Nice, clean, centrally located condo-hotel with a clean beach but my god, it's not the place to relax or take a mid day siesta in the room when you need a break from the sun. Between the screaming kids and loud older college age people at the pool we almost moved hotels. It wasn't just one day, it was every day. I almost don't want to post this review because I don't want people knowing about it! This was our second trip. They are very strict on their rules and ways they do things but other than that I love everything about this hotel. Housekeeping accidentally threw out our toothpaste and the GM went to get some and deliver it to us personally. That meant a lot to us. I like the servers and the restaurant. Very clean Hotel and in one of the best locations for food shopping and the beach is amazing. The staff was very friendly and nice. The pool area and bar were great. We booked a two room PH suite based on a recommendation from a friend to bring my sister who is going thru chemo. We were supposed to get all on one floor. This room had a huge area upstairs with a whirlpool but no shade. Had to climb a spiral staircase to get to. She couldn't do it. They gave us access thru using the elevator, but it meant leaving the room. We wished we had gotten a single floor. Resturaunt ok ask them not to put the paper on the plate. Ate two bites of omelet before realizing I ate the paper. Sister had a fall when we arrived and cut her arm really bad. They were all over it with medical care and fixed the trip hazzards...kudos to them. Would stay there again, but ensure we got the room we thought we reserved. read more

We loved our time at the Ixchel Beach hotel. The staff at the beach and restaurant were kind and friendly and treated us like family. Special shout out to Emilio and the wonderful waiter from Arizona!! We enjoyed breakfast and coffee at the reasonably priced restaurant and appreciate how clean the beach and premises were kept. The hotel is quiet and centrally located. We felt safe and appreciated the extra security measures. The area around the hotel is quite vibrant---don't forget to try the churros and marquesitas sold by local vendors. Each room is decorated differently, so make sure you request a renovated room. The beach was beautiful and very, very clean. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back. read more

Came back from a week in Cancun and absolutely loved this place! Hotel is located on the best spot on the island, zero seaweed , Playa Carmen and Tulum we're swamped with seaweed. Rooms are spacious and very clean, ours was on the ground floor with immediate access to the pool and beach. We never entered the pool, preferred the beach. Amazing water , great and super nice hotel staff. Margaritas were amazing. Hotel staff always with a smile. Try to get to the beach early to get a beach chair w umbrella. You're gonna need it. Stay until sundown, you'll see amazing sunsets. Trust me. Also you're very close to the local restaurants which are all amazing, best seafood I've ate in all Mexico. Night life is abundant here. Can't go wrong with picking one, all are very good. So next time you come to Isla Mujeres (we definitely will return) pick this hotel. Can't go wrong. Great place to stay. read more

Wow! The front desk people are amazing. I mentioned it was my wife's birthday and our 30 anniversary (yes it was!) and instead of being on the 1st floor they put us on the 4th floor #2404. The view were very nice. Next time I will request a corner room with views of the entire beach, maybe even the pent house. Chepo, the guy serving us on the beach was the best of all of them. He should get promoted! It's because of him and his hospitality is why we will be back. The food on the beach was very good. Fish tacos, fish sticks. There was two young kids on the beach everyday I was there working there butts off. I felt bad for them working in such high heat and humidity. Great hard working young kids. I don't remember his name but he was 21 years old. Love all the restaurants so close buy. YES, most take credit cards but might charge you a %. We really enjoyed our stay. The beach on Playa Norte is so perfect with beach chairs and umbrellas available for guests - might be the nicest beach I've been to as there was no seaweed or sharp objects in the sand to step on. This was our first time here. We usually stay at Mia Reef, formerly Avalon. We loved the location, close to town. We had a 1 bedroom studio. Our son slept on the couch. There was a full kitchen but we ate out including the hotel restaurant. We loved the fresh juices and the Mexican burrito. I had an amazing beachside massage for $35. Of the bed was firmer and the hotel a little quieter, I would give it 5 stars. I loved the patio. The beach was packed; no one seemed to wait until 10am to claim their beach chairs. Despite everyone running out at 6:30am to put their towels on the hotel's beach chairs, they did set up chairs and umbrellas for us. read more

