply laughed and said, "We can agree to disagree," and continued making comments about my hair, saying she had never seen anyone's hair like mine. At one point, I genuinely asked how long it normally takes her to do her own hair because 2.5 hours felt like a long time for a partial highlight To her. Instead of answering my question professionally, she responded, "We're not all robots, hun." To make matters worse, she then told me that if I wanted my hair blow-dried, I would have to pay extra, even though blow-drying was supposed to be included in the $250 service I booked. She also said, in a confrontational tone, that she only wanted to dry my roots because her job is "actually rewarding, believe it or not." What upset me the most was that I gave her an opportunity at the very beginning of the appointment to decline the service if my hair was more work than she expected. Instead, she chose to proceed while making degrading comments and treating me disrespectfully throughout the appointment. I have been getting my hair highlighted for years and have never experienced anything remotely close to this. Every other stylist I've seen has been kind, professional, and respectful, regardless of my hair length or thickness. This was, without question, the most unprofessional, rude, and childish salon experience I have ever had. I will never return and would not recommend this salon to anyone looking to be treated with basic courtesy and respect.
