- Staff: Friendly ( Poor English ) 4/5 - Rooms and service: Rooms and clean and no major issue but the very loud fans in the bathrooms 5/5 - beach service: towel service is great, the food and drink take a long time mostly due to them being understaffed I believe 3.5/5 - Quiet/Comfort: 1/5 during our 1 week of stay there were constructions everywhere. Next to our room, by the pool and on the beach. That was the most annoying part. If you go there check with front desk if there are constructions around your room. It can heavily impact your stay!

After staying at other places on the island over the past eight years, Ixchel is a great find that will now be my place of choice. If you book early enough directly with the hotel, you can get great rates. Clean and spacious rooms with nice bathrooms and comfortable beds. Many free extras that other hotels don't have. Great free beach and two large pools. Very friendly and prompt service.

Amazing sunsets from this hotel

Came back from a week in Cancun and absolutely loved this place! Hotel is located on the best spot on the island, zero seaweed , Playa Carmen and Tulum we're swamped with seaweed. Rooms are spacious and very clean, ours was on the ground floor with immediate access to the pool and beach. We never entered the pool, preferred the beach. Amazing water , great and super nice hotel staff. Margaritas were amazing. Hotel staff always with a smile. Try to get to the beach early to get a beach chair w umbrella. You're gonna need it. Stay until sundown, you'll see amazing sunsets. Trust me. Also you're very close to the local restaurants which are all amazing, best seafood I've ate in all Mexico. Night life is abundant here. Can't go wrong with picking one, all are very good. So next time you come to Isla Mujeres (we definitely will return) pick this hotel. Can't go wrong. Great place to stay.

Wow! The front desk people are amazing. I mentioned it was my wife's birthday and our 30 anniversary (yes it was!) and instead of being on the 1st floor they put us on the 4th floor #2404. The view were very nice. Next time I will request a corner room with views of the entire beach, maybe even the pent house. Chepo, the guy serving us on the beach was the best of all of them. He should get promoted! It's because of him and his hospitality is why we will be back. The food on the beach was very good. Fish tacos, fish sticks. There was two young kids on the beach everyday I was there working there butts off. I felt bad for them working in such high heat and humidity. Great hard working young kids. I don't remember his name but he was 21 years old. Love all the restaurants so close buy. YES, most take credit cards but might charge you a %. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you very much!!!!

This was our first time here. We usually stay at Mia Reef, formerly Avalon. We loved the location, close to town. We had a 1 bedroom studio. Our son slept on the couch. There was a full kitchen but we ate out including the hotel restaurant. We loved the fresh juices and the Mexican burrito. I had an amazing beachside massage for $35. Of the bed was firmer and the hotel a little quieter, I would give it 5 stars. I loved the patio. The beach was packed; no one seemed to wait until 10am to claim their beach chairs. Despite everyone running out at 6:30am to put their towels on the hotel's beach chairs, they did set up chairs and umbrellas for us.

I've been vacationing on this island since 2006, and Ixchel is by far the nicest hotel I've stayed in. Not only does it offer you access to Playa Norte which is the prettiest beach, but the staff are always courteous and nearby should you need anything. Each room has a safe for valuables like passports and wallets, powerful air conditioning (if you've never experienced Mexican sun, trust me it's important), showers with excellent water pressure, and though you still can't use water from the sink to brush your teeth, there is a purified water cooler in every room which they keep full for you to do so with. Now, my rating is based solely on the two units I've stayed in. A lot of people hold timeshares in this hotel so every room is a little different, and you reserve through the owner of the unit not with the hotel itself. That means some of the rooms could be a lot less nicer than others so really do your research. When my husband and I would come here alone, we would stay in the penthouse because we knew the owners personally and it's a gorgeous room with stunning views and its own hot tub on the roof. I believe they have since sold it to someone else sadly. Since another couple came with us this trip, we found a different unit to better suit our needs. It worked out perfectly because we each have our own bedroom and bathrooms, but share a kitchen and living space that even has a pull out couch bed. It would be ideal for traveling families with kids as well. Included with your stay are free clean beach towels everyday, beach chairs, and umbrellas. Do not lose your beach towel cards! You need to return them upon checking out of the hotel or else each card lost is a $20 fee. They also have beachside waiters which will bring you food and drinks directly to your chair all day long. It is glorious! Please remember to tip not only them but the daily maid service who cleans your room nicely. The restaurant at the hotel is quite good too. We had breakfast there for the first time yesterday since it was Christmas morning and we couldn't find anything else that was open. We were very surprised how delicious and cheap it was! For two people to have a huge breakfast, the total was around 16 American dollars. Not bad at all! There are other nice hotels on the island I'm sure, but once I found Ixchel there was no going back. And being located close to restaurant row also, you can walk to shop or eat so a golf cart rental isn't needed.

