The owner is judgmental, and negative unless you're stacked with money and look like a model. He doesn't oversee what his trainers are doing. He lets them do whatever want which could be good or bad. His initial comment to me was that "I couldn't afford to have him as a trainer". He apparently knows how much money everyone has based in the car they drive. He had also made comments about my arthritis stating that "it's all in my head". There are other places to spend your money without the owners toxicity. I absolutely love every trainer there. They each have their own style that is dynamic and energetic. The boxing classes are literally kickass! Not your usual whimpy kickboxing class. This is taught by actual boxers! Love them . If your really brave. Hop in the ring. They actually teach you one on one how to box there as well! read more

Since I was younger I was crazy for any kind of sports. But to be honest since I found out about JABS GYM I can only say and as they know I'm obsessed with this gym! This gym is great!!! I love the group classes. The time flies by and it is honestly the best workout. The trainers are motivating and have a tremendous knowledge of the type of sport/workout. They give you feedback on your technique to ensure the correct movements and maximize your benefit. I have been going 2x weekly for a few weeks and notice a significant improvement in my cardio, and general body strength & quickness. I also appreciate the affordability of this gym. One more thing. You can say I'm a workout addict, but every time I've joined a new workout craze, I could never stick to it. I always ended up going back to my regular routine of running and basketball. Not the case here. I can't get enough of boxing and this gym has a lot to do with it. The trainers are all invested in your progress and all the classes have been nothing short of a demanding workout that's fun and upbeat. This workout will kick your ass, but you'll be coming back for more. First class will be confusing with all the boxing lingo and you'll second guess yourself on whether you're able to keep up. It will come to you after a couple of classes, just be patient =). With the first month being $59 for an unlimited month of classes, I don't see why you wouldn't give it a try. What a nice little gym! I have been here a couple of times attending kickboxing classes with Fortune. I've also taken his Boyo classes mostly in the Eastern Market (Detroit) location since that's closer to work. His classes are tough, but they do make you stronger and they're definitely doable even for beginners. He helps you with technique and pushes you even when you think you can't do it. The gym itself is cool, one side is this kickboxing room with lights, mirror and about 15-20 hanging punching bags. The otherside is more so the gym with a boxing rink and a few workout stations/weights. I haven't done a workout in there yet, but I'm sure they're great. His team offers personal training, other classes and even boxing related classes. It's also nice that they offer boxing classes for kids so they can learn the fundamentals of boxing. This place is awesome! They have all kinds of classes and are open a lot of hours for everyone's schedules. I am there five days a week now. I was very nervous when I first started here at Jabs last June and I am very much an introvert. The staff is very friendly and inviting. I promise you, you will get a great workout here and more. Just don't give up. People give up before they can really see the benefits because they really do make you workout here. How else are you going to progress? I took one kickboxing class here. I would describe the vibe as 'Prison Rave'. The scene: You walk into a windowless room (cell). Suddenly the lights go out and black lights appear - obscure hip hop remixes start to blare as you fumble to put on the wraps and gloves the front desk girl handed to you moments earlier. A man starts to speak but they are not words you can comprehend "left jab left jab left jab, hook hook hook hook jab and hook, switch sides jab jab kick hook jab hook jab". Also: his voice is literally auto tuned. This continues for one hour. It will feel like much longer. In summary: I have no idea what happened, I tried to just keep hopping around and flailing my arms. there was a girl near me who appeared to know what she was doing so I attempted to mirror her. I did work up quite a sweat. Never been so happy to see daylight as I was when I walked out. read more

