Brought my .357 in for a barrel replacement and they did a great job. Vintage S&W model 27 that was my Father in Law's - he had added a weighted barrel for competition shooting and I wanted to get it to original specs. Found a replacement barrel on line but had a hard time locating someone that could do this work, glad I found these guys. They told me it would take some time, so I set my expectations on 'patient'. After several weeks the gunsmith called and we discussed options, he pointed out something additional that should be done to the weapon for best results and I agreed. First off when you are an outsider, you are treated like one and you can feel it. I walked in with a gun for repair and was ignored for 10 minutes at least. A person walked in behind me that knew the used car gun salesman. He said his name you're next. The fellow said I'm last, I'm behind this gentleman. Then reluctantly did he offer any service. Snively whiplash was rude and did not know as much as he liked to portray. I asked him a simple question about my other pistol, he gave me some wrong bs answer. The older gentleman was polite and helpful. I wouldn't hand a water gun to this incompetent sale person. The shop is in Granite Bay, I'm sure he doesn't Live there though. My wife brought up a good point, she said you look Hispanic. I'll never step foot in that place and I will turn everyone away from that place that I can. You should never make anyone feel unwelcome in your place of business, you don't own it so it doesn't really matter to you. read more

Terrible customer service. I brought my gun in for a 4 dollar part and requested that they call me with a quote. I was then called weeks later saying that the work was done and would be 110 dollars. I expressed my concern about not having been called with a quote and the guy on the phone immediately got pissed. When I went to pick it up, I brought up the issue again and instead 2 guys got pissed and when I told them in the future they should honor their word and work on their customer service and the guy started calling me names, rolling his eyes. Took my Tikka in to get a new barrel put on it. Overall the gunsmiths did a great job, budget some time for any project as they'll tell you it'll take 4-6 weeks. (Took a full 4 weeks to get my gun back). If I need more work I'll probably be back. My only grip was the sale reps, just not very helpful or approachable, even on the phone, and a one in particular was straight up rude. My best advice is to do your own research and go in having done some homework on what you want, the estimated cost and some questions already handy. read more

I had a very good experience at J & G. I have been searching for a place to restore my old field rifle. I wanted to find an experienced craftsman (or woman) that has been doing this forever and I was ok with it taking 3-6 months to so. After all you can't rush quality. When I first pulled up to the shop I was surprised. It's out in the middle of a county road in between housing plots and the building was very unassuming. I stepped in and they have a lot of selection if you're in the market for a new firearm. I spoke with Mike and the quote I received was very fair and the lead time was about what I expected. I came back about 3 months later and the rifle was restored amazingly! However my only gripe was that I ordered a muzzle brake to be added to the rifle and they didn't install it. It wouldn't be a big deal if I lived in the area but I live in the bay area and drove to Rocklin (outer Sacramento area) to pick it up. Oh well. The work was done very well and I got a master craftsman to resolve my rifle issues for a very reasonable price. Lesson learned here is confirm all the details and after you've all agreed to the scope of work, confirm again. In the end, I would definitely do business with them gain. read more

This is a great shop. They are very supportive of youth shooting sports and have helped my out with my son's shotguns several times. J&G has a nice selection of guns and provides excellent service. That being said, my perception is that if you walk in there like an entitled know it all you may not like your experience. Took a gun in for a finish restoration and had a question about some internal parts on another gun and was directed to speak with the guy in the back Keith. I assume he was the gunsmith. He came out and told me what he could do and gave me a price which was extremely high in my opinion. 550.00 to redo the blue on the gun. I went to leave and he walked from around the side of the building and told me that if I was interested in getting a better price he could do it at his house for about 450.00 and gave me his number. He then mentioned that he worked at another store and they have better pricing as well. I was so caught off guard and wanted to walk in a report him to the manager but thought it may cause an issue and opted to just go elsewhere. read more

Took in a riffle to get repaired cause bolt kept releasing.There was a recall on the bolt action riffle i took in and they never said a word When i went to pick my riffle.Checked the bolt action same issue bolt would still release on its own. Counter person took back riffle to repair back room to see if they could fix issue well they fix issue . But know when you perform action on bolt it releases fire pin automatically good thing i did dry fire not happy with there work and it took almost 5 months never going to go back hate writing reviews like this but had to be done!! read more