I've been vacationing on this island since 2006, and Ixchel is by far the nicest hotel I've stayed in. Not only does it offer you access to Playa Norte which is the prettiest beach, but the staff are always courteous and nearby should you need anything. Each room has a safe for valuables like passports and wallets, powerful air conditioning (if you've never experienced Mexican sun, trust me it's important), showers with excellent water pressure, and though you still can't use water from the sink to brush your teeth, there is a purified water cooler in every room which they keep full for you to do so with. Now, my rating is based solely on the two units I've stayed in. A lot of people hold timeshares in this hotel so every room is a little different, and you reserve through the owner of the unit not with the hotel itself. That means some of the rooms could be a lot less nicer than others so really do your research. When my husband and I would come here alone, we would stay in the penthouse because we knew the owners personally and it's a gorgeous room with stunning views and its own hot tub on the roof. I believe they have since sold it to someone else sadly. Since another couple came with us this trip, we found a different unit to better suit our needs. It worked out perfectly because we each have our own bedroom and bathrooms, but share a kitchen and living space that even has a pull out couch bed. It would be ideal for traveling families with kids as well. Included with your stay are free clean beach towels everyday, beach chairs, and umbrellas. Do not lose your beach towel cards! You need to return them upon checking out of the hotel or else each card lost is a $20 fee. They also have beachside waiters which will bring you food and drinks directly to your chair all day long. It is glorious! Please remember to tip not only them but the daily maid service who cleans your room nicely. The restaurant at the hotel is quite good too. We had breakfast there for the first time yesterday since it was Christmas morning and we couldn't find anything else that was open. We were very surprised how delicious and cheap it was! For two people to have a huge breakfast, the total was around 16 American dollars. Not bad at all! There are other nice hotels on the island I'm sure, but once I found Ixchel there was no going back. And being located close to restaurant row also, you can walk to shop or eat so a golf cart rental isn't needed. read more

What can I say? Isla Mujeres is one of my favorite places and this is the place to enjoy it! There are two pools, a beautiful wide, white sand beach and killer views! Beach chairs, umbrellas and towels are included as is free wi fi access. The restaurant on premises, Kalik, offers many local entrees and seafood at poolside, sit down and room service- the food and drinks were excellent! Waitress Alejandra and Enrique were very pleasant and friendly. The restaurant lined street is just one block away making for a perfect location. Only a $4 cab ride from ferry or you can walk if not too much luggage. Will definitely stay here again- best prices are though their website. read more

This place was AMAZING!!! From the minute we landed in Cancun we were taken care of! We got transportation from the hotel so transport from the hotel to the ferry and to the resort was seamless and smooth - everyone is so hospitable and friendly!!! The room we had was the one bedroom penthouse beachfront and I have to say we had the BEST view ever. Huge balcony with a hot tub, everything was spotless and clean and the staff went out of there way every day to make sure we had everything we wanted. One person that stood out for his AMAZING service and going above and beyond was Chepo! He served us on the beach every day and was so awesome! He even had my sunglasses delivered to the room after I left them on the beach! We told him we were coming back just because of him and it's true! We stayed at this hotel during our vacation on Isla Mujeres. The hotel is conveniently located right on the beach and within walking distance to all of the restaurants and bars on or near Hidalgo Street. It is very clean and all of the staff is very friendly and helpful. We loved that our stay included beach chairs and umbrellas which the guys who work on the beach for the hotel are more than happy to help you with. :) The only thing that I would change is that their washers and dryers need to be replaced ASAP! They charge $550 Mexican pesos (if I remember correctly) for each load per machine and I had to ask reception to call maintenance for each load because the machine wouldn't start after accepting the token. I truly do not know how people can give this place more than 2 stars. Our stay was awful from start to finish. We would have left after the first night if we could have got our money back. The transfer service the hotel booked for us from the airport - AGI - was a complete mess, totally not worth the $200 r/t it cost us. When we arrived at the hotel the baby bed we had requested when we booked and again when I confirmed our reservation the week before still was not in the room. We called down to the front desk two times requesting it and finally, at 2am, we went to housekeeping and got the crib and brought it back to the room ourselves. I was also shocked to be approached by someone dressed as hotel staff on the beach telling me I had to pay a special fee to use the beach chairs, which the front desk confirmed was not true; I don't know whether the person on the beach actually worked for the hotel or was just wearing a hotel shirt, but either way he was a hustler. We also had several issues with the service that aren't worth detailing. I'd also like to note the pool was nothing special (it was actually pretty small IMO), the room was also pretty basic (although if you splurge for a penthouse suite those are much bigger and a better value), and the beach is small with huge boulders in the ocean making it difficult to enjoy. Bottom line, if you've ever been to the Caribbean you know you can find the same sand/blue water that people are raving about in their reviews elsewhere - those things have nothing to do with the hotel! And at least in other places they have good service and value for your money! Don't bother staying at Ixchel, and unless you're coming for the whale sharks, don't even bother with Isla Mujeres. read more

My family and I just spent 10 wonderful nights in rooms 407-408 of Building I. This is a two bedroom apartment (1 king bedroom, double queen bedroom, living room+kitchen) with balcony overlooking the ocean and pools. It is extremely clean and comfortable, and was perfect for our family. The rate includes daily housekeeping. You can rent it from the hotel itself or from the owner Randy Possum (612-964-3104 or www.ixchelvacation.com). Randy is a pleasure to deal with. The hotel is situated on the most beautiful beach on the island, and is a five minute walk from very good restaurants and cafes. As soon as you check in meet with the Concierge Mauricio to receive an island overview. He has excellent taste. The daily rate entitles you to beach lounge chairs and umbrellas. Virginio will set up your umbrellas and chairs with amazing care. He has an terribly grueling job, but I have never seen anybody showing more pride in his work. The pool was pretty, but we much preferred the beach. The hotel has a spa, but I highly recommend the massage services hidden behind the palapa snack bar off to the left (when you walk our of the hotel). With a generous tip, an hour massage costed 700 pesos = $37. My only issue with the hotel was the (free) wifi speed. At times it was unusably slow. This is a hotel problem and not a problem with these specific rooms. read more

