While in the area, I was in the mood for coffee and a quick sandwich, so I searched nearby and found Ja-Vahz Cafe. The cafe has convenient parking right out front, making it an easy stop. The ambiance inside was pleasant and welcoming. From the menu, I ordered a black hot coffee and the Breakfast Sandwich with meat. My coffee arrived first, perfectly brewed and served hot, just the way I like it. From my seat, I could see the staff preparing my sandwich fresh and toasting it to perfection. When it arrived, it didn't disappoint. The chicken in the sandwich was flavorful and delicious, and it was served with a side of fresh fruit, which was a nice touch. Both the coffee and the sandwich were excellent, making for a satisfying and wholesome breakfast. Cute little cafe with cafe food. I came here for lunch. The half and half was a great deal. The cup of soup was huge. The wrap was also huge, and it came with a side of fruit. The soup of the day was chicken and sausage. It had ginger in it, which I liked, but I don't know if non-Asians would. I had the curry chicken wrap, which was great. I was pleasantly surprised with the coffee served in this little cafe. The food was decent (I got the eggs and ham platter with Cuban toast) and a macchiato (espresso with very little milk and some foam) which was very good. I find it's very difficult to get decently made coffee drinks in most restaurants (mostly made too milky) but they do a good job here. They have a coffee guide on a black board near the register where they have diagrams with visual descriptions of each of the coffee drinks they serve to show the coffee to milk ratios just in case you're not very familiar with the many varieties of drinks. If you eat inside be ready to leave with a strong smell of food impregnated on your clothes and hair. They don't accept reservations however I called ahead of time and they were kind enough to save a table for our group for Sunday brunch. read more

This long restaurant is tucked into a plaza at the corner of Manhattan and El Prado. It is family run and has a nice eating area inside as well as a full patio deck that is covered for catching the breezes over breakfast on a nice day. The service is friendly and helpful. I placed my order at the counter, paid and took an outside table to enjoy the nice weather. A wonderful throwback to the neighborhood, Mom N' Pop coffee shop and Breakfast hang-out of days gone by. The fact that the food is excellent (Three-meat breakfast burrito) and the coffee is delicious (I had the French Roast Blend) just adds icing on the cake. Sure, when they are packed with customers it takes a little while to get your order, but everything is fresh-made. Nothing is sitting under a heat lamp or waiting to be tossed into a microwave! The owner told me they have been in that location for over 15 years, so obviously, quality counts and they have a loyal customer base.
