People are very friendly and the food was great - fried chicken, greens, shrimp and grits, corn - what's not to love? My favorite though is the dessert, specifically the buttermilk pie and the chocolate buttermilk pie. I grew up in the north and had never tasted these dishes before coming here. MMMMMmmmMmm. Loved it. I want more right now. Not a lot of options in this area, so if you're around, why wouldn't you come here?

Michelin rates restaurants by its worthiness to travel a distance to enjoy... two stars indicated good food, worth a detour, 3 stars was exceptional food worth a special trip. I cannot say that the food is exceptional, it is exactly what I expect... good southern fried pork chop, good sides, and good comfort food dessert... I had the Banana Pudding. That would make this a Michelin Two Star raised to a power of 2... one fella drove over 4500 miles for the Buttermilk Pie. I'm already looking forward to my next visit... let's say Dec. 30th.

Slaw seemed like it was something they purchase. Burnt ends were not what I am looking for. Pretty tough, they had good bark, so I was hopeful. As others have mentioned, it's a bit off the beaten path, but certainly a worthwhile stop if you enjoy bbq. This business has more seating/space inside than it looks like it might outside. We arrived and parked near the entrance in the gravel lot. It looked like they were working on a food truck while we were there. Stepping inside, it was dimly lit but clean. There are some nostalgic kids' games on the tables which provided my dad with lots of entertainment (Hungry, Hungry Hippos anyone?). The service was very kind and friendly and took care to ensure we were comfortable. I thought the prices were a touch high but they probably have to be to stay afloat. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with two sides, collard greens and smoked mac and cheese. My parents did the same thing, though I don't remember what their sides were. I thought the barbeque pork was really quite solid. It was a huge portion, so large I ultimately wound up taking the top bun off, spearing hunks of pork and putting sauce on them, then tearing off a hunk of bun rather than eating it as a traditional sandwich. The pork was tender but not mushy, not too fatty, and with a pleasant smoke flavor. The bun was nice and soft too. Definitely recommend the bbq! The sweet and slightly smoky thick bbq sauce was a great accompaniment. I liked the mac and cheese on first bite but as I kept eating it something about the smoke taste just seemed off to me. It became more and more chemical-y and artificial tasting to me, and by the time I was halfway done I was over it. I also was pretty meh on the collard greens, but to be honest I'm not normally a huge fan of them anyway so YMMV. They were a nice texture at least. Overall, solid bbq meat and great service. They're worth a shot if you're in the area.

The restaurant is a nice size, appearing to accommodate any size party with availability at the bar as well. I looked over the menu prior and decided to go with the fried green tomatoes, wedge salad, 6oz filet mignon (medium well) with a loaded baked potato. My meal was good from start to finish. I also decided on the Seven layer chocolate cake (delicious) and to my surprise it was gifted for my birthday. JP and Shakira (spelling, my apologies) took care of us throughout the evening.

I have been there 4 times since it opened a few weeks ago and I have tried everything on their menu with the exception of pulled pork, which I will try when I have occasion for a takeout order. Starting with the meats (of course), the brisket is spot on great, as good as I have had anywhere including Texas. Other local BBQ spots serve leftover brisket and it is terrible. The ribs, my favorite, are perfectly seasoned without taking over and smoked until it pulls cleanly off the bone without falling off. The smoked turkey is also outstanding, smoked beautifully and truly captures what it should, moist and tender. And of course, the Conecuh sausage is true to the brand and cooked properly. They offer a decent selection of sauces that should please almost everyone. The range of sides is generous and offers something for everyone and the bread is premium quality. And don't forget dessert! My favorite is the blueberry fluff. Awesome! Service was good each time even when packed. Do yourself a favor and give them a try.

The restaurant is partial counter service but your food is brought out to you. The staff were friendly and polite. A refillable drink station is offered. Let's face it you go to a barbecue restaurant for the meat and on that the place delivers. The pulled pork plate had a mild smoke taste not overpowering and thank goodness no liquid smoke could be detected. The portions were appropriate. Pricing was a little high for me but myself like many of us are still reeling from Covid spending inflation. It's comparable with other restaurants n the area. I am not a sauce person preferring to enjoy the taste of the smoke and meat but I tried the 4 sauces they offered. The two red sauces left a bitter after toast in my mouth. The "white" sauce reminded me of a thinned out remoulade. The mustard sauce reminded me of a honey mustard base. None of them really excited me but that's a personal choice. The cornbread was the sweet variety and was reasonably moist. The greens were exceptional they had a full taste without the often added overdose of sugar. The Mac n cheese was a bit disappointing. It was runny and the cheese sauce seemed thin. It looked like fresh made and it was early in the day so maybe it just hadn't set up good yet. All in all it was a decent meal for the price and I will probably go back again. The quality of the meat pulled this up from a 3 to a 4 star review.
