If I could give this sad store 0 starts I would without hesitation. So first time I went there, I drove 40 minutes with my friend to look for a formal dress. We walked in and we were told to leave the store. Me and my friend are both 18 (LEGAL ADULTS) and apparently you need a parent there to help you? That is beyond me. You need to be at least 21 years of age to just LOOK at the dresses?! That is ridiculous. If I was an independent adult of 20 years of age, with dead parents I would not be allowed to shop there. What in tarnation? First Impression: Confused, Angry. Did not plan on ever going back there... Fast forward a few months later, I'm frantically looking for prom dresses that is a month away. After arguing with her, my mom convinced me to go Jacqueline. We drove 40 minutes yet again to try and find a prom dress. We walk in and immediately see a customer fighting with the manager. The argument was about how her daughter's dress was not altered yet after waiting three weeks. She said she didn't receive a call or anything regarding the inconvenience. Apparently they only have ONE seamstress working for the entire store, and she was sick and that's why her daughter's dress wasn't altered. I felt so bad, she said her daughter's prom was a week away. She was furious. And I would be too. Luckily she got her money back and is going somewhere else to fix it. While my mom and I are waiting to be helped, I read a sign that basically said you are not allowed to look at dresses yourself. Not even browse. Fine, whatever, it is what it is, me and my mom wait for 20 minutes... JUST TO BE HELPED. The manager barely acknowledged us! After complaining, an employee comes over and tells us that we can just go look for now until she's done helping another customer. I vigorously looked for 20 minutes and found about 5 stresses I wanted to try on. We waited for someone to come by and help us, no help came. Another new costumer comes in as we are waiting, she looks around for a couple minutes and then the manager helps her personally! I went up to her and told her we were here first and that we have been waiting and she didn't even look at me and she's like "give me a minute." I was outraged. I was loudly complaining and then I just grabbed the dresses off the racks (which we were scolded for doing) and I went into the dressing room myself and my mom helped me with the zipping. After waiting about an hour, being ignored, we tried on a few dresses and left, without any employees saying a word to us. The employee who said would help us, never even acknowledged us. Apparently it was "really busy" the day I went (as said by the workers) but there was legit 4 customers in the store, including myself. But I still don't understand, the employees don't even do anything, they just zip you up and tell you how it looks on you (which anyone can do). It's not like they can't help two costumers at once. I had a horrible experience. The manager was a carless, irresponsible, woman. I think her name was Kathy or something. I'm just astonished at this store. After so many bad reviews you would think they try to make an improvement, but they don't. And I'll be honest, I'm not the type to complain, I'm really not. But this was ridiculous. I was in awe. Jacqueline brags about the prestiged customer service, but they don't know a thing about customer service. Dresses were okay though. Overall, this was the worst store I've ever been to. When I walked into this store with my friends looking for dresses for our senior prom, I expected to be greeted with eagerness to help us. Instead we walked in, and no one said a word to us, even though I'm positive the ladies at the counter saw us walk in. We started looking at dresses when a young sales girl came up and asked us VERY rudely if we had signed in. We hadn't, and I tried to just laugh about how we hadn't been there before and didn't know we had to do that and the sales girl was just flat out rude. So, we go to sign in and another girl comes over and asks us if we are 21. Obviously not if we are shopping for our senior prom. She then told us we couldn't go in without a parent or guardian over 21. ITS A PROM STORE?! Another older lady then tried to help us out and got us permission to walk around and just LOOK at the dresses. It was nice of her, but disheartening that the younger girls were just plain rude. I honestly felt like it was because we walked in wearing casual clothing. It seems as though the girls there only want to care for the people who are rich. Wow!!! How do I start this review? To start with if you go to this establishment make sure you bring a photo ID since the first question out of the owners mouth is not "how can I help you?" But rather "how old are you?". I took my younger sister there for a prom dress. Was greeted by the owner and after her interrogation of my age which is mid twenties mind you, she proceeded to have us sign in and wait even though no one was ahead of us. We were turned over to a salesgirl who was professional but after trying on several dresses was asked to "go home and think about it" because more customers had arrived. This store and its ownership has no idea of what customer service is or how to achieve it!!! My experience reminds me of the scene in pretty women when poor service costs the the store in a major sale. All I can say is I would never buy a thing from this store given the owners attitude and lack of appreciation. We just found out today from