I don't want to say my experience was negative but I truly wish it was better than what it was. I got my hair colored and cut and I want to say I loved it but the fact I left the salon covered in hair dye and I mean all over my face and neck and it wasn't brought to my attention or even attempted to be removed. Also I have had my hair dyed plenty of times and I have never had a stylist destroy my clothing. They dye was all over my shirt...I guess it will now be the shirt I wear only to the salon? The color and cut isn't even the reason I only give it 3 stars...I got my eyebrows waxed and there was no pre or post waxing care for my eyebrows as a result a layer of my skin was removed. Attached are pictures of what my skin looked like hours after I had them done and then days after I had them done. I was terrified that my skin was going to scar. I just wish a little more time and care went into the handling of my eyebrows. I did get my toes painted and that was an enjoyable experience. Update: I didn't want to have another bad thing to say but I am highly disappointed with my pedicure. I spoke with the lady doing my nails and told her directly that I was going away for two and a half weeks and would like my nails to last that long...I asked if I could have gel put on my toes she advised me not to do gel...I now know it was because she didn't want to go through the process of putting it on....my pedicure barely lasted a week on my vacation! For $55 it should have lasted at least 3 weeks--I am highly disappointed with my experience this time around. I do not think I'll be rebooking anytime soon. read more

I've had both positive and negative experiences here, so this is a 2 part review. My stars are based on my recent experience. My positive experience is from last month. My bf got us a deep tissue couples massage for my birthday. It was great! Very tranquil atmosphere, kind staff, and quality massage. One thing I will note however is that they ruined the surprise for me by emailing me the appointment confirmation. My boyfriend was trying to keep it a surprise and was pretty upset when I said I knew. He called the spa to give them feedback on that and they said "you should have told us"....not a very good response on their part. A professional spa will ask without being prompted when booking (as Alexander's in Scranton did for my recent visit with them). My negative experience was from a year ago. I'm only listing it because I see some recent reviews echoing my thoughts, so they may not have fully resolved the issues...about a year ago I went for a massage; the staff there was trashy & rude. They were just standing around gossiping about coworkers (a huge pet peeve of mine; completely unprofessional to let customers see that). The massage was ok, but the masseuse was a little stand-offish. On top of that she cut my time short by taking me in late and getting done early (I was done & in the relaxing room in less than 60 min). The atmosphere was kind of bleh...I can't say it was dirty but it didn't seem clean? Kind of outdated. Hard to describe. Great atmosphere and every one was friendly enough, however the prices on their app differ from the prices on the website. I made an online appointment which is great, but I did not receive the correct service. I even had the text confirmation of the service I requested but it was still different. The cashier gave me $5 off which is the price it should've been for what I received any ways. All in all, I was disappointed. Maybe it was just the girl I had, but overall my personal experience was not what I was hoping for. I could've went to a crappy mall location and received a better pedicure. It was not worth the money. Also, the massage chairs for the pedicure were not working either. The massage I received from Mary K was one of the best I have experienced. After my relaxing massage I was led to the quiet room where I was given a heated neck roll and some cucumber water and told to relax for a while. I was going to J Madison for awhile because I felt that the value was better, despite a little less of that "spa" feel. The employees can be loud, and you're kind of left to your own devices. No one is giving you a robe and slipper and you'll need to find your own way to the waiting room, which was always fine to me -- I was there for a massage, not necessarily the pampering before or after. However, I am disappointed to see they've raised their rates again but haven't really matched the service experience to the price. I'll likely be looking for a diff spa or returning to Woodhouse. read more

This place is absolutely fantastic. From the moment you arrive, to the time you leave, the staff makes you feel welcome and relaxed. My wife and I went there for a couples massage, and we each had an incredible masseuse. There's a "quiet room" that you wait in before they take you back, and it certainly served a purpose: you're able to relax straight away! Isn't that why you're at the spa anyway? Let me first start with the good: My masseuse Frankie was phenomenal. I believe she has given me a massage years ago at the Woodhouse...regardless, shes amazing. Very personable and excellent masseuse. The decor is nice and reminds me of being back in the 50's with the old house and antique look. The relaxation room is also very cozy, the chairs are super comfortable. I also like that the waiting room is separate from the relaxation room. Nothing worse than leaving a massage in your robe, while you sit next to a guy in blue jeans. Now the bad...my biggest complaint is how loud the downstairs staff is. When you walk in the door, it isn't calming at all. Not too sound entitled, but when i walk into a spa for a massage, I'm looking to shut out the noise and outside world as soon as i close the door behind me. After you get upstairs it was a bit quieter, however during the massage, several times the downstairs staff would walk people up the steps and continued to be extremely loud. This made me cringe several times throughout my massage. Secondly, my massage was disrupted in the room by a vibrating cell phone. Im not sure if it was my masseuse or the other, since I was in a couples massage. Not to accuse anyone, but I highly doubt it was Frankie, she just seemed too professional. Lastly, putting the change room in the bathroom is gross. My girlfriend and I walked in to change into our robes only to be greeted by a strong smell of the previous guests bathroom break aka #2!!!! I understand you have limited space....but I would say maybe send a staff member in and deodorize before the next guest walks in. Other than that, it still was a nice place and I would be willing to go again, if only to go back to my masseuse. read more

