I was two months away from going back to work and my baby was completely refusing the bottle. I was panicking, I tried everything I could find in the forums: different times of day, trying while I was home vs. out of the house, different bottles, different approaches. Nothing was consistent, and I was terrified I was just making him hate the bottle even more. That's when we reached out to Julie and honestly it was the best decision. She gave us specific exercises to work on and helped us go slow and rebuild positive associations. She was also just a text away whenever we ran into issues, which made me feel supported and confident that we were doing the right things. I would send her a video if things weren't going well and she would be able to advise on way to tweak to help him accept the bottle. After 3 sessions, baby was finally opening his mouth readily when presented with the bottle, something we never thought possible! Fast forward -- my baby is now 6.5 months old and happily takes five bottles a day at the sitter while still breastfeeding at home. He switches between the two so easily now. I started off struggling so much (at the point of tears), especially with getting a good latch while my son had a significant tongue tie. I was in severe pain while breastfeeding, and I just had so many questions about it in general. In over a decade of using yelp, I've only ever written one other yelp review aside from this one. I cannot express enough how grateful I am to have found Julie on here when looking for support with breastfeeding. Even though I received info from lactation RNs in the hospital, that info was more short term for my daughter's immediate needs (she was born premature) and I felt I needed more help now that she is almost 6 weeks old. It was so easy to schedule an in home visit with Julie, and the "appointment" did not feel like one at all. Julie literally arrived early and stayed for 2.5 hours! She did not rush anything whatsoever and she did not leave until every single one of my questions and concerns were answered and that I felt confident in what she taught me. Honestly I don't know what I would have done without Julie! I had a hard time trying to breastfeed my first and ended up quitting because other lactation consultants I had been to weren't much help. I know when I got pregnant 7 yrs later that I wanted to breastfeed. We had so many hurdles like oral ties and forceful letdown among others and Julie was there for me the whole way. She helped us with the after care of our infants oral tie revisions. I wish I could give Julie 100 stars. She is amazing at what she does and is truly a blessing to women and babies on their breastfeeding journeys. I had a pretty bad breastfeeding experience with my first born which included a week long stay in the ICU because of multiple bouts of mastitis that eventually turned into a ruptured abscess that turned into sepsis...all before my daughter was 5 weeks old. I tried, without much success, to see the lactation folks through Kaiser before and after this ordeal and ultimately gave up on breastfeeding around 3 months and pumping around 6. I had baby number two 5 days ago and met with Julie for a prenatal appointment at 36 weeks and again today for an in-home appointment. When she left I told my husband I wish I could turn back time and have met her before I had my daughter. After our prenatal visit I felt so much more confident that this time around I could actually meet my breastfeeding goals and do it without the excruciating pain I experienced every single feed my first time around. She had me go through my history and everything I remembered about breastfeeding my daughter and took notes the entire time. Based on what I told her she gave me some feedback and immediate suggestions about things to keep an eye out for while in the hospital for this baby's delivery, which ultimately helped me advocate so much better for myself this time around regarding lactation support during my very brief hospital stay. During our in-home appointment today she spent over two hours with us doing everything from checking our little guy's reflexes and doing an oral exam, to helping me with positioning our bodies and fine turning his latch technique. I know this is already long, but I have to give one more testament to how great Julie is. My son had already lost 10% of his body weight by his day 3 check up so the doctor wants us to come back on day 6 (tomorrow) to make sure that weight loss has stopped/reversed...I texted Julie after our day 3 doctor appointment to get some advice from her about his weight gain (as there were still two days until our in home meeting was scheduled), and between her suggestions at my first meeting with her and our text correspondence, we were able to get him back up around half of what he lost in just TWO DAYS!!!! Okay. I could go on about how great she was with my two year old during our in home visit, or how personable and funny and sweet and genuinely kind Julie is, but I'm pretty sure this review is already about to be the longest Yelp review in the history of time. What is there