I asked Jack to re-glue some soles of a really old pair of nike cortez and he did kind of a poor job. I also asked him to fix some leather cracking on the back of one of the heels of the shoes, and he didn't even put leather filler on it, he just painted it over with white paint. the whole glue job was pretty lackluster and uneven, and there's visible excess glue. i even tipped him $5 and the total for the repair was about $50. not impressed or satisfied. read more

I've taken a half-dozen jobs to Jack's and every one has turned out perfectly; resoles on dress, work shoes and moccasins, and recoloring shoes. Two of the more difficult jobs were to resize holsters to provide better protections against slippage. Those required imagination. I'm headed in tomorrow for stretching a pair of driving shoes that I mis-sized. Prices are reasonable, timing is too. -- A very satisfied customer. read more

I e-mailed the e-mail address posted on the door during the COVID closure, and it took a little while, but someone got back to me to let me know they were open, what their temporary hours were, and that they could make the repair. I had included photos of the repair I needed replacing a grommet (right word?) on a jacket sleeve. The repair was done in a minute. I hadn't expected the repair to be done while I waited, and it had been a while since I had been there, so I hadn't remembered that they only take cash and checks. I was a little short on the cash, but they said it was fine and just took what I had. (I'm going to stop in tomorrow to give them the difference.) It was a very small amount to begin with! I've taken all sorts of things there over the years. Shoes and boots to be resoled. Belt holes to be punched. Luggage zippers and straps to be repaired. We're such a throwaway society. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT JACK'S SHOE REPAIR. Jack gets one star but I wish I could rate his business lower. I took a leather jacket in for a small tear repair as well as a pair of suede boots for cleaning. He quoted me a specific amount which was already outrageous as it was but I agreed due to time constraints and he demanded for the services! When I returned he wanted to charge me $20 extra dollars for the horrible service he provided! The leather jacket was sloppy and I could have done a better myself, there's glue visible on my jacket! Jack is an artist and craftsman- in the most true sense of the words. My wife and daughter have taken expensive shoes and boots here, trying to get a bit more life from them. In all cases, they came back looking "new". In my own case, I had a fav pair of dress shoes I wore when visiting my customers. Knowing that I was going to retire within the year, I took them in for a last fix, hoping they'd make it to the end with out me having to shell out big $$ for new ones so close to retirement. I cannot recommend Jack's more highly. Besides the fast and immaculate job they did re-heeling my 20 year old docs in 5 days (for a GONZO CHEAP price mind you), he also tapped down that bitchy nail on the inside of my old boots, put in an heel pad and polished them as well. My only complaint is that my 20 year old boots no longer look like they have seen the damage of 20 year old shows. Just too damn spiffy. Thanks! read more

I give them a 2 just because they are in business. This is not the Jack's shoe repair of years past. The owner takes cash or check, no debit cards. The material used was thinner than what I got in Seattle and the bonding agent used on my roofers sole started to separate after 3 months. Of course I didnt keep the receipt, and at $100 I did not get the quality I've experienced at other shops. I will drive to Seattle to get work done in the future. The owners are great, polite, smile, and helping but the quality for rugged shoes is lacking... I'm sure they're good for casual wear. read more

Jack (I assume that is his name) and his wife are super friendly. If you're polite to them, they will be polite to you. I had some beloved Charles David sandals where the straps were coming out and I was going to cry and it would have been a big mess. Jack looked them over and even pointed out some spots where it looked like the same thing was about to happen. He told me what he would do, which was to take the entire footpiece off and then re-adhere the entire thing down to the wedge heel/sole. And he also threw in that he can't guarantee how long it will last. I completely understand. How can anything like that be guaranteed? He doesn't know how wide my feet are and he doesn't know that I walked like 3 miles in those shoes all over downtown Seattle on uneven pavement and up and down hills. He said he would do his best, and that's all I cared about. I think it was about $12. Fine by me! I'll definitely be back for other shoe problems. read more