J Madison has the be the best place for everything you need: massage, facial, mani/pedi, they do it all. I have been here numerous times and each time keeps getting better. If you're looking for someone to do an amazing job on your nails request TAMMY. When you leave you will not only have fabulous nails but will be laughing the whole time because she's so funny. For those people who have complained that the nail salon is "too loud and unprofessional" is ridiculous to say. No one is screaming, everyone talks to each other and has a great time. This place looks pretty but the staff is ghetto. They need uniforms of some sort...not Victoria's Secret "PINK" sweats. Also they don't behave professionally. Loud talking. Tammy especially. Discussing business while you're trying to relax and have a pedicure. My pedicure was halted numerous times for staff to discuss one thing or another. My first experience was not so great and the only reason I returned there is because I had a gift certificate I didn't want to let go to waste. I would not recommend them to anyone. Had my first visit to Woodhouse and J. Madison that is next store... and overall my experience was positive. I am by no means a "spa expert" and so take my review for what its worth. I will compare J. Madison to the Woodhouse which is next store. I visited Woodhouse two weeks ago and J. Madison this week, both for a sweetish massage. I'll base my review on the pre-massage and then the actual massage itself. J. Madison vs. Woodhouse pre massage. They both are on busy wyoming ave. Upon entering J. Madison, the two gals at the front desk were pleasant and inviting. Woodhouse was also pleasant but more "business like"...splitting hairs here..the gals at J. Madison were just a bit more outgoing and friendly. Woodhouse waiting area is more "spa like". J. Madison was not bad however I would recommend having relaxing spa music played int he waiting area...to get in a relaxing mood. The street traffic was loud and if there was inviting music being played in the waiting area...it would set the mood. Woodhouse wins in this area...very relaxing area before the actual massage and street traffic could not be heard. After completing a client form at both...I was escorted up stairs. Woodhouse has a better locker area that is separate from the toilet area. J. Madison locker and toilet area is combined into one space. Also, Woodhouse locker felt like it was ready for just me. They had one rope hanging and slippers for a man. J. Madison had 6 or 7 robes hanging all in one area and the one issue is that all the slippers were closed inside the robes. I picked one...opened it up...ladies slippers...chose another...same thing...I ended up putting on what was probably a size 7 ladies slipper because I did not want to open up each robe that was tied closed in order to find a robe that had slippers for a man inside. You could not see that unless you untied each robe. Not a big deal...just an observation that if I owned J. Madison I would make an adjustment with that presentation. Also, Woodhouse had combs and hair gel/moose in the bathroom area. This was very helpful because after a long massage at both places, the therapists at both places did an awesome job on the head/scalp area and my hair that already had gel in it...made it looked like I had serious "bed head"when It was over. Woodhouse must be aware of this and had sterile combs there to use along with hair moose to fix the hair... If I was heading back to the office after J. Madison, it would have been an issue as I had no way of fixing a messy head of hair. That attention to detail by Woodhouse was a nice touch. I would encourage J. Madison to make this very easy fix for the client. One other thing to mention, when I left the locker area to look for the therapist, I stumbled onto a storage room and employee break room since that door was wide open. That room is obviously not for a client to see as it looks like what it is...a storage and or break room. That door should be kept closed...it takes from that relaxing spa atmosphere that I think clients look for. Its like seeing a messy kitchen for a high end restaurant....just don't want to see that and I am sure it was not for me to see....the door was just left wide open. Again, its that attention to detail. Overall...I feel like Woodhouse won the "pre-massage"experience but its not a major issue...just something I think J. Madison should be made aware of. The actual massage: J. Madison vs Woodhouse. First let me say, I think both were really good. I also understand that each therapist has their own technique...like a snowflake...no two are alike. If I had to pick on the actual massage...I am leaning toward J. Madison on this particular day. I had Nichole at Woodhouse and she was really good....I had Jolene at J. Madison and she was really good too...maybe just a tad better. But one MAJOR ISSUE I had with J. Madison is that when the actual massage started...I looked at the clock in the room at it read 9:03...I paid for a 120 min (2hr) and when it was over, the clock was covered by 2 small massage oil bottles...I moved one at it read 11:58. I was cut short exactly 5 min. That was not cool. One thing I liked about J. Madison is that they offed a 2hr massage...Woodhouse offers a 1hr 50 min and for the extra 10 minutes at J. Madison, it only cost $10 more. The main reason why I tried both places out within a week of each other is that I want to find a place that I can join their monthly membership. The other differences I mentioned were not "deal breakers" but being shortchanged 5 min was not cool. And I gave a 55% tip because the actual massage was very good...but getting shortchanged that 5 min makes me want to think twice about starting a monthly membership. read more

My daughter was seeing a dermatologist for some acne, or what I thought was acne, but was just simply blocked pores. She was given an AMAZING facial which showed results immediately! I am now using products from the spa that the esthetician suggested, and I am seeing results that 3 different topical prescription medications never showed.
