This repair shop is amazing! They were flexible. I was able to drop my car off walk down the street to my office, and pick it up later. They knew exactly what my car needed when I called and told them what I had. They were just as reasonable, but with better customer service, the sum of the really quick places you drive-through. Not that I haven't used those in the past, but the convenience of just dropping it off and having someone that understood what human interaction is was amazing! read more

I always do as much research as possible before using a new business or service, especially when traveling... which is exactly how I found Jacks 66 Auto Repair Service for a friend working in the area. They were so thorough and kind. For the work rendered, I felt that their pricing was more than fair. So my friend needed to use them again for a hesitation happening somewhere in her drivetrain. They found that her transmission was well overdue for a full service, not just a flush. The hesitation vanished. It shifts and accellerates smoothly now. She had taken her car to half a dozen repair shops who weren't able to fix it. The final bill came in well under their quote. They recommended she come back in a couple of months to have it done one more time because it was so dirty, then she should be good for many years. She will most definitely take their advice and bring it back, as well as for any other issue that may arise. After reading great reviews I took my truck to Jack's 66 Auto Repair. I spoke to Steve, the owner now, and made an appointment. First impression was that Steve was very personable and very knowledgeable even on the phone. Second impression was that the after hours drop off was really easy. Steve called me mid afternoon and told me what they had found. The explanation was thorough and made sense. The bad news was that the problem, although something Steve could fix was not something he specialized in. He said he'd show me when I picked up the truck. When I got there Steve took me out to the truck and walked me through the problem. He probably spent 15 minutes with me. On top of that it was obvious that Steve and his people had spent a lot of time on the diagnosis. When I asked how much I owed, Steve said that I didn't owe him anything because he didn't fix the problem. He then went on to tell me who to take the truck to and why he recommended them. Who does that anymore? I cannot offer a higher recommendation. Steve and his crew are super. He has my business from now on. Wow! read more

Early on weekday mornings, you'll find the guys at Jack's counseling distraught and sometimes grieving car owners. Often there is a queue three or four deep, and I've listened as each takes a turn on the bar stool at the counter, and shares his or her sad story of auto misfortune. No matter how hot the weather or busy the schedule, and no matter how impatient the customer with the process of garage triage, he or she gets a listening ear, and a careful explanation of potential problems and options for treatment. During the past week, I've visited three times. Lou got my son's Grand Prix running after a tow for an electrical failure. Todd fixed up my Trailblazer with a new idler pulley assembly and serpentine belt. I also stopped by to see Steve and Lou for advice on an emissions repair and inspection. I've been happy not only with the quality of work, but also the price: upcharge on parts seems modest, and labor charges never seem overbooked. If a part is going to be expensive, they will let you know; if a job will be particularly time-intensive, they will explain why. My first trip to Jack's was for an electrical problem. A previous trip to the dealer had resulted in a $150 partial fix, and recommendation of an expensive new gauge cluster. One hour at Jack's, and the short was tracked down and repaired for one hour labor. It was just a wire pulled free of its contact point in a long harness. That was eight years ago, and I've been going back ever since. Jack was the original owner, and moved the business a short distance to N. Main from its former location actually on the old Route 66 in Edwardsville. Steve bought the place a few years ago, and Lou is his master mechanic right hand man. Best mechanic I've ever had and I recommend them constantly to others. I've been taking my car to Jack's since it was still owned by Jack himself, and they've always treated me fairly. There's a real problem in auto repair with what I call the "female surcharge," and I have never gotten that at Jack's. The owner and staff are very friendly. I've taken my car in twice now (battery replaced and belts replaced) and they did a great job taking care of my car. They were not sneaky about anything (like most mechanics who just wanna rip an unsuspecting female off). Getting your car fixed is expensive but at least these guys don't try to rip you off. This place is a joke, I pulled into the lot to find two employees fighting, one didn't even look old enough to work. When I entered the office one of the employees was staring at a computer and did not even look up to greet me. When I asked if I could get someone to check a leaking tire for me it was as if I asked him for his right arm. This is the best! Jack's was able to diagnose and fix things other shops couldn't figure out. They don't overcharge and service is clearly important to them. One time they even diagnosed a problem for us, knowing that we would be able to fix it ourselves at home, and didn't charge us more than necessary.