my personal seamstress that my nieces prom gown had evidence of prior work! I will be seeking legal action against this establishment for selling "used" garments. If you are reading this , look at previous reviews.....you'll clearly see that nothing has changed. I wish we read these reviews sooner. Leopards don't change their spots. All we wanted was to look around, after she said walk in's were acceptable. Then she told us they dont specialize in bridesmaids dresses, but we just wanted to look around. Can you give zero stars? That's even more than they deserve. The first time I went in there was several years ago, when I was a size 8, and I was treated like royalty. I bought an absolutely gorgeous gown, and was thrilled with their service. The next time I went there, I had gained quite a bit of weight, and was a size 14. I walked in, and the woman at the desk looked me up and down, and never even said hello. I walked into the showroom area, and was completely ignored by the 2 saleswomen in there. At first, I didn't realize what was happening, but I caught on quickly. They don't like you touching their clothes, so I went over to a rack and started touching every piece. One of the saleswomen came over to me and in a very demeaning way asked what I was looking for, and that she was certain they didn't have anything I would be interested in. I responded that not only was I looking for something for myself, but I was also looking for a dress for my size 2 daughter and my size 6 wife. At that point she changed her tune and said, if I could wait a minute she would get another saleswoman from the back to help me. I smiled, and told her that wouldn't be necessary, and turned around to walk out. On my way out, the woman at the desk asked if she could be of any help. I thanked her and said that if she has offered me help when I first walked in, that she probably could have help me, but at this point, absolutely not. My mother was searching for a dress for my engagement party. She called to ask if they had a brunch-type dress and thr invited her to come in. After she drove over 30 mins to get there, they said some incredibly rude things that I will not repeat here that amounted to disgracing her for being a plus size. My daughter just called me, they were very upset, as they were literally kicked out of the store. They walk in, someone comes up to them and said, "My I help you?" And they say, "No, thanks, we are just looking." And the woman says, "No, you are not. You can only be in here with a parent. You can leave now." And kicks them out. They planned on this excursion, an hour drive from our home, for days, and had looked up this shop online. Only after this phone call did I look up online to call the manager, and I found this "rule" that a parent must accompany a daughter. The woman pulled the girl helping me aside after staring at me for 5 minutes and made her ask how old I was? Why the heck would it matter how old I am? I was there to buy a dress. Went to the Livingston mall prom dress shopping and found dress for daughter #1. Googled this store and hoped we would get lucky. We didn't have an appointment but they were nice to us. We got off to a slow start because my girls prefer plain dresses - no bling, not overly sexy, has to "feel" right. The sales girl tried her best eith all our "requests". All of a sudden she found this stunning dress that we knew was perfect. My daughter put it on. It was her size, fit her almost perfect (too long) and a smile that lit up the room! After surfing the web for a dress for my sons wedding, I found the style and color I was looking for, Jacqueline's came up as one of the authorized sellers for this specific designer. I go to the shop picture in hand, and was told they do not carry that dress, ok-- I ask if they have something similar -- answer "rudely" NO!!! I believe they evaluate a person the second they walk in and if they do not approve, they are downright nasty. They treated my wife with complete disrespect. She was insulted, and there is no reason to be insulted by salesgirls. Within minutes I made it clear that we would never return and would make sure to spread the word. They actually giggled. Our trip to Jacqueline was a miserable nightmare for me and my daughter who was looking for a gown for her senior prom. My daughter wears a plus size, and of course they had nothing in the store in her size or even close. That was not the problem--no stores stock plus sizes, and that is a problem with the whole industry, not this one store. The problem was Jill, the woman who "helped " us. She seemed to know less about the dresses and about options for plus size women than we did,despite the fact that on their website the store claims to have a "plus size princess" focus. Worse, she seemed profoundly uncomfortable helping my daughter, and honestly gave the impression that she couldn't wait for us to give up and get out of there. We told her we wanted an A-line silhouette, yet she kept showing us things in other silhouettes and saying "but that's not an A-line." Several times she said things along the lines of "that line doesn't have anything in *your* size. " By the time we left, I was furious and my daughter was traumatized. When we got home she said that that was probably the closest she would ever come to feeling discriminated against like some people experience every day because of race or religion --in this case because of her size. Jill made what has already been a very disheartening process much, much worse. Shopping for a prom dress should be fun and exciting for all young women, not just those who have a certain body type. Jill, I hope in the future you can learn to treat everyone who walks into your store with respect. You should have made my daughter feel special, and instead you humiliated her and made her feel like giving up on prom altogether. You should be ashamed of yourself. read more

