If you are anywhere near this area around Fall, then I strongly recommend you check this out. And if you are within a few hours, then it is well worth the drive. Everyone from the top down is very friendly and has the same "we can figure it out as we go" attitude.
We called ahead, which I also recommend, and setup all of our schedule in advance so that we were able to do every event that they have. (Except for the Haunted Trail, which was closed due to heavy rain the days before)
The "Saw Escape Room" was pretty neat. We are Escape Room nerds, so this is actually what brought us here. Highly recommended and kinda creepy.
The "Miner's Revenge" room was a little hokey. The group before us apparently lifted one of the keys to a box inside, so the game master moved things around so that we could work past it. That kind of threw off some other puzzles, and made the whole thing feel unpolished and thrown together. But, I guess it's a new addition anyways, so I'm sure it's a work in progress. (Or I would hope so.)
The Zombie Laser tag, would have been better in a larger group. Again, it was just my wife and I. So, we were a little outnumbered. At times it felt pretty unfair, but one of the staff hopped on our team and helped us out. This part was quite a bit more active than I had anticipated, so I was pretty sweaty afterwards.
The Haunted Ghost Tour was a nice break from the scene, and a welcomed rest after the Zombie Laser Tag. We did this off in the middle, and that was a good idea. It ended up being only me and my wife, but they said it was sporadic. Sometimes it was packed, and other times it was overlooked. This is also a work in progress, and a recent addition. The first few stories I could have done without, they seemed detached and could have happened anywhere. But, the actual local places where you are able to get out and explore and hear the background were pretty neat. They definitely piqued our interest in the Winfield area. More of this kind of stuff would be welcomed.
The main Haunted House, called "Weeping Willow Asylum" (or something like that...) was pretty neat. We have done a few haunted houses, and this one was pretty high on our list. It wasn't super scary, but it was very well put together. Would have been a little better if we had been in smaller groups, but it was getting later in the night and I'm sure they were trying to get everyone who had paid through. That took away from the experience a little, being herded like cattle, but it also added a slaughterhouse feel to it. The main clown with a machete (which you will probably see running around the place beforehand) delivered the energy and feel of the whole place. He was probably mine and my wife's favorite part of the Haunted House.
The rest of the small stuff we did in between our main events. Do them if you have time, but don't miss out on one of the bigger things trying to fit them in. Even though the staff was extremely laid back and all worked together to make sure that nothing overlapped.
Great place, very accommodating staff, and lots of good "people watching" make this venue a must stop on anyone's list that likes this type of stuff. They even had a live band. Just go. You won't regret it. read more
