It all started back in 2011 when on the hunt for a "real job" after graduating college in 2010. After being referred here from a friend, I was blown away by the following things: STAFF: Upon entering their offices (which are on the corner of 5th and Downing), I was greeted by a friendly face who told me how the typical process works in signing up with the agency. Fill out paperwork, enter various resume history into database, meet with a recruiter and wait for the opportunities to come in! After the first half was completed, I met with Karen - the Vice President. She was friendly, intelligent and is well versed in this industry. Karen asked me a few routine questions - career desires, job aspects, and salary before shaking my hand and saying she'd be in touch! COMMUNICATION: After about a week without hearing a word, I followed up with Karen, who promptly returned my email saying she had a potential opportunity for me. Karen and her colleagues constantly reached out to me throughout various job placements to ensure I was happy and offered insight on the job market and potential for growth. She was easily reachable and made the process seamless. She and her team continue to be this way - even know! JOB PLACEMENTS: Such a variety - based on your job history, salary expectations, location and duties! Because I solely wanted my foot in the door, I hopped on every opportunity that came my way - including a product tester! ha! Ultimately, I landed two great jobs, one of which I am still with today! Because the majority of job placements are temp-to-hire, I was able to see if the company was a "good fit" for me, as well as for them, which made for a better experience. Be prepared to spend some time in their office. After submitting all your info to them, you then have to enter it in their archaic system...everything, work experience, references, etc. I thought, well this must mean they are thorough. Then you take the standard Word, Excel and typing tests. Apparently your scores on those tests and past work experience do not factor in to the chance of them arranging work. I scored very well on all three and am far from an entry level employee and I haven't heard a peep from my "recruiter". Total waste of time, try another agency. read more

There's plenty of temp agencies out there that are a waste of time. This one stuck out to me. Like the reviewers before me mentioned, you have to fill out all of your information into an amazingly outdated database. It's a kind of system you would maybe expect in 1990. That's not what stood out to me though. I met with them, discussed some positions that seemed like a good fit for me. The positions weren't available at the time, so I would have to do some waiting. I called back a week later to check in and to express my continued interest in the positions we discussed. The lady was EXTREMELY rude. Telling me how I should not call in to check in and that THEY will let me know if something is available. It's an extremely common practice for potential employees to check in every so often (say once a week). A lot of temp agencies will not keep you in consideration if you don't check in from time to time. I just couldn't believe how rude this lady was because of me following up with them. I just completed my first work assignment from J Kent Staffing. I was referred to them by a friend who had a positive experience. I'm new to the area and have applied to other staffing agencies, but Bailey Toland at this firm got back to me within a week, and within a few days offered me a temporary assignment. The application*, interview and testing only took a couple of hours, I came in on a Tuesday and by the next Monday I was working in the legal department of an established oil & gas firm downtown. The whole process was efficient and, even if it was temporary, I was working at a great place. I did some Googling beforehand and found the pay is comparable to what temps average in the metro area. Until or unless I find a full-time position on my own I'm looking forward to my next assignment with J Kent! *To all the haters complaining about the application system, I read all your nasty reviews beforehand and was prepared for the worst but it did not even take me that long to navigate the screens and complete the application. Maybe do yourself a favor, do some self-evaluating and consider if you're ready or able to do serious temp work if you can't even handle this small part of the process. Sorry for answering negativity with negativity but I had to say something, I do not get people who write ESSAYS ripping apart a place over some little thing. read more

Not recommended. After filling out their applications and giving all of my personal information I can tell you that six months later they never even followed up. The person I spoke to was Lauren who I submitted everything to and created new resume this went on for months and months. As you read through the reviews noticed how many different peoples names help those in need of employment. I take it very seriously when I give information to an out sourced entity. Be warned they were quick to take my information but never even got me any connections. I do not recommend them at all and they better hope they're not using my information to better themselves. read more