I started going to Jabs early December 2017 and came out with an amazing workout fam! All the trainers at the gym are great at what they do. Not only that, the amount of time each trainer takes to make sure that all students have the right form is truly what attracted me to the gym. I've had Fortune stay after class for 30 minutes to help me out with my form when I had first started taking classes and it was so rewarding. The classes range from Kickboxing (which is more cardio), Round by Round (which allows you to focus on your form - personal favorite), BOYO X (cardio plus yoga to stretch out at the end) and Circuit Boxing. Aside from taking classes, I have also taken a few Personal Training sessions with most of the trainers and I would be lying if I say I wasn't sore for 2-3 days after each session. Kristine (nutritionist) was also able to set me up with a meal plan which is when I started to see the right changes in my body. If you invest a month into this gym and see the results that I have seen, you will never look back! Now, if only there was a Jabs Gym in San Diego...! read more

AMAZING place to work out! After looking into kickboxing as a way to work out, I found Jabs Gym and chose it because to me, it was the best balance of quality and price because it had a great introductory price for unlimited classes per month. Before my first class (I had never done kickboxing before and it had been a shamefully long time since I had worked out), the instructor helped me wrap my hands and told me that, if I got confused, I should look towards the center of the room towards the more experienced people to follow what they're doing. And we were off! And my first class was hell, which is exactly what I needed! Turned out the instructor was Jimmy, notoriously one of the most difficult and demanding trainers at Jabs. Go figure that he led my first workout session in a year and a half. If you're a beginner, I highly recommend going to Fortune's classes first - he teaches the actual technique (what a jab is, how to hook, etc.). Ryan's classes are also fairly doable and simple to follow. ICE and Jimmy are a little more advanced; they S L A Y you but are AMAZING instructors and always encourage you to do your best. I did not know this when I first started so I just went to whoever's class my schedule allowed, which is also completely fine! I was able to grasp the techniques by following the first class. The trainers are also more than willing to help you correct your posture and technique by answering any questions you may have after class. Another thing that really encouraged me to keep going with Jabs even after the introductory price increased to the regular price (which is a little expensive) is the great environment! I feel like no one else in class, despite how advanced they are, are judgmental, which is really important to me when I workout. People are always friendly, supportive, and helpful. All-in-all, a little pricey but SOOOOO worth it with great classes, instructors, members, and environment! read more

This was my first time at Jabs and my first time kickboxing and they provided me with direction how to properly wrap my wrist, punch the bag and proper steps and techniques. I am not a very athletic or active person so i had some difficulty keeping up with the group but they continued to encourage me and let me go at my own pace. Love jabs gym. It's not for someone who isn't serious about getting in shape. The classes are HARD so I have a love/hate relationship. I have never left thinking I had a bad workout. My favorite gym and workout of all time!! I love coming here. I've become stronger leaner and very fit. These guys have become family over the years. Been working out with these instructors since 2011 and love the workout so much I followed them to Jabs when it first opened up. The most fun and kick ass workout I've ever experienced. Very intense kickboxing workout with great music and instruction. What a hype!!! Workouts never feel like a chore at this place. Personal training at Jabs is amazing. You won't find a trainer walking you from one piece of equipment to another. I have trained with them for 7 yrs now and it's all done with loose weights, body resistance, ropes, TRX straps, and one of my faves focus mitts. And if your brave enough go in the boxing ring for a round or two. Definitely not your usual big gym mundane workout. This is what these guys do and they definitely DELIVER!!! read more

I started boxing here a few months ago after I decided not to renew my Title Club membership. The first time I went, I wasn't completely sold, but I decided to give it another try. Since then, I've been hooked. Trainers are amazing and really teach you not only how to box, but the logic behind it. You definitely get your money's worth! Great classes with really motivating instructors! I do kickboxing and circuit training here and both types of classes really push you to limits which is what I look for in a workout. One of my friends recommended that I try Jabs Gym. I love coming here. I've attended the BOYO X and Kickboxing classes with IC E, Fortune and Ryan. I thoroughly enjoy coming here. It's a full-body workout and it's different every time. The instructors are great and are definitely willing to work with and willing to motivate you. The membership fee is a bit expensive but I go so often that I definitely feel that it's worth it.
