My boyfriend and I make it a point to stop by Jack's almost every time we're in the Pittsburgh area. It's the perfect dive bar. The drinks are good, reasonably priced, and the staff is great. -very hospitable and very personable. Plus they let you take part in little crafts on occasion! If you ever do happen to come to Jack's you're doing yourself a huge disservice if you don't have a "Party in You Mouth" shot! read more

This is "the" Southside bar, I remember riding my bike past this place as a kid and it's as busy as it was 15 years ago. I have yet to meet someone who doesn't love this place, think of it as The Cheers or southside. Where no one knows your name, but they are glad your there and want to drink with you. read more

I can't believe this place only has 14 reviews. Jack's defines "Pittsburgh Dive Bar." For reals. Open at 7am. Serves food. Smoking allowed. Reasonable prices. Awesome jukebox. What more do you need? If only it weren't in the South Side. Then again, I guess that's part of it's charm. read more

This is probably the best dive bar in the city! Friendly bar staff great crowd during the day. Amateur hour starts about 8pm read more

I visited Jack's on a particularly busy night. It was shoulder to shoulder everywhere on the Southside that night, which definitely made a difference in the experience. I'll try to keep this in mind when I review Jack's. Jack's has an interesting look. Its a nice little bar with hand written signs on the walls- not cluttered but getting crowded. It's gimmicky but not tacky, which is a hard balance to find. Their drink prices are untouchable, they are seriously sooooooo cheap. Pitchers of shots are like $12. It's ridiculous. We stayed here for about an hour before moving on. I think the smoke and the fact that the pool tables were covered up were the only complaints I noted. All things considered, Jack's is a great place to start the night. On a less crowded night, I can see myself enjoying it a lot more. read more

This is a classic Pittsburgh bar. I have been coming here since I was 21. It has a dive feel with a Juke Box. The bar tenders are friendly and the drinks used to be cheap. I was there a few days ago after not having been in quite some time. The drinks are no longer cheap. The ambiance continues to be that of a great dive bar. For a different twist, get there at 7AM and hang out with the night shift crowd. I used to come here a lot, but while other bars stopped smoking, Jacks continues to allow it. Ventilation is poor. After 15 minutes, you and your clothes will stink. Consider yourself warned! If you can tolerate this, then you will be happy with this bar. read more

Great dive bar, cool atmosphere with Batman grog (amazing), etc... but we went for a quick drink and now 2+ hours we still wreak of cigarettes. This is coming from someone who loves dive bars and all they come with (including the smoke) but this is a new level of stink. If you smoke and/or like the smell of cigarettes I'd highly suggest... otherwise maybe not. read more

This place made me love Pittsburgh. CHEAP food and beer. Nothing fancy, just a fryer behind the bar. Normal bar fare, but fresh and tasty. Nice bartenders helping us find stuff to do in Pitt (we found, we stayed at Jack's). Beer specials and mixed drinks were good as well. A perfect dive! read more

Great place, great atmosphere and bar tenders are super nice! Definitely coming back!

Now, let me start by saying I am not a fan of going to South Side (mainly because I feel really old when I'm down there!), but I really enjoy Jack's. We met friends down here last night (my second visit to this bar) and our service was wonderful. We parked ourselves in the back room and the bartender carded us (yay!), but remembered us from our last visit months ago. I'm sorry, but I cannot remember his name, but he's great! We ordered a couple of beers, and sat at a round table near the window. The prices here are really low, which is shocking, in a pleasantly surprised kinda way. The atmosphere is fun. The drinks are cold. Bartenders are efficient and friendly. read more

Absolutely in love with this place. Discovered it last summer and just remembered this place randomly!! Jacks, I'm coming for you

Always end up at this bar no matter what. So chill and the staff is always awesome to me. Also love their sloppy Joes and Fries.