to say about Julie that hasn't already been said... Jeez. This woman was a god send. Period. I was originally referred to a different lactation consultant out in Vista but I was hung out to dry in the middle of a pandemic with a baby who has latch issues, lip and tongue tie, tightness in her neck and jaw and a low supply. I found Julie through a Breastfeeding Support Group on FB and someone posted resources on finding a Lactation Consultant in my area. Although I couldn't use my insurance she is worth every penny. Julie was SUPER supportive and gave me the tools to successfully breastfeed. It was a lot of work but it was well worth it. I had so many moments where I felt like a total failure for not being to do something that is natural but Julie reassured me that I was doing well and that she was proud of me. It was difficult for me to say goodbye to her when we had to move out of state because she had made such an impact in my life. My son was born November 23, 2019. The birth was traumatic and I was provided no lactation care in the hospital. At my well baby appointment my 3 day old was ripped from my arms, a bottle of formula shoved in his mouth, and I was told I was starving him, all by the hospital lactation. I spent the next couple days pumping to get my milk in, and bottle feeding my baby. I was devastated thinking my breastfeeding journey was over. My doula recommended I reach out to Julie. I emailed her on Thanksgiving and she called me soon after. She offered so much help over the phone, including letting me pick up a tube feeder to help me breastfeed, and we set an appointment for her to come to my home Monday. She was incredibly kind and gentle with me and my baby. She was so helpful, and very patient. We had a few meetings and she helped me get back to breastfeeding my baby! She helped diagnose a lip and tongue tie, which was confirmed by a pediatric dentist. After resolving the ties, breastfeeding was pain free. No more formula, pumping, or bottles. Julie has given me so much by helping my baby and I. He is almost a year now and we are still breastfeeding strong! Over the last year I've had a few meetings with her, pre and post Covid. Post Covid my time with her was just as important and helpful, and all health regulations were followed. I've texted her a TON for advice, each time she is so helpful and has the answers/reassurance I need. As well as attended her free breastfeeding support group. I used to go when it was at Buy Buy Baby, and still go now that it is at Harveston. The group she offers is so amazing. Connecting with other moms, talking all things breastfeeding, and doing weighted feeds. It's a place for advice, to cry, to make friends, and just to get out of the house. This review is Long over due but Julie was a lifesaver when it came to breastfeeding my son. For 8 weeks I struggled with painful nursing and could not understand why it hurt SOO much. My son was also constantly choking on my milk ( I was an over supplier with a fast let down) and clicking/slipping on and off while he nursed. He was incredibly fussy nursing on the Left side and sometimes flat out refused to nurse on that side. I was about to give up because I had seen a lactation consultant through my sons pediatrician office. That was not much help, and I even saw an ENT doctor to check for a tongue tie. After a 3 second exam, the ENT doctor told me my son was fine. No one really took it seriously that I was having so many difficulties nursing because my son was gaining weight like a champ. My last ditch effort was calling Julie. Best decision ever! She did a thorough exam on my baby's mouth and immediately found a posterior tongue tie. That explained everything and all the problems. She also did a thorough exam/ patient intake with me where I learned that because I was a big over supplier with a fast let down, my son didn't have to latch properly to get milk. It masked his tongue tie. She recommended I correct his tie and she referred me to a wonderful pediatric dentist in Carlsbad who released the tie. At the same time she referred me to a chiropractor who was great as well and helped adjust my son. That released tension he was having on the side he refused to nurse on. After following her advice with the pediatric dentist, the chiropractor and a follow up session with her, my son nursed just fine on both sides with no issues and no pain! He will be 2 in a couple of months and we are now working on weening. I'm so glad I found Julie and I highly recommend you see her especially if you are having issues like I did. Doctors, ENTs etc over look ties all the time and you really should have your baby assessed by an expert like Julie! read more

