If you know going in that this is a super teeny tiny place without a ton of stuff you will be fine and not disappointed. Don't expect this to be a large museum with tons of amazing items. It is a fun stop while visiting Point Pleasant, especially if you are specifically there for Mothman stuff. The statue is right outside next door so you might as well pay the small admission fee and check it out.

Today we had a wonderful full day plan, that situated around some local sites and activities. We started out with a few local Christmas Bazaars and then went to Point Pleasant, WV to check out the Urban Legion of the Mothman. Kayla Beth Fields and grandkids, Saige & Deacon Hunt, picked me up about 9am. The kids had never heard about the Mothman, so we wanted to share with them the Urban Legion. We went into the Mothman Museum. It cost $4.99 for adults and $1.99 for kids. The kids bought some souvenirs, Deacon a mothman stuffy and Saige got a book about WV Monsters. This was a very good small Museum, and you definitely need to check it out. The Mothman state is FREE to enjoy and take your pics or Mothman selfies!

This place is a hidden gem. So much fun, and my girls loved the whole vibe. We all were moved hearing the stories of the victims. It struck the right note of respectful and quirky.

Garage sale layout of newspapers, books, dramatic film clips, small and large life-size props, and the general expected assortment of conspiracy items both hilarious with the mothman but also very serious on the bridge collapse. Us six guys enjoyed our time maybe slightly more than would have guessed. It is an endearing charm for small town America to exploit any history regardless of the tragic or fake nature for tourism and keeping a bigger dot on the map.

'Couples see man-sized bird...creature...something!' After visiting the Mothman Statue, literally right next to it is the Mothman Museum! At first I thought it was just a gift shop, which was filled to the brim with Mothman and various cryptid of West Virginia ready to be read, seen, worn and bought to your hearts delight. I didn't even notice the musuem until it was pointed out by my wife and of course I had to go in and see. The admission fee is $5 dollars and the musuem, just like the giftshop was filled with so much information. From costumes, newspaper clippings to so much paraphernalia from "The Mothman Prophecies" movie (which I have yet to see!) I felt as if I walked out with more information then I could even possibly remember! Added bonus, if you need a coffee, the shop just right down the street also has Mothman coffee! Clearly Point Pleasant has adopted the cryptid lifestyle and is happy to indulge the curiosity of anyone that comes to visit.

Kitschy but fun! I've wanted to come here for years, and finally was close enough to make the quick drive over. The museum/gift shop is located right next to the mothman statue. The front of the store is a gift shop with miscellaneous mothman-related items and the museum is in the back. Admission was $4.95 each for the "museum" which is fair considering it's a pretty small space. It mostly has newspaper clippings from the original events in the late 60's plus memorabilia from the 2002 Mothman Prophecies movie. I really wasn't expecting much so I had a fun time. We spent maybe 45 mins in the museum, gift shop, and looking at the statue. It didn't seem like there was much else going on in Point Pleasant so I wouldn't expect to spend a ton of time here. If you're within 2 hours or so of this place, I still think it's worth checking out if you're into that sort of thing.

Friendly lady working the entrance desk and souvenir shop. Very informational little museum. It is small, but has a ton of newspaper articles and eye witness accounts to read over. Spent about an hour here reading. Gift shop is great, and they also have a sister store that is fun as well. Love that the whole town is in on it. I want to come back for the Mothman festival. Got lots of souvenirs for family.

The World's Only Mothman Museum located in Point Pleasant, WV is such a gem. Tiny little place packed full of such interesting information. If you are a Mothman fan or an Extraterrestrial fan you'll love this place. It was featured on the Travel Channel a few years ago.

The Mothman Museum was better than expected! On our Fallout76 tour of WV, the Mothman Museum was one of our top places to go to. We arrived about 20 minutes before opening which was the smartest plan! We were able to take pictures of and with the Mothman statue without any crowds as well as walking around the amphitheater next to the Ohio River. Once the Museum opened, we were plenty surprised with the size of the shop and museum! It's was $5/ticket to enter the actual museum and was actually worth it. It was well put together and we learned quite a bit about the bridge collapse and Mothman sightings. The store has quite the selection and we ended up buying more than we planned. I highly recommend getting there before opening because even though our entire visit was maybe 30-45 minutes, it was already busy when we left. There was a long line for the statue and the museum started getting crowded as well...so get there about 20 minutes early to give you enough time to explore (and find up front parking)!

We went for the Mothman black light mini golf and it was soo fun. There was 10 holes and they were all really cool.