We rented the penthouse suite 501. Words can't explain. The service of the hotel staff is unbelievable. They knew us by name. Knew our drinks. We even bought a lobster and a fish off the fishermen and the kitchen cooked it for a very small fee. I can't say enough about this place. Our private rooftop with jacuzzi..... didn't even know we would have this. Full kitchen. Cooked tons of food so we didn't have to go out for every meal. Best week of our lives! The best South of the Border experience so far. The staff, rooms, the beach was smooth as silk. 80 ft out into the crystal clear water and only up to my chest. Michelata: Do I need to say more. Best Breakfast place: Mango Cafe, Best Lunch place: Salty Peso, Best Dinner place: ROLANDIs. Best Chill place : The joint LIVE music. The Ice bar was a pleasant once in a lifetime experience, we only lasted about 30-40 min. Riding the golf carts around the island was fun as well. Can't wait to return. I just came back from 5 nights on Isla Mujeres and we were very happy with the Ixchel Beach Hotel. All of the basic things you want in a beach hotel were there: very clean, comfortable bed, hot water, air conditioning and convenience to the beach. It is in a very central location, so you walk right out to the beach from the hotel grounds, A block away is the main "downtown" area (Hidalgo Street) with restaurant after restaurant and tourist shop after tourist shop. And its about a 10 minute walk to the ferry. The hotel has 2 buildings -- one is for condos; many of the units are rented out by the owners. We stayed on the hotel side, and made our reservations thru Booking.com. While that worked well and we had no problems, it was not easy to communicate with the hotel from the US. We booked many weeks in advance and as our trip approached, I tried called the hotel to confirm our reservations. None of the calls were successful in reaching anyone at the hotel; I was only able to get someone at Booking.com who said if the website said we had a reservation, we didn't need to worry. And that was true. I also tried to contact the staff using their email address to ask if there would be irons available. I didn't get an answer until after we arrived -- but as the very helpful concierge explained, he is the only person watching the email accounts. I had written late on a Friday so he didn't see the email until Monday morning. The staff was always very helpful - we wanted an extra pillow and it was there. And the concierge was very helpful with questions I had about activities on the island The hotel provides "international cable" but out of the 40 channels, only 4 are in English: cartoon network, VH1, FX and HBO. And HBO is English only part of the time. Considering that the vast majority of guests are Americans, they could provide a better selection. One other minor annoyance: they expect their guests to wear wrist bands which is supposed to allow you to exchange towels and get service on the beach. But they can be annoying and it seems like an imposition on guests to be expected to be tagged like they were chickens in a factory farm. There are only 3 or 4 good hotels on the island and most are within walking distance on the north end of the island. Ixchel Beach Hotel is in the center of Playa Norte which is a beautiful beach with fine white sand; its very clean (every morning, we saw the staff raking and policing the beach). But we were there during spring and it got very crowded in the middle of the day. The hotel provides lounge chairs on its section of the beach for its guests and they pack guests into those chairs like a NYC subway car at rush hour. And nearby bars blare music all day long, so if you want a serene beach experience, this isn't the place. This was our first visit to Isla Mujeres and if we return, I would consider the hotel again if it were not a holiday period; during a holiday period, I would look into the Mia Hotel since it is a comfortable distance from the more crowded beach areas. read more

Stayed in one of the privately owned units, but had all of the amenities of the hotel. The service was excellent and we loved Alexis. There was some construction being dine outside our unit and the hotel made sure to take care of any issues immediately. I would highly recommend any room in the hotel as the location is great. The beach chairs and umbrella service are great. The drinks and food are what you would expect from a hotel. We are already looking forward to our next trip. read more

Very nice Condo/Hotel. We had a 1 bedroom with an adjoining "hotel room" making it a 2 bedroom. Huge balcony with table and chairs with a great view of the beach. Very nice furnishings and upscale style facility. Truly is a condo not a hotel room. Staff was very friendly and helpful. You can rent a golf cart right next door. Great location on Playa Norte. This is the prime beach and it is awesome as they have a reserved beach area with lounge chairs, umbrellas and towels for your use at no additional charge. They have excellent security throughout the property and they politely police the beach area and keep non guests from intruding. There can be a ton of boaters that anchor up and swim in and think they can just grab a lounge chair. The staff quickly explains that this is for hotel guests only and it is back to peace and quiet. Beach service for drinks is excellent and I was shocked at how reasonable the bar tab was after a long day of taking advantage of this service. There are 2 pools, a bar and a restaurant. Did not eat at the restaurant. Very easy walk to everything on the North end of the island. Lots of restaurants, bars, shopping, the ferry etc etc. right nearby. We actually walked from the ferry. I would highly recommend this hotel. read more
