Took two pairs of shoes to be resoled a few months ago. The price seemed quite high, but I figured it was because the heels needed to be rebuilt. I was surprised it was going to take 10 days, but okaaaay. All this to lead up to my discovery this morning that the new soles are detaching at the toes on both pair (worn only a half dozen times). Insufficient adhesive? Lack of care in the glueing? I'm not happy that I had to superglue my shoes back together. That's what I pay a cobbler for. It's quite a drive, but I'll go back to Swanson's Shoe Repair in Wallingford next time. read more

Hours are whatever he decides on the day. On a Friday I dropped off an immaculate, never-worn pair of boots to be stretched. I pointed at the front half of the foot of a boot to be clear I wanted the feet stretched not the calf, or the height. I asked, but he didn't want any information about my size or foot measurements, which seemed odd. He wrote a ticket with my name and number but if he made note of the nature of the work to be done, I missed it. He said they would be done the following Monday and his hours were 10:00 to 6:00. I was at the door at 5:53 on Monday, the "OPEN" sign was lit, and the shop was decidedly closed. I went back the next day. I called en route to ask that he not leave early because I would be there at 5:45. He said he closes at 5:00 in Mondays. Great. That was not what he said on Friday. I arrive and he retrieves my boots. It was a little disappointing to see them just on the floor with no attempt to protect anything or keep them clean. I brought them home and tried them on. Honest to god, they feel smaller. I genuinely don't think he did anything at all, except get overspray from another project on some of the leather around the calf. $26.50 with tax wasted, as well as two evenings of after work plans cancelled. I was hoping to find my new place to get shoes and bags fixed but ended up being very disappointed and will never go there again. I dropped off a pair of my daughters Uggs and a leather satchel to both be cleaned and fixed. The price was $79. I picked them both up a week later and I can honestly say he did nothing to either except put a buckle back on which prob took about 5 mins max. There was still reminants of sand and lint in the Uggs and nothing on the suede had been done to the outside, and the satchel still had dust in the corners of the bag so it was clear he didn't even dust this - let alone clean it. Took a pair of boots in here where the sole had peeled off. The charge was minimal- $38, and the work was great. The soles were sown back on and look to be holding. So I took in a different pair of shoes...dress shoes...the soles had cracked and were in need of replacement. I said this when I took the shoes in...the gentleman nodded, charged me $18 and said 'come back in a week'. I picked up the shoes and he had simply sewn the crack in the sole together with thick twine and put some shoe-goo or similar adhesive in the crack to hold it. The shoes remain unusable and the repair was surprisingly poor. Sloppy fraud! First and last time coming here. My mentality is, if you can't do the job right then try to fix it or don't agree to it. This place clearly has no idea what a well job is. SLOPPY is the word to describe this shoe repair. Went in to pick up my mothers shoes that she asked to get fixed. Came in with a ticket number to pick up shoes and first thing the older Asian man working says to me: "which shoes are yours?" I'm sorry what?!! Isn't that the point of the ticket? Not here I guess. Then he finally found the shoes. I paid (only cash here and you won't get a receipt either...seems odd) and got in the car. I took photos for my mother of how sloppy the shoes looked. There was paint all over the back of the heel, space between where he put the new bottom parts on the heels and honestly it looked like a 5 year old fixed it in art project. I also noticed only one ankle strap was replaced. 22 dollars for what exactly did I pay?! I called my mother and she said they AGREED on both ankle straps replaced. So I went back in and guess what, got attitude right away. He said "no no only one ankle strap with this fix for $22.80. Other will cost $8 more". I told the man that my mother who is on the phone currently with me said you both agreed on BOTH. He just looked mad and said "no" again...I told him well you AGREED on BOTH, so why are you making false advertising and sales??? At that point, I swear I thought he was going to throw a shoe at me. He looked mad and kept saying "$8 more". Also note, there was no receipt given to me and nothing on ticket, so they can scam you anytime on what actually was promised. I asked him to fix the shoe, there was spray paint on the back where he "tried" to fix it. He asked me if I could come back tomorrow? Again what??! Tomorrow for you to erase paint on the back of a shoe?? What did I pay for?! Wasted gas coming here literally. Then he grabbed the shoes and fixed it, did not address the issue I mentioned to him about the gap in between the heel topper (see