At around 4.30 pm on a January Saturday there were a few customers who seemed happy enough with their tea and cakes. The 'smile and greet' from the serving lady did not happen and she told us the closing time was 4.45 when in fact it was 5 pm.(pic) We wondered why ! We only wanted tea for two and this quickly appeared and we paid the reasonable price of £3. Later another staff member convinced us that they have good allergy policies in place with little risk of cross contamination of food on display. Parking is free and adjacent, easy disabled access, comfy cushioned chairs and everything spotlessly clean with a grade 5 hygiene certificate on display. The rest of this trading complex includes a Food Hall with high priced but apparently good quality items. There is also a garden sales area and a Trading Post both of which are worth a visit. Whilst the menu is limited, this is a great place for lunch or a really gorgeous slice of cake and a coffee. With views out across the farmland and a rustic canteen feel about the place you imagine Hugh Fearlessly-eats-it-all will pop in at any moment! There's a feel good factor about the cafe - I hope they build on this. Nothing pretentious, just local produce cooked well. I would like to see more on thier specials board. The large full English was great, especially the White pudding. More expensive than anywhere else, but value for money becuase it was really quality meat. Only dissapointment was the breakfast comes with a hot drink and when we asked to swap it for a glass of juice, we had to pay about 80p extra..... Hate it when places do that! For mains we ate locally caught crab sandwiches and a jacket potato with tuna mayonnaise - both hearty, filling dishes giving us plenty of energy for the journey home. The decor is slightly bizarre, featuring old cameras and pictures of geese, and when it was only my friend and I in the cafe one felt as though one had to speak rather quietly for fear of disturbing the calm atmosphere! The scones arrived before the tea, and I had time to cut and put jam and cream on 2 scones before it arrived. No apology, just some muttering about bagging their own teabags taking time. Cream tea was excellent, homemade scones with plenty of jam, cream and strawberrys. Would visit again but on a quieter day.