I am very, very please with J Kent. I was called for an interview days after submitting my resume. The interview went great - everybody was very kind, accommodating, and professional. My interview was on a Tuesday, and I was offered a 6-8 week assignment that Thursday with a wonderful, family run company. If you have the skills, a good resume, and you present yourself very professionally, there is absolutely no reason that J Kent will jerk you around the way others have suggested. It's in the best interest of the temp agency to place you and have you succeed. Before you listen to the advice of others and ignore this place as a possibility, take it with a grain of salt and keep in mind that some (like me!) have had a very successful experience with J Kent staffing. In a nutshell: J. Kent is a class act, as are the companies they work with. I worked with J.Kent in 2014, and now have a permanent position after my first assignment with an organization I adore. It was invaluable to have the opportunity to temp and get know my employers, and vice versa. Bailey Toland was nothing short of professional, friendly and helpful. I have worked with other major staffing agencies in multiple cities and those guys can't touch J.Kent. J.Kent really cares to have quality temps working with quality companies and organizations. You need to present your best to this agency - they will work hard for you, but you need to prove you are worth the time and standard that they offer. I've been to other agencies that applaud knowing how to file in alphabetical order - not in line with a long-term job I would want. Bailey was a pleasure to work with and always there when I needed her. She maintained clear and consistent communication with myself and the manager at my assignment. When I applied to J. Kent they responded within 2 weeks, and placed me in about a week (what I expected). All the negativity here about the interview and application process... If you can't get past that, then save yourself the trouble and don't temp - flexibility is mandatory. I applied for a job that J Kent posted on indeed on behalf of one of their clients. The job description perfectly fit my skills and experience but the salary was lower than what I was making at that time. I applied for the job anyway and had an interview with Kara at J Kent Staffing. She was very thorough on reviewing my skills and my requirements for salary and other benefits. After the interview, she talked to her client and they wanted to see my resume. She got me an interview with her client (potential employer). After the interview with the potential employer, I received an offer letter. She negotiated my salary for me and the whole process was very seamless and smooth. I was new to Denver and looking for something to fill my time before my real job started. I came across this company- and the reviews didn't lie! They got back to me super quickly and I got an interview so I could get in their system within a few days m. My interview was Thursday and I got my first events that Saturday/Sunday! Their system is super easy to use and they communicate well (but you need to do the same!). It's been great for both temp work and just events on top of my regular job too. Giant nope. Met with Karen, apparently the VP, and after reviewing my resume she enthusiastically said I should have no problem finding the type of jobs I wanted at the salary I wanted. After almost 8 months nothing.... and the only opportunities I was offered from J.Kent were almost half of my salary expectations or daily jobs like bag checking at a concert. I have called and emailed multiple times with no response. I wish temp agencies in Denver actually fought for people looking for jobs but they are just looking out for the companies and themselves. They just want to people to take jobs for the lowest amount possible. FYI J.Kent not all temp agencies work like this, some actually value the employees and fight for higher wages. These other reviews are hilarious, and so true. I thought the computer system was a joke...but alas they are dead serious. The majority of the time in the office is spent writing your life's memoir into that thing. And if you make a mistake or press one wrong button you have start all over again. Karen was nice enough, I did not find her to be condescending at all but nothing ever came of it. I was contacted by dozens of recruiters on LinkedIn and found something pretty easily through them. I responded to their ad for a position with a company for which they were recruiting on Craigslist. The next day they left me a voice-mail asking to call them back, I returned their call an hour later and I was told she was in a meeting, I left her a voice mail, she didn't call back. When I finally did get a hold of her the next day she told me that the position was already filled, or rather the company found a candidate on their own. Then she asked me why I was looking for work. Luckily, I was able to contact the company that was hiring and I was told that the position was, in fact, still open... I found this experience more than a little suspect, and I still don't know why they had called me in the first place. I can't think of a better example of a staffing agency that should no longer be in business. They lie, misrepresent and waste a job-seeker's valuable time. STAY AWAY!!! read more

My recent experience with J Kent Staffing has been great. I would have to agree with Erica M, (the review below) if you have the skills, good experience and present yourself in a professional manner J Kent Staffing will try and find you a position. I can only give a review on my experience which again is very close to Erica M's review. I dealt with Kara, who was/is an absolute pleasure to deal with. I submitted my resume for a position that J Kent Staffing had posted. Within about 5 days (and two days being Saturday and Sunday so technically three days) Kara called me to set up an interview and testing. I met with her the following day and had my interview. Kara is very friendly and easy to talk with. I felt like I was having a conversation with a friend and not just an interview, which was nice and took the edge off. She said that I was a great candidate for that position I applied for and she would be submitting my resume for the company's review. She also mentioned that she would had the Friday and Monday off (my interview with Kara was on Thursday afternoon) but if she heard back from the company about wanting to set up an interview, either someone from the office would call me to set up an interview or she would call me from her personal cell, and listen to my messges in case I didn't recognize the number and let it go to voicemail (which I'm certainly guilty of) :0) I didn't think I would hear back so quickly but on Monday I got a call from Karen Booher, another associate at J Kent Staffing, informing me that their client called back and wanted to interview me. We set up a time and two days later I had my interview. About an hour after my interview Kara called to follow up and ask how the interview had gone. She also said that she would be in touch when she heard something back from the company. Well not long and Kara was calling and offering me a position. I am shocked at how fast and great this experience with J Kent Staffing has been. I had worked with this company in the past. So, on my job hunt I reached out to set an appointment late last week with Karen who I know has been with the company for quite awhile. Long story short, I took time out of my work day to come in and discuss a potential opening and catch up. Roughly 5 minutes into my meeting and she took a phone call, and said I'd have to wait another 10 minutes to continue my conversation. I politely advised that I couldn't stay and ended it. I haven't even received an apology or follow up phone call/e-mail since. This is very unprofessional and just showed me that my time wasn't valuable at all. My overall experience is that you have to be good, to be called back. And, it's all about timing. If you interview for a position that they have an opening for, and you interview well, you'll be called back. On the second go around, I interviewed for a specific role, they had a job opening for that role, I interviewed well, and I got the job. All of the follow-ups were great and professional. They just want to fill their spots in and have no concern about you whatsoever. As soon as I told the lady that I wasn't available right away, she tuned me out.