This place was AMAZING!!! From the minute we landed in Cancun we were taken care of! We got transportation from the hotel so transport from the hotel to the ferry and to the resort was seamless and smooth - everyone is so hospitable and friendly!!! The room we had was the one bedroom penthouse beachfront and I have to say we had the BEST view ever. Huge balcony with a hot tub, everything was spotless and clean and the staff went out of there way every day to make sure we had everything we wanted. One person that stood out for his AMAZING service and going above and beyond was Chepo! He served us on the beach every day and was so awesome! He even had my sunglasses delivered to the room after I left them on the beach! We told him we were coming back just because of him and it's true! We will be back ASAP - thank u Ixchtel beach hotel!!!

I have stayed in many different rooms including garden, partial ocean view and on my latest stay a King Ocean Front Room. I have been staying here for 3 years. During my current stay, as you can see from the photos, my view was partially obstructed. There was a lounger out front of my room however I never got to use it due to it being taken by other guests the entire stay, not a huge issue. My room was never cleaned during my stay and I was there for 5 days. One day, a maid came by and gave me clean towels and took my trash. That is unacceptable and disappointing. Also, some sort of construction was going on and I was awoken to it or other loud staff every morning. Again, unacceptable. The staff also seemed to take a keen interest in what was going on in my room, to the point I could hear them outside my room snooping. The owners are lovely people and we come here to go fishing with Keen M, highly recommended. I hope they see this review and implement some much needed changes. If so, I'd happily update my review to 4.5 stars next trip.

