I'm not saying this business as a whole is terrible. The secretary, Robin, was extremely friendly and helpful. That's all the good. Now on to the bad.
We signed a lease, with property manager Fred Cummings, on an older house close to Campbell's campus just over 2 years ago. It was certainly not in the greatest shape but we didn't mind because the price was right. We ended up staying nearly two years, and to be honest, I'm not sure why we stayed a day past the final day of our lease. We experienced many problems with the house throughout this two year period, things ranging from as minor as leaky showers, faucets, and toilets to the more major problems such as leaky ceilings and rotted out flooring.
The real problems however came when the property manager ignored maintenance requests. We expected to experience some issues with the house considering its condition, but we shouldn't have had to call 3-4 times to finally get someone to come out and fix a major problem. We had a rotted out hole in the floor of one of our two bathrooms that was so rotted out that you were scared to use it. At one point a mushroom grew out of the floor! Our dishwasher was broken for over a month. We paid our neighbors water since it was a duplex and they couldn't split the lines. We found out Fred was also avoiding fixing leaks on her side which was driving our water bill up to around $120 for nearly a year. After the problems were finally fixed, it dropped $50.
We moved out in early May and I received the security deposit statement today. I contacted Fred as to why there was a cleaning fee taken out. His response: cleaning! We had to clean the fan blades and the blinds. I thoroughly cleaned the blinds and fans before leaving as these were listed on a move-out checklist so I knew this was a lie. But when I told him, this he stated "I don't have time for this. Is that all?" Apparently, from talking to other tenants of Womble, we're not the first to be screwed over on our deposit by Fred. Seem's to me, he takes out what he wants and then makes up a reason for doing so.
I'm done with Womble Realty now and just happy to be out of it. Just wanted to provide fair warning so others don't make the same mistake I did. If you do decide to go with Womble, avoid Fred at all costs. read more
