Most unprofessional receptionist I have ever encountered in my life. I emailed a request for dental x-rays, no response for a week. I had to follow up and call to find out they actually needed a signature from me. Few days later, they call me to chastise me on not providing a signature(that I wasn't even aware was needed). And on top of it all, when I request for them to send them to my email, the receptionist starts yelling "YOU'LL GET IT WHEN YOU GET IT." I kid you not. read more

"You'll need a crown", they said. "You'll have to wait at least 2 or 3 weeks before any dentist can get it ready", they said. "It's gonna cost at least $1200", they said. Who the hell are "they"? Much to my dismay, I chipped my front tooth pretty good a few weeks ago while having lunch. It was extremely noticeable, unsightly, and annoying. That's when "they" told me how the whole ordeal of getting my tooth fixed was going to play out. Ill admit, i was a little concerned about needing a crown and such, not so much because of the money, but because I'm allergic to pain. Enter DDS Brown. When I called her office and explained my dilemma, she was more than happy to fit me, a new patient, in to her already full schedule. That ALONE was worth the 5 stars. Oooooh, but it gets better. From the moment I walked into her office, I could feel the family vibe. The nurses and receptionists were extremely friendly and funny. While giving them my insurance information and listening to a funny story from Marsha (one of the receptionists), Dr. Brown walks out and catches me in the middle of a smile.. "Oooooh, yeah, i see it. Yeah its chipped alright. Ok, ill be with you in a little bit." she says. Wow, she's good. I immediately began to feel like she had been my dentist for years! The waiting room was clean and cozy. One of the chairs even had a back massager, which i took full advantage of while waiting. After a 30 minute or so wait (which is perfectly acceptable given the circumstances), I was sitting in the dentist chair. The doc walks in. Doc : "Ok lets have a look at the tooth." Me: *smile* Doc: "Ohhh, that's not so bad. I can fix this up right now. Nurse, give me the gauze." *stuffs my face with cotton* *Buzz, buzz, biiiiiiiizzz, spriiiiiitz, rinse, buzzzzzzzzzzz, biiiizzzzzzzzzz* "Did that hurt? No? Ok, good." *Driiiillll, pad, pad, scrape, scrape, pad, buuuzzzzzzzzzzzz* "You know, this other tooth looks a little rough. Dr. Jacqueline Brown was originally discovered by the iDcard. I went with her because I wanted a set of free teeth whitening tools. So I came to her and at the same time I was looking for a new dentist here in Hawaii. I was nicely greeted by their staff and was educated about the iDcard deal and how it will complement with my insurance. Low and behold, I found myself a new dentist. I was more than taken cared off in one sitting. At the time they didn't accept my HMO insurance but they did not turn me away and gave me a follow up appointment for when my insurance changes to PPO. As soon as I returned, my teeth has been taken care off and before they performed any procedures occur charges, I was informed first. They are very gentle with my gums during cleaning, teeth whitening process, x-rays, etc. Been going to her for a little over a year now and I would highly recommend her and her staff. She is located at the Pan Am building in front of Don Quijote near the Ala Moana Mall. If you don't want to pay for parking, find parking around Don Quijote. Simple walk from the building. read more

I have been going to Dr. Jacqueline Brown for 6 years now, and the experience is always pleasant and quick. Everything done here is done with a smile. I am so surprised that no one has ever written a review for this sweet dentist and her crew. Located in the Pam Am building off Kapiolani, Dr. Browns office doors open to a quaint little waiting room. The receptionist, whose name I am unfortunately misplacing at the moment, is so nice. When you enter into the back of the office space, you find yourself in of course, a dentist chair that probably has a massage pad on it in a little room. I love how in every little room there are pictures on the ceiling, this great, and such an endearing quality to a dentist facility. I am not particularly a fan of going to the dentist (I mean seriously who really is) but going to the dentist is a practical and important part of anyone's health routine and being able to go to one that is as nice and efficient as Dr. Brown and her team makes the task not so bad. I mean afterall if you are going to the dentist for some reason or another, why not go to one that is friendly and highly skilled with an understanding and careful group of hygienists? read more

I know a good dentist when I find one. Dr. Brown and her staff are tops. Their cheerful, considerate manners and competent professional work make your visits as easy as could be. My wife, son, daughter and friends go to Dr. Brown and are all pleased with her services. I recently had some implants done and Dr. Brown did beautiful, fine work and her dental lab's work is excellent. Her hygienists do very nice cleaning and inspections and offer good advice on tooth care and cleaning. Marcia, the receptionist, is very helpful and sharp. The office has aroma therapy in the waiting room and massage cushions in the dental chairs to relax you and make it a pleasurable experience. I love going to Dr Brown's office. Being this was the first dentist I ever been to, Dr Brown and her team took very good care of me... That's until the receptionist Vanessa took over. The first time I met Vanessa I walked in to check in. While standing in front of the window and trying to tell her my name, she quickly shut the window on me. I stood there for a few minutes while she talked on the phone. She later opened the window to tell me that other patients are calling and trying to make payments and thought that was confidential. This happened 3 times before me even saying my name, but thought it was understandable... So, after my appointment, I got my invoice for payments and called during my lunch break at work. Vanessa immediately told me that she with a patient and could not talk on the phone and that she would call me back... She didn't. I called back 3 times that day trying to make payments.. Didn't happen that day... Then made me think, why is that when I was at the office, she closed the Windows on me to accept payments from other patients, and now I'm calling she keeps telling me there's patients in from of her and not closing windows on them? Needless to say, I still gave them a chance after. More recently, I scheduled an appointment and had switched my insurance. I asked her if they took Quest and tried to hand her my quest card for her to check, she immediately smirked and said "that's a medical card" with this attitude of I didn't know what I was doing. I explained that it's also for dental and she interrupted me saying "well we don't take that and they don't cover anything" i was tested that day not to snap back at her! I completed my cleaning and needed a follow up appointment, so I scheduled in advance another one on a Saturday. The week of the appointment, an unexpected scheduling of my husband's work made him unavailable to tend to my children who also plays sports, so I called in Wednesday to reschedule or change the time. Vanessa called me back on Thursday upset that I won't be able to make it and how "inconvenient" it's making her to reschedule my appointment. I explained that there will be no one to pick up my 6 & 9 year old after their games and she replied clicking her tongue "ugh, I know but Dr Brown had such a small business and it's inconveniencing her.." I told her no one's ever made me choose between my kids and my appointment before and hung up... I'm happy to say and I found a great dentist and staff in Kapahulu now and don't have to deal with that unprofessional receptionist who's not happy with her job! read more