I had checked the dresses on the store's website and wanted to see, for myself, what they had for a big wedding I have this summer. It had its business hours posted for the week and weekends were "by appointment only". That being said, the bride and I had gone in yesterday (Tuesday afternoon) and weren't even allowed to walk passed the front desk "without an appointement". I had said that there was no such "rule" made on the website and she said well you have to wait.. Ok, we waited (our first mistake). After waiting as long as we did, we thought we'd be getting some sort of professional help but instead, we were helped by teenagers who didn't know what they were talking about. The employee gave me a dress to try on which was a size 0 and when I said this isn't my size, I'm a size 6, she said, "oh it's ok, just try it on anyway"....I'm sorry what? When explaining to her what we were looking for, she even admitted she didn't know the difference between any of the dresses. The whole place was rude and unprofessional. This was our second visit to Jacqueline's for prom dresses and I highly recommend this store!! Minimal wait for a stylist even on a busy Sunday, and Eliza was fabulous!! Not pushy, listened to what my daughter had in mind and only showed her those types of dresses. The inventory is fabulous. My daughter had visited another store with a friend, and there was no comparison. Check out their online site as well before you go, you should have an idea of the style you want and what you don't want!! And I wouldn't bring along extra family members, it's not a huge store since there's so much inventory on the floor rather than space for people to "hang out." His was my second time using Jaquelines for a dress this year. My daughter bought a prom dress last month. I was having a custom dress made from a store in Summit for my wedding. Just 2 days before my wedding, I realized the dressmaker was not going to have my wedding dress finished on time. Very discouraged, I went into Jacqueline's and told he sales person my problem of having no dress for a wedding in 2 days. The salesperson showed me 5 dresses and was lucky enough to love the last one shown to me. Jacqueline's said they could have the dress altered and completed the next day. After picking up the dress the next day, I could not have been more appreciative of the help and care the staff put in to save my wedding day. I would highly recommend Jacqueline's. The RUDEST staff I've ever dealt with. This was the 2nd bad experience I've had there in under a year. We went to Jacqueline to get a Mother of the Groom dress for my wedding. I had called the store on Friday to see if I needed an appointment, I was told over the phone by the sales associate that YES I should make one. When we arrived the women behind the desk shrilly said:"WHO made you an appointment, we don't make appointments. Was it Maddy, let me find her." She then told us that because she made the appointment that she would have to help us. Then when we went browsing through the store, the same sales women would call us back to the front and told us we had to wait. Then when we finally got someone to help us, she went to the wrong person! She was the oldest women and moved in reverse! No one helped my future mother in law get in and out of her dress, but they would not allow anyone other than an associate to zip the dresses up. While we were there the staff was rude to many other customers, refusing to help a girl coming in looking for a prom dress because she did not come in with her mother. Prior experience there was not good as well, the alterations department makes promises that they can not keep. My grandmother bought her outfit for my cousin's wedding there last year, they told her they could shorten the pants to her outfit. When the outfit came in, they gave her a very hard time and were extremely rude about it. We knew going in that we were not prepared to buy yesterday and that was why I went. I can't believe how RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL the staff is. There are so many other beautiful dresses in department stores for prom, and for mother of the bride/groom dresses go to the bridal shop. We had kind of an "iffy" experience calling on the phone with questions, but I decided to go ahead in and see what we could find in store, hoping things would improve. Based on the Yelp reviews here I wasn't really looking forward to it. But ... I'm so glad we did. While the person on the phone sounded stressed and wasn't overly helpful, just a few days later in store we were greeted pleasantly at the door by a salesperson who took us directly back to the racks right to the sizes, colors and styles of prom dress my daughter was interested in. (Thank you Tara!) Within an hour she had tried on 6 dresses (which is 6 more than she had tried on in total in any of the 5 other stores we had already been to) and found two great choices to pick from. They even helped us with proper undergarments for the strapless style that she ultimately picked