There was only the receptionist and one accountant working when I stopped by, but they were both very helpful in answering my questions. My preparer was finishing up an appt that had apparently gone long. . Instead of diplomatically explaining to me that he needed to short break and would I mind waiting he didn't speak to me at all and was incredibly irritable/bitchy as he was complaining loudly to no one in particular how the appointment had gone long and stormed to the back of the building. The people he had just finished with, an elderly couple, were still in the building as he was bitching. It was an extraordinarily unprofessional display. I could hear him continue to bitch at the supervisor from what I assume is a break room at the back of the building as I waited in the waiting area at the entrance. The supervisor asked if I'd like to see someone else. At that point I happily agreed with the caveat that the person also have extensive experience. They gave me to an older gentleman who as it turned out has only been preparing taxes for four years. I honestly have never seen someone enter information into a computer more slowly. I wish I had trusted my gut and just left at that point but I stayed. He often needed to read and then reread the options on the screen And then compare those again and again to my information sitting in front of him. I'm talking about where to put very basic information like Social Security income. In addition, he presented himself in such a way that conveyed a lack of confidence in his own ability. I didn't feel comfortable but for some reason I didn't just take my papers back and leave. When he finally entered my very basic information he suggested that I leave my documentation with him so that he could finish it without me sitting there because as he acknowledged he was very slow on the computer. We then went over every single piece of paper I was leaving for him. He called me late in the evening of the day he had told me my taxes would be completed by, and asked me a series of questions. Some of the questions were odd in that the answers were extraordinarily self evident or written on the cover page I had provided. (For example, he listed a series of options for me asking which my health insurance fell in to. My health insurance, as was written on my cover page and was clearly documented on the Social Security form I left with him is Medicare. He wanted to know if my health insurance was from an employer, thru the Affordable Care Act, thru a government program etc. I answered it's Medicare. He again listed the options. Again I said it's Medicare. He asked "So that's a government program?" ). He also told me he needed some documentation that I hadn't provided. Again, we went over every single piece of paper I had left with him and he didn't say a thing abt the documentation he said was missing. While he didn't come out and say it, his voice tone and word choice seemed to have an accusatory tone as if I were trying to withhold documentation in order to get him to file a tax return with inaccurate information. Bottom line: I really wish I had listened to my gut and left. This guy isn't going to prepare my taxes. Ever. Hope he doesn't prepare yours.

Fermann & Company was the worst accountant I've ever had. They did not carry over some capital…read morelosses from the previous year and did not account for the fact that the Commonwealth of KY does not tax interest income on Treasury Savings Bonds. I found this out because I decided on a firm closer to my home and the new accountant found Fermann & Company errors within 5 minutes of looking at their work. The errors they made amounted to $2962.00 in overpayment on state and federal taxes for that one year. I had to refile that year's return paying the new account for that work. I sent a letter after I received my refund to Fermann & Company telling them of the mistake and asking for a refund of their fee for that year. Fermann & Company ignored my letter. This was most upsetting because if I made a mistake in my profession costing someone money, I would do everything to make it right.

They gave excuses , and filed for extension last year and despite having my taxes to them by Feb 28 had 2 excuses and kept insisting Infid not provide what they needed to proceed.