Dr Brown was an excellent dentist and cool, but I'm giving this 3 stars and not 5 because of the receptionist Marsha. She was very rude. She didn't provide a prior-to-procedure quote or mention anything about cost and therefore assumed that insurance covered the whole thing. Then I get a bill for $200. I could have been okay with the mistake because everyone makes mistakes and I understand that situations and accidents can arise from time to time. However, when I mentioned this to Marsha (so that she wouldn't repeat the same mistake to some other customer that may be living paycheck to paycheck) she was rude and condescending. She acted like I was dumb and talked to me like a child. I never said anything rude to prompt such behavior. As much as I liked Dr. Brown, I couldn't go back because of Marsha. read more

I had the most terrible experience with the receptionist. First everything seemed ok over the phone until I came to my appointment. The receptionist started asking me several personal questions which was ok until she started making me feel uncomfortable. I have a foreign accent and she was asking why I came to Hawaii and how long I had been here and other usual questions. When she was done interviewing me she announced how lucky I was that I had my Hawai'i drivers license. I filled out all paperwork and proceeded with my appointment. The doctor was a sweetheart and most kind. We agreed I would get x-rays so she could properly evaluate my situation. I suggested that I would want to see the estimates prior to proceeding with the xrays and she agreed. This was my first visit with this doctor and I wasn't sure what they usually charge. I got my estimate and since it was half price than expected, I asked the receptionist to let the doctor know I was ready to do the xrays. The receptionist refused and told me my appointment time was over and it was not possible to do it at that time. I said ok, I could come another time. I asked her to schedule an appointment for my procedure and she replied: "You should ask your husband first. Talk about the finances with him." I was shocked to hear that! But I insisted on scheduling the appointment and she finally did it. She promised to call me back about the xrays. Well, she never did so I called couple times to remind her. When she finally got back to me about the xrays, she said I had to pay out of pocket because I didn't do the xrays the same day. I told her I wanted to do it but she didn't let me! She said it was not her problem. At this point, my patience was running out but I felt my situation was pretty urgent and I really liked the doctor so I decided to just agree with whatever she wanted me to do just to get it over with. That was a week ago. Today, one day prior to my appointment, I got a voicemail from her to call her back. She sounded all happy when I called her back and said: "Because of all of your unreasonable requests, the doctor doesn't feel like she could provide you with the best care and we are canceling all of your appointments immediately." First, I thought she had a wrong number and I asked her if she was sure she was talking to the right person. I'm like the least conflicting, always happy person you will meet, so this was a huge surprise for me. But no, she was serious. At that point I realized that she either: Hates foreigners, because she was making all her weird comments at the beginning. Or screwed up and was afraid that I would complain. She might have told some lies to the doctor or she never even told the doctor and just decided to cancel all of my appointments. Seriously, I have never had such a bad experience in Hawaii before. I would not recommend this office at all, unless you want be at the mercy of an evil crazy receptionist who might decide to just cancel your appointments when she doesn't like you. It was a painful experience and a loss of time and money. read more

My family and I have been Dr. Brown's patients for many years. Although I like Dr. Brown, I will not be returning to her office. Her receptionist, Vanessa, is very unprofessional, rude and arrogant. I went to their office for a regular cleaning on Saturday. Since Vanessa wasn't there, the staff told me they will be sending me an invoice. On Monday morning, I received a phone call from Vanessa at work accusing me of not making payment. Even when I explained to her what happened on Saturday, she continued to be rude and said if I don't make a payment immediately, it will be considered late. My invoice was for $10. I was going to the dentist prior to DR. BROWN whom it was Dr. Maurer who I've been going to since a kid. When he retired DR. BROWN then took over, she seemed nice. Then she brought in this older lady, I needed to get my wisdom's pulled and she had the lady do and oh my goodness she pissed me off I wanted to punch her in the face. She would numb me then walk away and work on another patient, by the time she would come back to me it wore off so she had to numb me again. Then when she pushes to help guided out my tooth she stabs me in the throat. I was in excruciating pain, the damn Dr. the old lady not Dr. brown, tells me that it's OK. The hygienist is comforting me because it hurts and I'm crying . Why would that old lady doctor tell me it's OK, how about she get stabbed in the throat and see if that feels okay. Ever since then I did not go back because I didn't like that old lady. That old lady also cut my mom's mouth. I doubt she's still there. read more

Dr. Brown and her team are by far the most competent and patient-focused dental care practice my wife and I have encountered in over 50 years (and seven countries in which we have lived). There is something contagious about Dr. Brown's passion for her work, no matter how minor the procedure. Her team members are as conscientious, friendly and dedicated as she is. What I personally appreciate is Dr. Brown's "dental intelligence"; her ability to explain in a simplified manner the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases, disorders and conditions. When I was confirmed for my appointment there was a noticeable change, the previous receptionist that I wasn't fond of left and they have a wonderful new front office girl named Laura.