out. The entire process was efficient, but we never felt rushed or ignored. We did go in early on a Friday afternoon so the store was not crowded. Everyone we spoke to was professional, attentive and polite. Having been to other area gown stores already so therefore knowing the prom dress drill, and having read the rules on the website about needing a parent along (even though my daughter is 18) and having the sense to go at a time when the store was not likely to be packed and we could more likely get 1:1 help, probably contributed as well. I don't understand people in the reviews below being shocked that you cannot walk through a store and pick over expensive, fragile, delicate dresses without some sales assistance. The majority of stores I have shopped in over the years have been this way. I appreciated the helpful service that we got and would recommend this store any time. Read through all the reviews, even the "not recommended" ones before deciding to visit this shop. There are a number of positive experiences that seem to have not made the cut. read more

Although I had to rate a star to post a review, I would not have given even that.. I write on behalf of my sister who not only is an honest person, she is always willing to compromise Unfortunately she was not given the opportunity . In prefacing her situation, my sister, whom also is the MOTHER OF THE BRIDE, went into this shop, saw a dress she thought she would love, however they didn't have her size therefore could not try it on. The woman continues to convince my sister it was a perfect dress for her and held up to her body as to think that would be sufficient how it would look. She then told my sister it looked great and would look even better when she had it in her size so convinced her to order it ($1800) and when it came in she could try it on. Well the dress did come in, she did try it on, and she totally hated it on . The woman told her it was her dress now and they could do nothing to accommodate her in any way especially in the short 3-4 weeks prior to the wedding. She was never explained any policies, returns, etc nor were they willing to make her happy knowing how she felt about this dress. I , as a business owner myself would never treat my customers in such an unprofessional manner especially one who is the MOTHER OF THE BRIDE and not feel right having my customer so unhappy in how she looked in that dress. My sister ended up leaving the shop and leaving the dress-therefore does not have possession of it. I hope she disputes these charges , the store loses a lot of business and the owner and saleswoman feel terrible and regret how they treated her. I HOPE ALL WHO READ THIS UNDERSTANDS THEY ARE RUTHLESS BUSINESS OWNERS ONLY AFTER YOUR MONEY AND WILL NOT CARE IF YOU LOOK GREAT OR LIKE HELL IN THEIR DRESSES. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!! My daughters and myself arrived to the store 5 minutes after opening. It was still closed. We waited an additional 15 minutes while the store was vacuumed. All the while, we waited near the glass door. At last the door was unlocked but we were not so much as acknowledged or greeted as we entered the store. At that point I was already prepared to leave but my daughter with cash in hand wanted to stay to get a prom dress. We were finally introduced to our stylist, after two other clients who came in after us, of course. The young lady was sweet but inexperienced. We told her the color scheme and size that we were looking for. She came back with a dress two sizes smaller than what we asked for and no where near the color. I remained patient, asking her to please go back and at the least find something in the size we asked for. She comes back with the same dress that was 2 sizes too small and tells us that the manager said that my daughter should try it on. I once again explained that she wouldn't be trying on a dress that was two sizes too small to begin with. Trying to remain calm, I requested that she be measured. I was told that she would not be measured unless she tried on the dress that was two sizes smaller than what we asked for. Then I was told that we should just order the dress in the size that we wanted, wait until it arrived in 2 weeks and then try it on. Ass backwards could barely describe this experience. Please let me reiterate that the young lady was inexperienced and that management sucked. They claim that their customer service is exceptional. Exceptionally inadequate in fact. We left there feeling as though time and energy had been wasted. I strongly suspect that because we were not the color of their regular clientele, that perhaps they felt that we didn't deserve the same level of service. How sad. Read this post closely...DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE! The short story is that my daughter purchased a prom dress that she loved, but needed alterations. I had to go back and forward with the lady making the alterations about what was possible (she was not the most pleasant woman I've ever met, but I thought okay maybe it's a cultural thing). When I picked up the dress I had to question if any of the ( expensive) alterations were even made to the dress. This resulted in me being treated so nasty and disrespectful and rude to the point I can not convey enough using just words. They have no respect for their customers, at all! Or at least she does not (the other women seemed okay), but I believe the woman I encountered is the owner. She