It's bright silver and really doesn't match the witness descriptions of the alleged Mothman too well but so what? Mothman is so fun and freakishly wild and just about the only thing that puts this sleepy West Virginia town on the map. If you're within twenty or thirty miles and at all susceptible to kitsch how can you not swing by and snap a pic or three and maybe a couple dozen selfies with ol' red eyes here in all his anthropomorphic glory? And not only is your time with the statue free but you might actually make money if you choose to snatch the funds people have stuck into Mothy's bunghole. I don't know the story on that custom and pilfering butt money might be bad luck, though. As much as it pains this Detroiter to admit it I must say the Mothman statue is cooler than the Robocop statue. read more

Love the legend. Loved the statue. Not sure why people are sticking quarters in his backside, but also not sure why the artist made him so thicc if he didn't expect people to do something like this. Lol I love seeing the different depictions of this legend and the shiny metallic vision of this artist is a unique style, but I loved it. I definitely agree with some of the other reviewers that people could be more thoughtful at this attraction . There were a lot of people taking their sweet time and grabbing all over the statue and just kind of hanging out chatting. We personally just waited patiently to take a couple photos, read the plaque and move on, which I feel like most people should know is standard etiquette for something like this. I was traveling down to North Carolina from Ohio. I passed a big green sign that said point Pleasant, West Virginia and went,"hmmmmm I think that's the town that had all the Mothman sightings when the bridge collapsed In the 1960s. I remembered the Mothman movie and also remembered that that movie was not shot in point pleasant so now I was curious... What did point look like? What does the statue look like??? Well, passed the exit unable to see it or stop on my way to North Carolina, but on my way back to Ohio I certainly found time to stop. The exit be fore Point Pleasant i had some weird unexpected instances that caused a delay. I was to arrive around 4 but I arrived in Point Pleasant close to 5 pm. It took a bit to figure out where to go. Point pleasant is NOT big but it was a bit confusing. I arrived to the museum right after the owner locked up and left. But I did see this statue next to the museum. I have to say, I envisioned the statue to be on a round park. It was tucked between two streets. I also didn't expect it be so very, very shiny. I always envisioned the Mothman to be this dark tall creature but this is a very shiny almost new looking statue. It looks like nothing that I envisioned in my imagination to me. The statue looks like if you took the creature from the land of the lost, put them in half a Batman suit, added wings and chicken feet... oh and a hawk beak. I don't know why I didn't expect them to have massive bird feet. The eyes are creepy very red. That said, it was fun to see and wish i saw the museum too read more

I'm still haunted by the silhouette of The Mothman, but I felt less threatened standing around his motionless statue in Point Pleasant. I'm sure this town would be more pleasant without the local conspiracy theories surrounding the beast, but without the history, I reckon this town would have no point. It was interesting to see an array of canned goods outside the statue, and legend has it that the open-world game Fallout 76 is brainwashing young human beings about an upcoming apocalypse. Rubbish. The Mothman's workout routine must be insane. How does he juice up his tanker tush and carve his waffle abs while standing there...dead? Hopefully I can find the answers at the upcoming festival. Recommended. Ok, the US is filled with people, here and there, who claim to have seen UFO's, aliens, and other paranormal phenomena. What's interesting about the Mothman phenomenon is so many people in one small town saw it during a relatively narrow time period in the winter of 1966. Does this bolster the alleged reality of the sightings? Was it mass hypnosis? One of us is trained in ethical hypnosis techniques and we can tell you as a matter of fact, that it is statistically rare to find so many deep sonambules on one spot as to account for this type of phenomenon. Well, we find it interesting. This statute to the Mothman is here for a reason: it represents a composite of what so many people saw back in 1966. It's worth a stop. Pix can be tough to get because of the wires and trees in the background. And an added plus? It's right next to the Mothman museum. Don't dismiss this place as a tourist rip off. It isn't. It's free. Totally worth every cent of the $4 per person admission price to see such relics as 1of 3 paint cans used in the movie that MAY have been touched by Richard Gere."Other treasures include napkin holders & a cake plate purportedly on view in a thrilling diner scene. I almost fainted at the sheer thrill of seeing a Wool serape worn by the hamster lovin' thespian. And the excitement didn't end there! They have comic book covers, art from fantastical local talents & even a REPLICA police officer uniform from the days of the Mothman. Many of the other visitors the day we visited were a sight to behold themselves, only adding to the mystique. I don't know there is any piece of art I've ever wanted to see as badly as this monument to the infamous Mothman of Point Pleasant, WV. I've been interested in the Mothman since I was a child and first read about him in a Disney Adventures magazine. I was terrified and refused to sleep with my windows open for years! As an adult, I have a love, curiosity, and passion for Mothman that knows no bounds. I intentionally stayed in the Lowe Hotel in a room that overlooked the statue and I walked out every few hours to see it. It's gorgeous, mysterious, and truly a landmark for those who enjoy the mysterious side of life. I hoped that perhaps my trip to Point Pleasant as a lifelong lover of the Mothman would lead to some sort of encounter with this being, but no dice this time. I'll be back, Mothman. This is an awesome statue in my opinion, but I am from West Virginia so I may be biased. This statue was put in place to remember the falling of the Silver Bridge between WV and OH. There was a lot of weird happenings concerning the bridge: UFOs, Men in Black, and this mysterious mothman. I know a man that looks like a moth.... someone is drinking some moonshine haha, but this "mothman" has been spotted all over the world before more huge tragedies such as this one. I would encourage anyone to come look at the bridge, the statue, maybe even some of the places he was spotted, it is a good piece of our weird history. The artist that created our mothman statue passed away a short time ago, I hope his statue stands and impresses many more generations to come. read more
