    Take out area

The food here was good. Second time visiting and the bourbon chicken was good. It was not overly salting like many of others. The service was fitting for a traditional Chinese restaurant. They were quick with our take out so could not complain. The interior was nothing to write home about but will be back for a good take out Chinese.

    Pad Thai

Chinese takeout is either hit or miss for me. I am either in love with my meal, or throw half of it away. J-Wok has become our go-to Asian takeout spot and I don't expect that to change anytime soon. Recently, we branched out from our usually sushi order and I go some Pad Thai to go along with it. It tasted fresh, wasn't greasy or overly sauced, and had just the right amount of toppings in it. I almost always add a little chili sauce to my Asian food, and once I did that it was perfect. I will definitely be ordering the Pad Thai again (probably in a few days...) As I mentioned, we usually get sushi when we order out from here. We kept it light this time with just a cali roll and a smoked salmon roll but both were fresh, well made, and held their shape through the "picking up, dipping, and inserting into mouth" motion that sushi requires. We've had a variety of rolls from here and are never disappointed. One of the guests we were with ordered Curry Fried Rice, dumplings (can't remember which ones), and Mongolian beef. All of which I sampled and were wonderful. I think the Curry Fried rice might become a staple for us when we do future ordering. J-Wok does Asian takeout right. Quick, fresh, and reasonably priced. See you there this weekend :)

    Carelesly packed food

Quality of food and service in need of attention! I often hesitate writing critical reviews. The experiences at J Wok, however, have encouraged me to comment on the poor quality of the food and the most unkind service found at the take out venue. For sometime, we have joyed the food, ambiance, and service at Sushi Junkie. From the folks working there, we understood that the same family or group owns J Wok. Under such an impression, we have tried ordering various types of food from J Wok. While ordering online has been fair, once at the venue, the reception, tracking of the order, and getting the food has been consistently not pleasant. We have had a young man and women and a mid-age person tending to our various orders, including Chinese, Korean, and Japanese foods. Invariably, not very kind service. In comparison to other Asian establishments, the packaging of the food seemed carelessly put together. The quality of the food has been consistently poor. Even a simple dish such as fried rice, which we ordered once, was not pleasant to the eye, the condiments were off, and the meet had the consistence of rubber. Well, we thought, as we placed our last order (literally), maybe Chinese or Korean foods are not their things, despite their advertising. We should stick to what we know is good. Lets order take out sushi. Again, the assumption was that the food would be as good as what we have had Shushi Junki. Nope, we were wrong. The picture below, depicts a 60 dollars order (seaweed salad missing). The food lacked presentation, it was packed tightly in one container, the sauce from one item shared with the other items, slivers of discolored fish... enough to say, we decided to take discard the food. I wish I could have something positive to comment on about J Wok. I feel that the businesses need to work on respecting their customers, serving quality of food, and contributing to our community life.

    All the sushi!

We ordered take out from here so my review reflects that! We ordered a bunch of sushi online because it was easy and the perfect excuse to not cook. The online ordering process was very simple to use and told us the wait time of 35 minutes for our order to be ready. Something unique about this place is that they have two menus. One is Chinese inspired and one is Japanese inspired. Both have various options but we wanted sushi so we focused on the Japanese menu. Each roll came with 8 pieces around the $14 range per roll. I had a couple of my girlfriends over and we ordered a bunch of different rolls to try. We got a few sexy mexican rolls, the spicy tuna, and tiffany's roll. We got extra spicy mayo and it was a solid move because the mayo was our favorite part. My sister has had the sexy mexican roll before and I'm so glad she suggested it. It had shrimp tempura, spicy crab, jalapeno, cilantro, and was topped with avocado. The fish was fresh and the jalapeno and cilantro were such a great surprise in the roll; I've never had anything like it! Again, pair this with the spicy mayo and the room will go silent. The sushi had great portions and was very filling. We got an order of edamame and it was still hot when we got it at home. My husband picked our order up for us because he is the sweetest pea in the world. I think our order was ready exactly on time because he picked up rather than us doing delivery. Overall, we were happy with everything and would order again!