This place is exactly as advertised- a smokey, dive bar. It is cash only although they do have an ATM. It was primarily guys with very few women. The food and drinks were very reasonably priced. The service was friendly. The back room with the pool tables was open, but just stayed at the bar in the front room area. Our tolerance for smoke is a little low so we just had one and left, but other than the smoke, this would be our kind of place. read more

The drinks are crazy cheap, that's the only thing this place has going for it though. Parking sucks, and if you're not careful cops don't hesitate to tow in the south side. The place is always full of smoke and you will definitely smell like an ashtray after being in there for 10 minutes. Cash only, but there is an ATM inside. read more

i would rate this bar a 0 star but that isn't an option. They have certain dress codes that they don't even know why they have it. Don't know certain dress codes they uphold adversely affect certain ppl for no reason. read more

This bar is a pretty cool place in SS. I like it because it's not the go to bar for frat or college kids which is a plus. On the weekends it does get crowded. The best bartender ever used to work there his name was JT he would make suicide shots he was awesome he knew all kinds of different drink recipes. The decor in the place is cool. Sometimes they give you popcorn if it's not busy usually on the weekdays they will give you a basket of it. The only downside is you can smoke inside. Other than that it's a cool spot! read more

Jack's is the most famous "dive bar" in this part of town. Jacks is frequented by celebrities when they visit Pittsburgh and want a real "southside" experience. The crowd is mostly a crowd of friendly regulars who welcome new comers and Pittsburgh sports fans with open arms. If you go, you have to order a Batman shot read more

They say a no judgement bar but they judge I served 4 years in the Marines but they wouldn't let my buddy in with a. White long V neck. They have an American flag and a no judgement sign in the front but they do judge. Worst experience ever read more

Yep it's a dive bar. Everyone told us we had to go here. It was ok. Just ok. The drinks were strong. The staff was friendly. But it wasn't what we expected or wanted at that moment. read more

I love Jack's. The bartenders really kill it. They make me smile and their drinks are on point

Neon lit bar, inside and out. Split into two sections. One bar in the back where pool tables and jukebox are available; this is the most popular side. Other bar is brighter lit, has a cigarette machine and drinks come with a side of popcorn by default. Icons on the walls mimic demented graffiti style cartoons, often doin something sacrilegious. The main colors you'll find here are pink, green, black and yellow with hints of a navy blue. Beer choices are low and so is the liquor - but you don't come to a bar like this for that kind of quality. You come here for the mood. The crowd in the back bar was very rowdy and blasted top 40 tunes interludes with grunge rock hits. This side is very dark which is great for a single seeking seclusion. Crowd seemed composed of mostly locals and perhaps a couple of adventurous college kids. Bartenders were brief in interaction but very nice, tip them well. I sat alone at one end of the bar and worked on a sketch which seemed to bother no one as it should. Switched to other bar and sat by the cigarette machine. This side is definitely milder, bartender seemed almost jealous of his counterparts on the other side. Continued sketching and drinking a cheap beer with no one to bother me. Watched groups of people come and go, all dressed down by the bouncer. The white noise of the crowd was pleasing and the space available fit just perfectly to this jewel of a dive. Smoking is allowed, you'll need one for a place like this. Caveat: I was there on a Tuesday night. read more

This is the perfect dive bar! They have $1 sloppy joes, great priced drinks & you have to try the pumpkin pie shots...UNBELIEVABLE!!! It is smoke filled with very unusual characters. There were Steelers fans, anarchist and regular joes...a diverse crowd for sure! LOVED IT! They don't take any crap off anyone. I saw the bartender kick out 2 people who were way wasted and being rude...so be nice, but have FUN! read more

What do you do when the Amtrak drops you off really early in the morning and you can't check in to your hotel? Jack's saves the day. Perfect dive bar. My girlfriend and I are from San Francisco, so it is rare that we ever come to Pittsburgh, and when we do, we are just passing through. We've come to this bar very early in the morning, mid-day, and also late night and always had a good time. Reasonable prices, too. read more

i could see why this is a great & popular dive bar, but unfortunately for me and the crew, the bar was too crowded to make our way to order a drink. Also, too smokey to see across. Otherwise, on a slow night, i bet this place would be pretty rad. read more