In past stays on the island, we rented a golf cart and due to the location of this property, did not need to do so. Fantastic location. The front desk was closed, when we arrived, and had to get an on-site spa masseuse call the hotel manager so we could check-in. Once we connected with the manager, things went very smooth. We arrived to the room, we realized that It had two queen beds rather than the king bed that we reserved. Spoke to the manager and she advised that the rooms with king beds had broken ac. Special note- the manager, Alex, communicated very well, attentive to our needs and offered excellent customer service. She was impressive. The room was clean, large, with all accommodations "as advertised." We were impressed with the cleanliness of the room. It had a mini kitchen, medium sized fridge, and nice closet. The facility offered beach towels in addition to bathroom towels. The towels were of high quality and nice. Our first night, we experienced the ac not cooling well, notified Alex and she promptly addressed our concern and we were very happy. The pool was clean. Spa was not working. Area outside of our hotel room was clean and well-groomed for a tropical type setting. Love the occasional iguana's roaming freely through the area as this contributed to the positive experience. We understand that the price point of this hotel is on the lower end. Based on this we rated it as 4. The hotel is in a fantastic location. Do not expect luxurious accommodations. We only stayed here one night, then moved to the glamorous house she rented for the rest of the week. As we approached the hotel from the street, I realized it was SO close to the beach, very nice view and not noisy at all. The lobby area was clean and spacious, with a restroom right off the main room, as well as an area to leave your luggage (not secured). My room faced the beach. The patio had 2 chairs, just right for sipping your coffee before you head out. My room was clean and spacious, with two beds. I noticed, however that the door I thought would have been the door to enter, actually just led to an open space and I don't believe you can get to the office that way. So I came and went thru the sliding glass doors off the patio. The hotel has a nice pool and bar area. They even have a spa with outdoor massages (an enclosed area just off the pool). The bar area also serves as a restaurant but I didn't dine there. Like other reviewers, I didn't have hot water. Thankfully it was only the one night. The lobby staff's pleasantry was hit or miss. The sushi rice was mushy, sweet, and vinegary. The fire dessert tasted bad. The coconut ice cream was actually okay. So was the cracker thing they brought first. The fish from the fish and chips at the beach club was the juciest fish I ever had. The ceviche from the beach club was almost perfect. I drank the juice at the end. The drinks to get are the Pina Colada and the Miami Vice. The breakfast food from Sabor is pretty good. They don't have good gluten free substitutions. The bread that I got when I asked for it tasted weird and was hard. The yogurt toppings they have in the jars next to the cereal are stale. The parfait cups are good. They had beef fajita one day and it was amazing. The orange juice is good and fresh. Their poached eggs are acceptable. And I always got a hash brown. At the pool bar/restaurant, the nachos were perfect. We got to do the Mexican dinner at the beach club. It was not good. It was just bland and boring. I do think the all-inclusive is worth it. I jumped to food so let me go back to check-in and rooms. Check-in was kind of annoying bc we waited 30 minutes to get helped. They have 3 computers and some of the other guests can be pretty entitled, asking for a lot of different things and what not. They also didn't offer anything to make up for that even though we commented on it. There was a bellboy handing out champagne and wet towels. The room was pretty nice. It could use some rugs but otherwise pretty modern. We got an ocean view and there is a huge living room area that we didn't need. I would have liked to try room service but didn't get the chance. I don't know if anyone else mentioned this in their reviews but the hotel's beach club is on Playa Centro even though the name has Norte in it. That seems like a lawsuit (Mexico?) waiting to happen. So if you want to see the nice Norte beach, you need walk through a few other places on the beach. It can get tricky bc the beach cuts off at the corner. But a lot of people were doing it. There was a very rude gringo at the pool one time who was yelling at a staff worker. Nobody stepped in which pissed me off. I walked over to the staff worker to offer my complaint and support. I saw the gringo around in the days after but he didn't act that way again. But I sure was mean mugging him.

It's clear he's been trained well. I want to give credit where it's due. My complaints about Andres stand, but Javier restored some of my faith that the hotel's leadership understands how guests should be treated. I really wanted to like Privilege Aluxes. Isla Mujeres is beautiful and we were looking forward to a relaxing few days. Unfortunately, this hotel made that difficult at nearly every turn. We booked a four-night stay and were placed in a suite that shared a wall with what I can only assume was a nightclub. The music was deafening, going until 4am one night and around midnight on others. Not exactly the peaceful beach vacation we had in mind. We were also told a complimentary bottle of liquor would be delivered to our room. It never came, and we never bothered following up because by that point we had bigger concerns. At check-in, we let the front desk know my wife has a gluten intolerance. They wrote it down. That was the last time anyone seemed to remember. Every restaurant on the property tried to serve her items with gluten. Staff could not tell us what was safe to eat and confidently told her certain dishes were fine when they absolutely were not. She spent most of the trip eating chips and guacamole because she was genuinely afraid of getting sick. For a resort that specifically asks about allergies, the lack of communication between the front desk and the kitchen was honestly dangerous. The most frustrating part came when we tried to extend our stay by one night. The acting manager, Andres, quoted us $800. I showed him the hotel's own website listing the same suite at $662 and a standard room at $451. He shrugged and told us we should book online if it was cheaper because he could not help us. So we booked through Expedia. The next morning we were told we had to leave the property for three hours between checkout and check-in, despite this being a continuous reservation at the same hotel. We could see rooms listed as available online. When we brought this up, he claimed nothing was open. It felt like retaliation for not paying his inflated rate. No offer of late checkout. No early check-in. Not even a suggestion to use the pool or beach while we waited. Just be out by noon. I calmly explained that our experience had not been great and that this could be a chance to turn things around. He was completely uninterested. On top of all this, the bartender at the Playa Norte beach club was rude every time we interacted with him. The service overall felt undertrained and indifferent. I do not write reviews like this often, but I would hate for someone else to spend this kind of money and walk away feeling the way we did. There are other hotels on Isla Mujeres that will treat you better.