is condescending, rude and snotty. Basically, read the other reviews and her responses (Google reviews) and you will get a sense for the type of person we are dealing with here. There is nothing that can be done to get me to ever spend another dime in this store. My daughter had happily purchased her prom dress here years ago and so I returned again shopping for my son's wedding. Having no real idea of how I wanted to look, I came back several times to try a few different looks. Each time I arrived, the staff was patient and lovely. I especially appreciated the wonderful guidance as to what would be appropriate for the type of event we were having (brunch wedding). I'm now down (after weeks of going everywhere and online) to 2 looks - each quite different - one from this store and one from another store. I'm not certain which one I will end up with but I feel exceptionally confidant that this store would handle the needed fitting beautifully. After 20 min of looking at dresses .l found a dress I liked a lot and told the women helping me ,that I wanted try it on the dress .She then said "you been here for a while and aren't buying a dress today so after this one I can't help you anymore I have other things to do''. I couldn't believe the lady who was helping me .Who by the way didn't bother to ask me my name or tell me hers would say that to a customer !! I told her if you want me to leave the store that's fine you don't have to sugar coat it ,and you definitely don't have to talk to me like that I was going to buy a dress if I liked it enough . I left feeling upset and overwhelmed by the way I was treated I didn't just walk in there to waste any ones time , I drove a hour to go there and find a dress .I felt unwanted the entire time the ladies at the store are mean and stuck up and made my prom dress experience horrible. I just posted on West Orange Moms and was encouraged to repost here. As prom season is upon us, I sent my two girls to Jacqueline's Dress Shop in Livingston with my credit card. They were with 2 other prom girls and 2 boys. They were promptly kicked out of the store. Profiling??? I wasn't sure so I went to the store to discuss. The woman at the register told me their policy is no one under 21 without a parent. I asked where that was posted in the store. It is not (but apparently it is on their website). I asked to speak with the "red haired woman" that kicked the kids out (one of my girls is 18). The red haired woman was in their break room and walked out, saw me and walked back into the break room. I didn't know it at the time, but she saw me and called the police. When the police arrived, I was having a calm discussion about the situation and even the detective was confused as to why the police were called. I can only assume she saw my brown skin and immediately thought she needed police assistance. This before we even spoke one word. I spoke to the owner and he said "you are very reasonable and articulate" (why wouldn't I be) but calling the police was the right thing to do." Really... calling the police. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!! SALES STAFF IS PUSHY!! You have to wait for a sales person to help you. When you get your turn, they are all nice until they decide you need to make a purchase. Then they PRESSURE you with the fact that they are out of time and you have to make a decision. Then they tell you that if you do not get the dress right now, it will be gone the next time you are there. They do not care if you are happy in the dress, they just want to make the sale. When I was not ready to sign the papers, they kept pressuring me instead of making sure we were happy with the dress. Now we have a dress that we ARE NOT HAPPY WITH and cannot return it. This store does not deserve one star. It's unfathomable how they have remained in business this long. The sales associates are exceptionally rude. We were uncomfortable from the time we arrived until the minute we walked out the door (on multiple occasions over a number of years). If it weren't for lack of competition in this area, we surely would not bother patronizing this establishment. The woman who helped us (Kathy) snubbed us after finding out our price range and continued to make distasteful remarks, lending her unwanted and very negative opinions over the course of the shopping trip. Went to look for a prom dress, We waited for at least 30 mins. because you are not allowed to look on your own until a stylist is available. That's fine, but after waiting, my daughter got to try on maybe 4 dresses, but unless you are a size 0 or 2, it's hard to shop there because nothing will fit. So if you are looking for a place where your daughter will feel good trying on a dress, this is not your place. We felt rushed. Prices starts from $300-750. When you find a dress, they will order it for you and be ready to pay in full that day. read more

The staff is SO rude & pushy! The younger women were friendly but the older women were very rude. My assistant made numerous rude remarks to my mother & I, telling us she doesn't want us to waste her time & that she's given me all the dresses she can after only trying on TWO. They're very pushy & don't let you just look. If you want to look on your own, they have to do it for you, or they have to be next to you breathing on your neck, commenting on every dress you touch. Do not go here if you want to stay away from unproffesional, rude staff members. So disappointed! read more
