My brother always comes to this salon to get his hair "setup" and by this I mean clean cut. This salon is really unique in that it is like a mom and pop shop and feels very home-y.. At any rate, the wait time is not long at all and walk-ins are more than welcome. On the staff i believe it is the owner and his wife, one is a barber and the other a cosmetologist so they have the best of both worlds going on! Place feels very welcoming . Lots of couches to wait comfortably on . You're able to watch TV while waiting and during your haircut which is nice . When I visited this barbershop, I notice there's only one barber. While it wasn't busy and I didn't wait long during the time I went, this might be a problem if you come in during a busy time . The barber himself was a very nice guy . However, while I was actually getting my hair cut, he was very hard to communicate with. It became a little bit frustrating when he would begin to tell me what he thought would look better and would refuse to listen to my requests . The end result was far from what I was hoping for, but I don't blame it all on him, since we were having a hard time communicating and reach a common ground for what I wanted and what he thought would look good for me . What it comes down to is this . If I listened to him, I probably would've had a decent, 6/10 haircut, not exactly what I was looking for, but it would've been okay . Because I didn't listen to him, and probably tried to do something that he wasn't used to (1 fade on the sides with a slight combover) , I ended up getting a 2/10 haircut . The haircut cost $13 mon-thurs $15 on weekends . If you want a great haircut, and love getting that awesome feeling after a fresh haircut, this isn't the place . I called in at about 3 PM today asking for the hours, and a man answered "can you be here right now?" So I booked it over there in five minutes as the barber was just finishing up a client. I got a medium regulation military cut. He was very precise in his skills and made sure everything looked spot on. I received a very well blended fade and I definitely will be coming back. The price was very cheap (only 10 bucks plus 2 dollars tip) and he guarantees he cuts his clients hair in ten minutes! But don't worry that doesn't mean the quality goes down at all. I would definitely recommend this place to ANYONE looking for a real quality cut at an extremely reasonable price. read more

I've been coming to J Cut for about a year now since discovering this little gem of a place on yelp. Simply put, he's the best barber in Northridge, period. He's a nice guy and very attentive; I only had to explain it once and he instantly understood what style I was going for. The shop itself is also pretty nice too, he has a TV set up so you can watch while you get your hair cut, as well as a PS2 for the kids. At 10 bucks the price is definitely right - just remember to bring cash. On side note - the vacuum hose from the ceiling is such a good idea... Definitely cheap but average haircut. I have to admit my hair is very difficult to cut. I have crazy cowlicks and my hair just goes where it wants to so I'd say 70% of barbers I go to mess up my hair. Unfortunately after getting my haircut here several times, it would always stick up even though I told the barber about my problem hair. If my hair wasn't so problematic to begin with I'd give only one star but like I said most barbers will cut my hair poorly. read more

The only barber I go to, J Cut has the best service in all of Northridge.  You have to specify how you want your haircut when you go, letting him how short you want it cut etc. Best of all, the price is affordable along with relatively prompt service. As you walk in the large LCD is always on sports games. Couches for the wait which is never too long are comfy. He greets you the minute you walk in. Once seated his quick consultation on clipper size and height makes for a quick cut. Accurate, clean, and great value for overall service. Complimentary do it yourself hair wash available if need be. I went expecting a nice cut from a Korean barber. This is one of the places where barber just wants to finish the job in 5 minutes and move on to the next customer. He was annoyed in first 2 minutes when I asked him something specific. He rushed and ignored me throughout the cut. Damnit, it's only a haircut, but life is filled with trifling little pieces which need to be done. Only guy I can trust to cut my hair correctly. One time I went to different barber who messed up my hair super bad then went to the salon to fix it. They said at the salon there's nothing they could do other than shave it all off. Instead went to J Cut and in minutes he fixed it all up exactly how I want it. Guy working there's super nice and offers a great cut at a great price. Also this place is perfect for a haircut on the go.