photo). When I got the shoes back, there was still paint, he spent 15 minutes on what back there, I have no idea. But clearly not fixing my shoes. Worst customer service ever and for what I paid, might as well drive to better shops that are not local and that actually RESPECT customers and loyalty. I am local in Edmonds and all about going to local shops, but never again here! What a disappointment. Update: my mother came home and told me her shoes looked completely ruined. The paint he used was the wrong color and the shoes are no good to wear. She drove to the shop and the older Asian man that served me, said he can't do anything about it. She asked him for a receipt since I never got one, and he gave her attitude and said he gave me one. NO YOU DIDN'T! This man called us both liars twice in one day for HIS MISTAKE. This place is a JOKE! Thanks for ruining my mother's shoes and being completely rude and ignorant. Terrible work! Rip-off! Brought my hiking boots in for a sole repair - he said he would stitch and glue it. He simply screwed in three machine screws, and glopped on glue, which disintegrated on the first hike. Charged $40 to put three screws in and cover it up with cheap glue. This service, and the owner who runs it, have been a fixture in Edmonds for nearly 30 years. No fancy, fawning artificial niceness. No expensive settings or clever advertising. Just a local business person who does good work and delivers very good value, locally. I had shoes resoled here after I discovered that Nordstrom no longer repairs the shoes it sells...I was directed instead to a shoe repair service about 20 miles away. Chong at J&J did excellent work at a much more competitive price. He provided me a receipt up front among with a ticket listing the work he would do. This is a cautionary tale. Do not, no matter how convenient it is, take your leather goods to this place. I needed to get my Madewell leather tote cleaned and conditioned. So, I called this place and he quoted me a price of $12 over the phone. I explained that I needed to get it cleaned, and he seemed to understand. I present him with the bag and his quote changed to $19. I mean ok, it was pretty dirty so I agreed. He told me it'd be ready the following week. I asked if he could clean the bag, and he said yes, he could. I come back a week later to pick it up- and it took him awhile to find it. He was looking around on the floor(?) and had me describe what it looked like. So he presents the bag back and it was NOT cleaned. In fact, he spray painted the bag to try to hide the stains, and the paint wasn't the same shade at all! The inside of the bag was filthy, the spray paint splotches were obvious, and the leather straps were still discolored. He then wanted to charge me 16 dollars for this disaster! F that, are you kidding me?! You ruined my 200 dollar bag! I said I'm not paying and left. I am seething and now I'm without a bag. I am NOT happy and they should be paying to replace the bag that they RUINED. read more

I dropped my shoes off on Wednesday and they were ready a week later! I left one Birkenstock sand which was separating and a pair of Frye boots that needed a lot of work on the soles (there were multiple holes). He did an amazing job and gave me the best price in town! $60 for both when I had been quoted 100+ elsewhere just for the boots. I'm guessing the negative reviews on here are coming from overt or covert racists, which is a shame. I'd recommend this place to anyone. read more

Brought in a pair of boots to be reheeled. The new heels were passable but he damaged the boots. There were pen marks on the boot that started on the outside and continued to the inside of the other side of the boot. This was proof that the mark was made when the boots were laying flat on a table, which I've never done with the boots. There was also a fresh gouge mark on the inner calf area of the boot. Considering how careful I am with my boots, and how difficult it is to scrape anything in that area, I am 99% sure that J&J Shoe Repair caused this damage. The guy denied causing the damage and refused to offer a refund. Avoid this place at all costs. Pay a couple extra dollars to get your shoes repaired by someone who knows what they are doing. read more

The elderly asian gentleman quoted me a lower price over the phone than what he tried confirming when I came into the store. There doesn't seem to be any set prices, just what he thinks he can get away with after looking at you. He was friendly and polite nonetheless. I gave my dress shoes for a resole and will update this review once I pick them up. **Update: Picked up my shoes and have to say that I am impressed. I am updating this review from 2 stars to 4 stars because the re-sole job was done well and they shined my shoes with a very long lasting polish. I am soo soo sooo happy with my boots! Have a pair of Frye's that I love and originally had a vibram sole put on here. I've been hard on those babies and made the mistake of trying to have the heel redone at another neighborhood shop..... made my way back