So glad we finally stopped here! We've driven through Point Pleasant, WV many times over the course of many years, and had always been curious about the Mothman lore after hearing about it. We finally stopped in the other day, and we had a wonderful time. The museum staff were super nice and informative, and the museum itself was full of fascinating stuff. It seems to take up most of the first floor of an old building and is full of artifacts, photos articles, memorabilia, and informative posters, signage, plaques, etc. There was also a place to sit down and watch a documentary about it all! The store in the front was full of fun stuff ranging from t-shirts to stuffed animals. We also stopped by the Mothman statue outside and got a picture. The town itself was very charming and had plenty of parking, a great place to view the Ohio River, places to eat and shop, plus more. Definitely recommend stopping!!

Located in Point Pleasant West Virginia, a small river town on the Ohio River, is this piece of Americana. Events around this town during the 1960's led locals to believe there was a supernatural creature they named the moth man. There has been a documentary and a movie about this phenomenon. The museum is small and rather home-spun, but a part of what makes this legend memorable and fun. Perhaps you'll want to purchase a moth man tshirt or coffee mug from the gift shop before leaving. A must see if ever in Point Pleasant!! This trip marks my fourth time in the museum, and you can bet I will be back a fifth time in a year or two. It only costs $5, and it houses dozens of newspaper clippings not only about the Mothman but also about the collapse of the Silver Bridge and the mysterious "Men In Black." It is absolutely fascinating to see the tonal shifts in reporting about these events. You can follow through history as locals speculate if the creature is a bird? UFO? sandhill crane? perhaps just a trick of the imagination? I suppose it's up to you to decide! There's also a media viewing room where they showcase a documentary surrounding the Mothman mystery which includes interviews from eyewitness and experts. Really cool to see the actual people involved describe their experience. The museum also focuses on the movie made from the legend: The Mothman Prophecies. There's information about the movie making as well as props from the film. Would recommend to everyone, even if you're not a huge fan of legends and creatures -- the trip might change your mind!

This museum wasn't open when I lived in the area, so I was excited to check it out. We first walked through the section of country music artists from Kentucky. Some popular ones on exhibit included the Judd's, Loretta Lynn and Billy Ray Cyrus. We learned about the early civilization of native Americans in Kentucky. There was a Kentucky clothes exhibit that dated pretty far back and up through the 80's. Then we checked out the basement, which was a total kid's zone. They loved it! There was a McDonald's, an old phone booth, dark tunnels for exploring. They all loved the boat cockpit which included all the controlles. There was a front porch with a swing. A puppet area and even an old piano. I was impressed with the museum. We went in December, and there were lots of beautiful Christmas trees and ginger bread houses on display in the atrium that were created and donated by local businesses. There was an area for the kids to write letters to Santa. This is a perfect place for kids to learn and play. And yes, the adults can learn too;)

What a cool place in the middle of ....Ashland?!?! Not far from WV in Ashland, KY lies this place…read more It is where my children got to be: astronauts, tree huggers, scientists, supermarket clark, bankers, archaeologists, and a McDonald's cashier. By looking through the front window, you would never know that this place has a bottom floor filled with a ton of things that will help a child's mind run wild with creative ideas. Some of the local schools and companies donated towards this project and it is great. My favorite part was the space shuttle area where we could talk into microphones and make our voices sound different. I was talking from the "headquarters" and my children were responding from the space shuttle in space. They loved digging for the dinosaur bones too in the rubber pit (which is very shallow--maybe 4 inches deep). So with every great experience, I like to point out something that needs improvement. For this place, the bathrooms need to be updated/worked on/fixed. In the men's room the toilet was broken (not that I went in there). In the woman's bathroom, 1 stall was out of order and the other toilet leaked from the base when you flushed it. This is gross! On the main floor of the building they had some Christmas trees displayed and well as a gingerbread house contact. Oh, they also have this amazing sound wall where you touch the different shapes in order to make different noises. They also have a country music exhibit. Who knew that my man, Billy Ray, shook his achy breaky heart in this town. same with the Judd's. I wonder if this is where Miley comes to visit too. Anyways, when you have nothing to do when visiting this area...now you do!

It's not flashy, but there's something grounding about standing next to a structure built over 2,000 years ago by the aboriginal people. The steps leading up are wide and gentle, and once you reach the top, you get a surprisingly peaceful view of the neighborhood. It's a quick visit. The mound itself is steeped in mystery and history. Archaeologists found 13 skeletons inside, including a central figure surrounded by others. There's a small park around the mound with interpretive signs that give you just enough context to spark curiosity. Some locals say horse races were once held around it, and there's even talk of burials that might represent alliances between different tribes. It's wild to think about how much has happened on that patch of earth, and how little we still know. The Criel Mound stands to quietly anchor the town. Kids run up the steps, people are walking dogs, and there's me, pausing to read the plaques. There is a sense of reverence here if you feel it. It's not at all a playground.