Awful food and service. Rude service, bland and sloppily prepared food. Just awful. Food was luke-warm for in-dining service.

I was pleased to find that Happy Chef was partnered with Grubhub on yelp after it was endorsed to…read moreme by Elizabeth C, a new yelper out of Berwyn Illinois, who shared a picture of their shrimp fried rice, eggrolls, and a review. Her endorsement of it in the form of "Generous portions, friendly service, and delicious. The egg rolls, nice and crispy! Veg." was the assurance I needed that I would have a quality experience. Looking through the menu, I took interest in items like the vegetable egg rolls, shrimp fried rice, vegetable fried rice, jumbo shrimp fried rice, vegetable egg foo young, jumbo shrimp egg foo young, shrimp with lobster sauce, shrimp with broccoli, shrimp with mixed vegetables, and fish with mixed vegetables. Out of all that caught my eye on the menu, I ended up ordering their shrimp fried rice which was no surprise because it was what initially caught my eye thanks to Elizabeth C. Whether it be Grubhub or Uber Eats, I love ordering online because it is convenient. Most of the time my orders are completed upon my arrival or near complete. By the time I arrived at Happy Chef my order was ready for pick up behind the counter. Picking up was just confirming my name, and I was well on my way back to my residence. I am grateful to have had a smooth online ordering experience because the likelihood of me ordering online again is very high. For your information, Happy Chef sits along a busy Harlem Ave near the intersection of Roosevelt Rd, which can get very congested throughout the day. The parking space is shared with several other businesses, which can feel tight knit among the presence of other vehicles moving within the space. Keep in mind that you may be subjected to altering your route if you intend on exiting left going towards Roosevelt Rd while leaving. It can be a pain exiting but consider yourselves warned if you are intending on visiting Happy Chef. Now the drive back to my residence in Chicago felt excruciating while driving along Dwight D. Eisenhower Expressway. It was only a 6.6-mile drive where each minute, I was tortured by the smell of my food. The one thing you can never be disappointed with is the portions of Chinese food given. This restaurant was no exception because they sure packed every amount of shrimp fried rice they could inside of that tiny white container. As my mouth salivated in anticipation of my first bite, I nearly forgot to snap pictures to share on yelp, which is the least I could have done to capture that greasy piece of goodness in that tiny white container. I really enjoyed their ever-satisfying shrimp fried rice that I will likely order again from Happy Chef! Oh, yes! Here is a poem for your enjoyment to sum up how I felt after eating. One bite of shrimp fried rice, then two, I loved that savory, salty chew. But now my panties scream in pain, A lacy victim of the grain. The elastic's reached its final tether, We're hanging on by just a feather. That crustacean feast was worth the price, But now I'm paying... in spandex and rice. I had a good ordering experience as I have indicated in this review of Happy Chef. And as it was endorsed to me by Elizabeth C, I share my endorsement of it as well with you all on yelp. There use to be a very nice women that answered the phone who was peppy and welcoming but she went away years ago and the new phone support could care less. The delivery use to be very fast. Like when you hang up the phone they're at the door. Not now. And when you do get the order it's almost always wrong and missing something. When you call back they tell you they'll send it out again but the driver takes his time knowing it's a mistake order. But the biggest problem now is the food quality. It drastically went down. Everything used to be fresh. The meat good cuts. The veggies crisp. And great sauce creations. Now, the opposite. Food is soggy. Over cooked. The fried items like crab Rangoon and egg rolls are twice cooked and mushy. The breaded chicken is 75% breading and no chicken. Like fried dough balls. We liken the food quality to frozen dinners from the grocery store. The last thing to put this over the top and we'll never go back, while we were waiting for our food in store, we noticed two bad, gross things about the kitchen. One, someone cooking was hacking and coughing all over the place. No face mask. No gloves. Two, we watched as one of the cooks took crab rangoons from the counter, red cooked them, then dumped them back in a box. One fell on the floor and they picked it up and put it back in the box! Not sure what happened with this place but sadly it's not what it used to be. We've given them years of support and praise in the past and tried continuing with them even after things went down thinking they would get better again or it was just an off night. But no more.
