We took our vehicle to the nearest auto repair and they confirmed it was an issue with the alternator and at the current rate, we wouldn't make it back home without repairing it. Although helpful, they unfortunately could not service our vehicle due to being short staffed. Knowing this was an alternator issue we called several other auto repair businesses (including a Honda dealership) and no one had any availability until the following week; it was currently Wednesday. Losing hope and already thinking of alternative ways to get home we called Traverse City Public Service Garage (TCPSG) and they luckily had someone available to re-diagnose and potentially service our vehicle (it was about 1pm at this time). Upon arrival they were able to verify the issue, order the faulty part from one of their local suppliers, have it delivered, and installed it in about 4 hours or so. While there was an element of luck that came into play (available mechanic, supplier with the part, time of day, etc.), the service we received was both friendly and fair all things considered. The good folks at TCPSG got our vehicle back up and running and we ultimately got back home later that evening safely and in one piece. The first person who looked at it thought the AC compressor needed to be replaced to be safe to drive but they had a second person look at it and he was able to offer a quick fix to get us up and going. We were ready to leave it and have it fixed when their AC person was available but they were honest and gave us a better option even though it cost them business. We cannot thank them enough for helping us in a pretty desperate situation.

On July 3, 2023 I took the car to Tuffy in Cadillac Michigan to have the oil checked and they found the oil to be excessive by 1 1/2 quarts. I was told they don't provide quotes unless the vehicle is in the shop by appointment. When I explained that my Jeep was already there, I was still met with a dismissive response. I also asked for a rough estimate on the cost of the parts and was told they couldn't provide any information, only that labor was around $150 per hour. I completely understand that every repair is different and that an exact quote may require an inspection. My disappointment wasn't with their policy, it was with the way I was treated. The interaction felt abrupt, unfriendly, and lacking the customer service I would expect from a business trying to earn a new customer's trust. A little kindness and professionalism go a long way. Even if the answer couldn't change, a more courteous approach would have left a much better impression.
