The OT…read moreand PT people were very nice and provided some helpful tips and procedures for being able to return home and be as independent as possible with your injuries. Some of the people who work here are super cheesy and they are annoying when you are not feeling your best. I was one of the youngest patients here, and some of the CNA's seem to think you might be able to do more than you are supposed to do with your injuries because you "look" healthy and young. The food was ok, and they have a nice service that will enable your family to enjoy lunch or dinner with you for $3.00. My two main complaints are that the entire hospital is extremely warm and uncomfortable, especially when you have to wear a cast or a brace on your torso. This makes it difficult to eat, sleep, rest, or even think. Another serious problem is that when you call for assistance, you may be waiting for 10 minutes to a half hour!! After using the call button, I resorted to calling the hospital on my cell phone from their web page so that I could get some assistance. When you need help to even get to the bathroom, this can be extremely frustrating. While they may be helping someone else who may need more assistance than you at the time, it would be wonderful for there to be several aids available so that patients are not waiting forever for help!

My brothers travel cath bag was left on him for over 24 hrs after arrival. He emptied it himself all over the floor, The nurse cleaned it up with his bedding, left the cath still attached to his leg and him in the clothes which the urine was spilled all over. When I saw him that evening he was wearing the same cath bag, again overfilled and the attending nurse had no idea that he even had a catheter. When She came to empty the bag she looked all around the bed for the bag and exclaimed, "he dosn't have a cath." She had to be told it was still the one attached to his thigh by Tidal Health discharge nurse. Genisis is suppose to be documenting the amount of fluid being discharged and reporting it to the cardiologist. They are not doing this. This is clearly neglect and elderly abuse. There are to many patients to caregivers in this facility. The facility is filthy. The State of Maryland should investigate and shut this place down before more people die/

I am astonished by how poorly run this rehab facility is. I would think if you are an employee…read morehere, you would be competent at your job. However, this is clearly not the case. My grandmother unfortunately ended up in this rehab center during COVID after she had a fall and broke her pelvic bone and wrist. Here are specific issues we experienced. Based on the reviews, I see these things are unfortunately common: 1. Incompetence with providing correct medication to patients: my grandmother was either not given the correct medication or dosage on several occasions while at Genesis. Thankfully, my grandmother is still mentally sharp, and called them out when they either tried giving her medication for things such as heart palpitations (which she doesn't have). They also did not give her the medication her doctor prescribed, even though we confirmed the medications/dosages several times with Dr. Nancy Benjamin Jean-Marie (who I will comment on below regarding my thoughts on her professionalism and capability as an MD). I find it hard to believe that employees at this facility cannot accurately read and comprehend a patient chart, so instead I chalk this up to laziness, incompetence, and lack of sympathy for patients. I am currently pursuing action against these individuals for negligence and putting a patient's health/life at serious risk. There internal compliance department has already been informed of these issues. 2. Communication skills: as COVID has changed the protocol for how families can see their loved ones in facilities such as this one, we relied heavily on communication, either with my grandmother or the nurses/doctors. When calling the nurses station to question the allegations my grandmother had mentioned (wrong medication, wrong dosage, etc.), there was a major lack of empathy along. The nurses at station 5 were always in a hurry to get us off the phone, and sometimes even hung up on us mid conversation. Again, I have several of these conversations noted, and in none of them were we being rude or asking too much of them. We simply wanted to ensure our grandmothers safety and health. However, they were always rude and did not provide information or call us back when requested to do so. Moreover, in conjunction with the above, when we called to confirm that we could bring our grandmother's medication to the facility, I was told that this wouldn't be a problem and we can drop it off. After dropping off the medication with a receptionist (name withheld due to ongoing action being taken), we were assured that the nurses were waiting on this medication and she will receive it. I would love an explanation on how they then misplaced/lost the medication if it was expected? Either there was malicious intent, which I hope there was not, or there is an overall gross incompetence at Genesis. 3. Misplacing/losing items: I have seen past reviews regarding this matter. Clearly, the owner of this facility nor the compliance department is taking action on this, as it continues to happen (and I'm sure will be brought up in future reviews - please take note). Simple things like medication, magazines, and clothing belonging to my grandmother were been 'misplaced' and never found. 4. Food: see other reviews. Also, please refer to this 2019 inspection report: https://www.medicare.gov/nursinghomecompare/InspectionReportDetail.html?ID=215067&SURVEYDATE=10/16/2019&INSPTYPE=STD. You will see poor food quality and lack of licensed individuals to ensure a patient's dietary needs are met were noted in this report. And unfortunately this is still true as of September 2020. 5. In short, as of September 2020, they have had 141 confirmed COVID cases and 19 deaths. 6. Today they wanted me to sign a paper stating I have missed 3 appointments. They say they are not charging me but if I get one more, they will drop me. I told them that is OK, please drop me and I left. I called twice to reschedule because I woke up sick and they consider that a no show because it was the same day, really. The other was my family member was involved in a car accident, and I got the call while in the changing room, so I had to go to the hospital. I would say they are extenuating circumstances, but they're loss of a client.

Now, being an aide myself for 13+ yrs I understand that you get busy and that you don't want other peoples food to get cold, however! It only takes a couple mins to help someone to bed! Every patients needs are different. If she was able to wait I wouldn't have had a problem with the aides response. But she was falling asleep in her wheelchair and was not safe. Thankfully I came in (after my parents had waited 45 mins for assist) and I put her in the bed. Mom was there 2 wks and my sisters and I gave her all of her showers, toileted her, did her oral care, hell, idk what those aides did around there (except pass food trays) but it certainly wasn't patient care! After her being there for a couple days the physical therapist should know how to transfer mom to her bed from a wc, yet I walked in when they were reaching under her arms to lift her and I yelled stop! First of all if someone cannot bear much wt on their legs then you most certainly do not go lifting under their arms! Unless of course you want to take the risk of pulling their arm out of its socket! I asked who they were and what they were doing. I then informed them that she was NOT a two person lift, that her difficulty arises while during her initial standing time. Once up, she was fine! So I told them that I would be putting her into the bed and I proceeded to show them how to do it. My gripe with this is, this person doing her transfer was her PT!! I still am an aide and when I hear someone say they are going to Genesis I encourage them not to! And FYI, when being discharged from a hospital but are not quite ready o all nurses and aide to go home, you DO NOT have to accept where they say they are going to send you!! Do your research, find the right place yourself. When touring a facility watch for how long it takes for them to answer call lights, other pt interaction with staff. The staff were all pleasant, just lazy. To the nurses and c.n.a.,s If you don't like helping others you need to find a new line of work!