This is an awesome dive bar. The cab driver who brought us down to East Carson Street recommended it as a "truly Pittsburgh experience". Apparently this is also the oldest bar still operating on East Carson Street. The crowd here is kinda funky in a good way and you can tell this place has been around forever when you walk in. The walls are adorned will all kinds of comical signs that were hand drawn on bright poster boards and are very colorful and flashy. Some of these signs are even used to advertise menu items though I'm not sure i would ever eat here. My favorite thing is that they sell beer cocktails here. What?! The best being the Jack's Twizzle made with Angry Orchard cider and red licorice vodka! Bartenders seemed friendly enough. It was a cool place to hang out if you like neighborhood watering hole type places with a bit of history and flair. read more

This is a pretty unique dive bar and a pittsburgh original. I don't go there much now, but I did have the occassion recently to be there at around 830am on a Saturday. I couldn't believe how many people were there and the mix of the crowd. There were people there my age who had obviously had a long night that turned into an early morning. There were also "grinders" who just got done working at the mill or whatever and were there to have a cold meatloaf sandwich and a beer for breakfast. There was also a guy there who was trying to sell me a pair of his shoes. There can be a lot of meatheads there sometimes late at night, but if you are looking for a good dive bar open 365 days a year I suggest Jack's Rose Bar, especially before 9 AM. read more

Great place for cheap drinks anytime of the day or year... a classic Pittsburgh dive bar !

Eclectic place..cool decor..stopped in at 10 because I had to pee and the place was packed with some rough looking characters who I'm sure were harmless, but usually the only place I see people getting a double jack and coke at 10 is possibly on a beach. It's cash only...be aware of that as it isn't readily visible that's he case and if you ordered and didn't have he cash I'm not sure what would happen to you. read more

Wonderful dive into the south side of Pittsburg. Two drinking, er, seating sections. Two pool tables and a Galaga machine. Score.

A well crafted hole in the wall, it's a average joes type of place, but Bunny the babe bartender we will make you felt right at home. read more

Had a riotous night here last Saturday. Great bartender, cheap drinks (liquor bottles have prices written on them in sharpie- ha! I love it), good music, and a great group of people. My boyfriend and I made friends with two different parties of people. We had plans to go to a fancy cigar bar later that night, but ended up getting too lit up here having a good time. Definitely will be on my list of "best dives in Pittsburgh". read more

Jack's is one of my first memories of Pittsburgh, my mom's as well. So it's a generational bar! Been around forever. Divey and smokey. Pool tables and dart boards adorn the back room. Had fun on Saint Patrick's Day! Lots of drink specials and food specials as well. read more

Solid dive bar. Drinks are cheap, bartenders are friendly, and the food is pretty good for a dive. Get the fried hot dog with chili cheese!

Oh Jacks. The typical dive bar that everyone loves. Is there a bar anywhere in Pittsburgh that's open more days out of the year than this place? Jacks is South Side staple that everyone has to go to at least once in their drinking days. The prices are always good. The only downside is the crappy bathroom situation. Tiny and cramped are an understatement. read more

If you are looking for a dive bar in Pitt, you can't beat it. Anyone who is complaining about this place simply doesn't like this type of bar. But if you do, it can't be beat. Highly recommended read more

Cool side room with an additional bar. A good place in the Southside to just have a drink with some friends.

I loved this bar!! I'm from California and was amazed at pittsburgh's nightlife. Awesome cheap alcohol. Will come here again if I'm ever in Pittsburgh in the future! read more

Good stop on a pub crawl. They offer 10 ounce pours as well as pints and sell 40's to go. Air con works well too.

Jacks is the best! Great, fresh-cut fries and provolone sticks. Place is a great value and always open.

This is your typical dive bar. It was fun tho. It's real cramped, but we were lucky to get a table off to the side. The beer is reasonably priced. read more