Worst service ever, workers are super hostile when you ask questions about your firearm, I took in my benelli nova for a missing retaining pin & ejector and was told it would be no longer then 3week, a month later, I called for a updated and was told to give them abt 2 to 3 more weeks, waited for the call and another month later called once again and was meet with the worse of attitudes and was told to come pick up my shotgun and try to do it my self bc my parts where not findable now days. Very disappointed. Dropped my gun off 3 weeks ago. The guy taking my order was rather abrupt from the get go. Called him at the two week mark, and still had no idea when they would get to it. Very much like I was inconveniencing him. Came in today just to see where we are at, since it has now been 3 weeks. First, I waited at the counter approximately 30 seconds before this same guy even acknowledged I was standing there as he was on his computer. Poor customer service. At least say " Hey welcome in I'll be right with ya" or something. And still, he could not give me any type of timeline. Told him as a customer I could have been told at the beginning the delay I would be facing. He couldn't care less. Took the gun back, handed it to me with a magazine in place and no safety check. Big huge no-no. I believe the gun community should stick together and be supportive of one another, but I can't look the other way at this. I would avoid this business. I asked an employee for a quote to perform a certain procedure on my pistol. The employee quoted and promised the job at $80.00. With that price certain in mind, I requested J&G Gunsmith perform the job. When I picked up the pistol, however, I was charged $130.38. Why the huge price increase? Was there additional work done? Parts needed? No. That's just the price for that job. The employee who quoted me the original $80.00 said he was sorry for the miss-quote, however no compensation was forthcoming. Having no choice to receive my pistol, I had to pay the $130.38. The job I requested was preformed correctly, but customers should be aware. read more

I had a scope that needed to be removed and another mounted as I could not get the mount screws out without stripping them. They took me in right and about a half an hour later they called and told me the gun was ready. It was the best $35.00 I have spent in a long time. I highly recommend this business. read more

OK, so back in October of 2021, I went to J&G gunsmith with a Kel Teh shotgun wanting some simple action work. I'm writing this today January 3, 2022. They still have the gun and nothing has been done. I called three different times asking for the status of this and each time,. I was told they had to call me back. I never received any call. I work at a very large place that sells guns and have been referring people to J&G. Not anymore! Honesty, they just don't give a $#%$)@. I'm going into the place this Wednesday and taking back my firearm and taking it to another gunsmith. Honestly, DON'T go there, you'll be really disappointed and sorry. read more

I gave Jerry 8 shot guns to sell. After he sold some of them he never called me to say he sold them. When I went down there he only gave me money for one of the guns. He stated he would have the rest of the money when I get back from vacation. I told him to put the check in the mail. He never did that. I called him and he stated he has not written the check. States he does not write checks over the counter. He takes your guns to sell, however he does not want to pay you for them once they are sold. He just wants to hang on to the money. Stay away from this shop, I don't find them honest, find them bad news. read more

I called prior to bringing in my AR for some repairs. They asked me what was wrong with it, I gave them a brief description and they said to bring it by. I traveled 30 min or so and when I went to check in my gun they said they don't work on ARs. If that's your policy I'm fine with it but if that's the case then certainly don't tell me to bring you my gun and waist my time and gas money. I took my Kimber K6s in to have factory sights replaced with Tritium night sights. I also had them do the super-duper take apart cleaning. Looks like it's never been fired. Great job!!! Triggers seems smoother as my guess is it comes "dry" from the factory. I liked it so well I had them clean my 1955 S&W model 37. It also operates smoother. They were done, both time, under the estimated time. All work was done correctly. I looked at for sale guns and the prices are fair. The folks I dealt with were friendly and professional. I dropped my Sig 45 like a dumb turd before I bought a holster. It shot high left. Took it in since I trust and have known them for a long time. The guy said give me a few minutes. I browsed around and ten minutes later he was done. During an upcoming qualification I punched out a 2 and 1/2" bullseye with 28 rounds. Spot on at 15 yards. read more

Over the years, I've had J & G perform repairs to a variety of my weapons. I've always had the very best of results. I'm one case, with my Remington 40X they made a scope suggestion that turned out to be spot on, and saved me hundreds of dollars. It boils down to experience, ... they have it. Sure, there will be those times where a repair is more pricey than quoted, but like everything mechanical in life there can be complications. I've never once left their store feeling anything less than satisfied. I've also purchased a couple of weapons from them, today I bought a M14. The price was extremely competitive and the personal experience relayed to me from the staff helped me make a quick decision. Again, saving time and money due to their knowledge. In these troubled and wary times, especially in Calif, it's vital to support these locally owned gun stores. The big box stores close, they come and go. Several of them go politically correct and stop carrying guns altogether. During times of stress, Covid 19 for instance, the box stores close whereby the stores like J & G stay open. This is exactly why I support the owner operator stores. Nothing more useless than a weapon that's broken or one without ammunition. Go to J & G, you won't be disappointed. What a quality gunsmith should be. I gave my 870 to some joker in Reno prior to the 2018 season. He said no problem. About 8 months later, I finally demanded that I come get it because he didn't even touch the gun. He couldn't even tell me where it was because he said he sent it out. Long story short...sent it USPS to J&G for an extractor spring R&R and had it back like new in a few weeks. Great service. read more