down to J&J and they did a BEAUTIFUL job - and in time for me to take on my trip! I swear these shoes have been to hell and back, the last time I brought them in the sole of the shoe had worn so thin from use that the nail holding the heel had poked through and was stabbing my foot. I needed one shoe altered to put a higher sole so I could walk e only with a medical boot. When I brought the shoe in I asked for estimate. It was $50. That seemed high to me but I needed it done. When I went to pick up shoe it was $75. I was really upset and he took the $70 I had. Also the shoe is higher than the boot now so I still walk unevenly. I am FURIOUS. I decided to come here after I read all the great reviews and hearing of the quick turn around time. I wanted to get the bottom of my heels resoled which he said was going to be $22 -- the same price as Nordstrom, just done much faster. I went to drop them off today and as I was leaving, I called to double check the price. He told me he was charging me $35! I told him that was too expensive (not to mention NOT the price we agreed to beforehand) and that I didn't want to do it anymore. He said he would lower it to $30. I said no and that I was coming to pick them up. He charged me $7 for the vibrams I would not be receiving. I can't believe this person thinks this is an OK business practice. This old man is not organized at all. He lost my husbands shoes. He insists that my husband picked them up. My husband had no idea I took his shoes to get fixed. This old man refuses to believe that perhaps he messed up. Ironically, or not, there are another pair of shoes almost exactly the same as my husband with around the same date.... I had a sport coat and a shirt that needed to be taken in, so I gave them a shot. The guy was no nonsense. If I could give this business a "0" star I would. I brought in 2 pairs of expensive Italian leather boots both to be polished and one pair to have the soles glued and stitched. The pair that had the soles glued and stitched look rough --at best. The second pair that was to be polished started to squeak as soon as I put them on. I immediately took the squeaky boot back into the owner to have him fix this. He told me that I must have done something to the shank when I tried them on and that he would have to rip the insole out to see what happened. I told him there was nothing wrong with this boot before- no squeak -nothing -he said he would have to charge me to fix the squeak and he could not tell me how much that it would cost me. I told him I did not think this was fair to charge me for something that occurred when he was working on my boots- he tore up my ticket and then walked to the back of the shop and turned off the lights. Today I went to pick up my new suede boots I just bough at Nordstroms on sunday and had them treated for a wet spot on the toe. He gave me half the ticket and said they'll be ready Wednesday. I went in today (WED) and he had his half of my ticket but I didn't have mine but I remembered him and he seemed to remember me.. That is until he couldn't find my shoes. He had my paperwork I filled out for them and I had the $9 dollar quote he gave me but just like Magic POOF THERE GONE! Now he either screwed up by giving my shoes away to someone else or someone else stole them. Either way he has the top half of my ticket with my name and phone number on them. He even tried to give me someone else brown boots asking me "if I was sure if these weren't them" I Just want my shoes or my money. Hell, you can even go online and order them and send them to my house Mr J & J! I just want my shoes and I want them back now before I have to take this any further. Furthermore I have never written a yelp review in my life but this guy needs to be help responsible for his criminal acts. Stealing is stealing and in American, thats Illegal. I hate to say it, but I have now had two disappointing experiences at J & J Shoe Repair. I took a leather purse in to be cleaned once- it cost $50 and looked no better than it did when I took it in. Recently, I took two pairs of boots in to be stretched. The price was pretty fair, but I am kind of doubting that he even worked on them as they don't feel really any different than they did before. When I took the boots in he didn't ask how much I wanted them stretched or where or anything! So I kept explaining exactly what I wanted, but he didn't write it down or anything. When I picked them up, I believe he was irritated that I tried both of the pairs on before leaving his store. He didn't ask me how the felt or if I was happy with them or anything, he just took my money and went back to his work on another project. If i could give 0 stars, i would. I was very upset when i picked up my shoes. The work he did on my shoes was beyond sloppy, it was messy, paint was everywhere, uneven edges and one shoe was 1/8 taller than the other. I brought them back and he fixed them a bit but still a far cry from what it should be. Never going back again. I've repaired my shoes many times elsewhere and this place is a joke.