Julie is an incredible lactation consultant and such a kind person. As a first time mom, I really had no idea how challenging breastfeeding could be, but I knew I wanted to exclusivity breastfeed my son. Julie saved me from a lot of tears and truthfully, she saved me from giving up on breastfeeding. In the first few weeks of my son's life, I really struggled with getting him to latch on the right side. I was given misinformed guidance by the lactation consultant provided at the hospital and felt like throwing in the towel on breastfeeding due to the latching issues. Those early postpartum days can feel so daunting and overwhelming even without feeding issues, and I probably would have given up on long-term breastfeeding if it wasn't for Julie. She was able to holistically assess what was causing the latching issues and after two sessions, was able to get him to latch and feed on both sides! We are now going six months strong and I plan to breastfeed as long as I can since we have all the right tools. I worked with Julie on my second child and have nothing but positive things to say about her. She completely transformed my breastfeeding journey, and I am truly grateful for her continued support. Going into my second pregnancy, I held defeat and frustration since I was not able to figure out breastfeeding with my first and ended up exclusive pumping for 11 months. I was determined this time around to avoid being attached to a pump, and I wanted to have that beautiful bonding experience that so many of my breastfeeding mama friends would post and share about. I knew my strategy this time was to get an outside lactation consultant even if it wasn't fully covered by insurance, as my experience with the hospital LCs was really discouraging and didn't provide me hope (side note: she provides super bills so that clients can submit for Flexible Spending Account reimbursement). Every other LC I worked with critiqued the size and shape of my nipples, pushed me to get baby to use a bottle to supplement, recommended tube feeding, blamed tongue tie, and promoted the nipple shield. I sure was confused and overwhelmed! A doula recommended Julie and said she always goes above and beyond... boy was she right! Even before my first appointment, Julie was texting and available to me. She gave me guidance about tongue tie and who her go to specialists are. I ultimately decided to get the tongue tie procedure done via the pediatrician, but I was still stuck with weaning off the nipple shield and getting a really good latch as baby's mouth recovered and strengthened. I had an hour appt booked and she certainly didn't let me leave without a solid foundation and game plan for how to get my baby to feed properly. I loved that she wasn't stuck to the clock and gave me the attention and time needed. My baby was also struggling with reflux so she introduced new feeding positions that helped reduce reflux and helped me troubleshoot to comfortable feeding positions (ones that would work at home and not just in a hospital setting or breastfeeding support group). After each appointment, she would send me home with written instructions on what to do, and she even filmed videos so I could remember the advice that was provided. She did thorough exams of baby and gave me exercises that would help strengthen his mouth and body for breastfeeding success. I believe I saw her three times and each week involved new steps forward. At one of the appointments I came in so sleep deprived, stressed, and really down (probably a lot of PPD at play there too), but sweet Julie provided just the encouragement and I left the appointment feeling so well-heard and able to move forward. Her phone was always available to me, so I remember texting her quite a bit to make sure I was understanding everything. I am so grateful to Julie. It is because of her that I have this amazing bonding experience with my baby. I spend nights nursing my little one before bed and reflecting on how my dream came true. My goal forever is to encourage any mama to not give up on feeding. Before working with Julie, I never thought breastfeeding for me would be possible.... Julie is hands down an amazing Lactation Consultant that was instrumental in guiding my breastfeeding journey. I reached out to Julie to help me troubleshoot some feeding and tummy issues my son was experiencing that I thought could be the end of my breastfeeding. Julie did a thorough evaluation of my son and diagnosed him with a lip and tongue tie. Julie was involued every step of the way; pre-revision plan, referral to an amazing provider, post revision evaluation and she also checked in on us thru the whole process. I saw Julie for a total of 4 times over about a month and a half. I just found her from my insurance covered providers page, and I am so happy I did. I visited her for slow weight gain in my 6 month old to explore possible ties, latch or supply issues. My baby refused bottles so this was extremely important to figure out why she wasn't gaining. She was extremely thorough in going over our history of breastfeeding, and observing her latch while feeding. She has a very warm personality and I felt comfortable right away in getting to know her. Over our visits we did come up with a great plan and tried new things each time, and by the end we eventually figured it out and we're on an upward tick of gaining. She also recommended a certain bottle to try that we were eventually able to get baby to take! I'm happy to have found her, and I'm so thankful for all of her support.