I also disagree with the 1 star review. If you are willing to repair your shoe with super glue though, then they obviously don't care about quality shoe repair anyway. My favorite pair of moccasins were pretty beat up, and the sole was greatly hanging from the toe of the shoe. I brought it in, it was $12 upfront, and since he was pretty busy I was told I could pick it up anytime the next day. It feels great on, and looks like new. "Jack" was a nice man, and I appreciated his service. I think it's important to support local businesses and the people who own them. FYI: This place is cash only. I've been here a few times, and the service has always been prompt and professional. The last time was a week or so ago when I needed a pair of dress shoes repaired. He charged six dollars and it took one hour. So, I'm not sure where the previous comment about it being slow and expensive came from. I have a pair of fairly expensive dress shoes that I wear too often for work. I just needed a good shoe shine so took them to Jack, but the heels were also getting worn. It was $31 for the polish and new heels, a fraction of what the shoes cost me so I found that price very reasonable. They take cash or check only, no plastic. Which was fine because I'm one of those old guys who still has a checkbook. Anyway, I was very pleased with the work and the service was done far more quickly than I'd expected. I took a pair of suede shoes in to be dyed. I considered dying them myself, and did research to find out how to do it. Its a tricky process, and so I decided to pay a professional. I wish I had done it myself. It was cheap, but they totally ruined the nap which wouldn't be so bad but its a few weeks later and the dye is fading and it looks horrible. People complaining about the pricing of a craftsman in the field of cobbling clearly don't realize what century they're in. Cobbling is becoming less and less prevalent given the radical shifts in consumer culture that usually buys cheap and then discards the item rather than spending money to fix a zipper, a sole, etc. What that means is in order to utilize these rarer services, they are going to be more expensive comparably than they were when it was out of the question (or merely poor taste/breeding) to simply throw away an item that could be mended. Jack is an exceptional craftsman. I merely sought to fix a zipper on my beloved All Saints boots - yet he went the extra mile and repaired the heel and replaced the sole- and shined them up as though they were brand new. Worth EVERY penny and then some. I'm disgusted by that 'one-star' reviewer. What a moron. This place is brilliant and I recommend Jack to anyone looking for quality repair. read more

I needed to have a pair of boots stretched a bit. After reading several of the reviews I was unsure about taking them to Jack but I was going to Oly to hang out so I figured what the hell. The cost was $25 which I thought was a bit steep for the amount of labor required. I returned to pick them up several days later and I still couldn't get my foot in. He immediately took them back and asked me to come back two hours later. A little improvement, with some working I was able to get my foot in. Several days later they likely needed to be restretched but not worth returning. I would agree that he and his wife are very friendly. English is their second language so make sure you each have a clear understanding of what the expected outcome is. So all in all average but wouldn't return. read more

I recently took in a leather bag that had some scuff marks and also some of the leather grain had come off from a sticker being placed on my bag. Jack and his wife are very friendly, and he said he would try to match the color as best he could. I wrote him a $27 check for the service and walked away really nervous that my bag would turn out worse. A few days later I came to pick it up and my bag is in perfect condition! I wear a size 14-15 shoe. This means that shoes that I really like can be hard to find. I used to lament the inevitable heel wear that would eventually retire my favorites, but no more. I was aware that my wife had taken a few of her favorite pairs of shoes to Jack's to have them repaired. They always looked great when they came home. I didn't give it much thought until she tore up a pair of leather sandals with a complex weave and announced that it "would be no problem for Jack's". I was very skeptical, but the sandals were back a week later, looking like new. I decided I had to give Jack's a try the next time I wore out a sole. I have taken three pairs of shoes to Jack's since then (one pair twice) and have never been disappointed. Quality work done in reasonable time for a reasonable price. What more can I say? I went in with a brand new pair of boots that had a wrinkle in the lining inside. Was hoping to get it flattened out because it rubbed in my toe. I left with gouges on the outside of my new never been worn boots! When I complained the man working said he was trying to help me- ruining my new boots did not help me.
