Holy smokes. This is West Virginia. I was not expecting to find one of the most modern and fancy…read morelibraries I've ever seen! It looks like a classic boring 1900's library from the outside but inside are smooth lines, workstations, subtle lighting and lots of up-to-date bookshelves. Great seating and a friendly library who booked a private study room for me (I learned that it can be done through the website) where I did a couple Zoom calls without disturbing my fellow library patrons. Lots of books, fast wifi and yes, they even have a TOOL library where you cab borrow shovels and rakes and stuff. What? Yes! [Review 19620 overall - 94 in West Virginia - 591 of 2023.]

Any first time visit to a city/town, for me, comes with a few go-to's for seeking out; coffee…read moreshops, book stores, bakeries, and of course the local public library. I know that last one might sound strange, but I promise it's not. That downtown library is likely to be historic and thus you get to observe the area's older architecture. Libraries tend to have an exhibit/area that shares local history. Again a chance to learn more about where you are. And my guilty pleasure, libraries have used books for sell. Like a bookstore, you never know what you'll find and you can support them at the same time. I stumbled upon this one while en route to a cake shop and knew I needed to stop in. The exterior is a beautiful, Roman-sque design and harkens back to when libraries were to place to be admired and revered. As I entered, there was a layout (much needed with three floors to navigate) with the bookstore on the ground level. I found a few books (for literally a total of $5) and was soon back on my cake mission. Were I a resident of the area, this would be a regular spot for me.

I attended Marshall University from 1989-1994. It has changed a lot since I graduated, but what…read morehasn't changed is my love for MU. I studied public relations in the school of journalism. My bachelors degree, persistence, and God's blessings have taken me further than I could have ever imagined! There were a few things that attracted me to Marshall. I liked that I could walk from one end of campus to the other in roughly ten minutes. And my parents lived less than an hours drive from Huntington. And lastly, they offered a tuition discount because my hometown in Kentucky was nearby. I was employed at the book store through the work study program. I could stop in for an hour, go to class and come back and work for a few hours. I loved the flexibility! The two pain points were registering for classes which meant standing in line in the basement and praying the classes I wanted were still open when I got to the front of the line. The other headache was completing the financial aid form and waiting to speak to a counselor. Now, neither is an issue because students can register for classes and fill out the FASFA form online. I've stayed connected to Marshall through volunteering on local alumni boards first in Baltimore, MD and now in Jacksonville, FL. Marshall has and is growing tremendously both the campus and the student body. I still enjoy attending football and basketball games when I'm in town visiting my family. I wouldn't change my college experience for anything! The education and life-long friendships are priceless;)))

I really enjoyed coming to Visit Marshall University with my mom and dad for Green and White Day…read more The students and staff were so nice and greeted my family and i with a smile and asked how we were doing . Then when my family and I took a tour of the campus we had lunch at one of the dining halls which was awesome. After my family and I met Mrs. Bianca who is the Autism Training center coordinator We we're really excited to have the opportunity for me(Brady McPherson) to have the opportunity possibly be a part of the Autism program that Marshall University had to offer. I am also excited because I recently got into Marshall University and am really looking forward to having the opportunity to Study Special Education for 4 years I will be an Incoming Freshman Next year for the Fall 2024-2025 year . Thanks for being awesome Marshall . Sincerely, Brady McPherson
