It's a little underwhelming when you drive up, but Itto Sushi definitely makes up for its first appearance with delicious food and quick, friendly service. Everything on the menu looked good, so it was hard to decide what to order. I came in just wanting sushi, but the bento box seemed like a cool idea so I ordered one of those with beef teriyaki and a crunch spicy tuna roll. Yum. But my favorite thing of the night was the Las Vegas tempura roll. It was so good! I think I could eat it every day. The portion sizes are pretty good, and between the tempura roll and the bento box my husband and I both ended up stuffed. The staff greeted us loudly as we walked in, and when we sat down someone was over immediately to pour us water. They checked in on us periodically throughout the meal, too. I've been here once before, but it had been a while, so I didn't want to review until it was fresh on my mind. I visited here yesterday with my husband, brother, and sister in law, and we were all quite pleased. Here's a run-down of the rolls we ordered, from my least favorite to favorite: Titanic-We had this with the spicy mayo on the side, and I forgot to try the roll dipped in some, but their eel sauce is not good. It is SO sweet. I couldn't quite place the flavor, but I think there was cinnamon and/or maple syrup in it (weird, right?!). I would recommend ordering any rolls that come with eel sauce without it, or at least on the side. The roll itself was pretty good, although I'm not a shrimp fan and it was pretty shrimp-y. Tempura Philadelphia-This was fine, but frying a roll seems superfluous. Also, if I get something fried I want it to be crispy, and I think sushi is just too wet to be very crispy. Stick with a regular Philadelphia roll. Firebird-This is where things got good. The roll comes in a tin foil packet on top of a cast iron "grill" and on fire. I know, it's gimmicky, but just ignore that because it's actually super delicious! It tasted sort of smoky/camp fire/grilled, and absolutely not fishy at all. It wasn't hot, just a little warm. If you had someone who was new to sushi, or had tried it previously and didn't care for it, this would be a great roll for them to try. It was the favorite of my husband (not a big sushi fan) and brother. Plus it's part of their half off deal on Tuesdays and Wednesdays! Tokyo-My only complaint about this roll is that it kept falling apart because it wasn't rolled in nori or anything else. But even so I'd order it again and again. It was delicious!! Loved the fried garlic and the garlic sauce. It had roe, which freaks my husband out, but even he liked it. I expected it to be spicier with the jalepeno, but the slices were pretty thin, so it was quite mild. Sunset-It was tough to pick a favorite, but I think this would have to be it. The flavor was really fresh and clean. I LOVED the thinly sliced lemon on top. It had pretty good sized portions of salmon, but it wasn't fishy at all. It was also really, really pretty. Very yummy with some wasabi, too. This is one of the half off options as well. We also shared the edamame and gyoza. Edamame was simply salted (a bit unevenly, but that's nit-picky), however it was a good size portion for $4.00. Gyoza was not my favorite. It was pretty soft, and if I get pan-fried potstickers I want em crispy! Flavor was good, though. I think prices are average. Simple rolls start at $6, the average of the specialty rolls is $10, with the highest being $13.95. Yes, they are more than many of the other locations in the valley, but restaurants like those are the reason I thought I didn't like sushi for so long. We had a gift certificate from restaurant.com, but I've also heard they do deals on Groupon, so that's worth looking into. And of course they have about 20 rolls that are 1/2 off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:00-9:00. I do want to try that sometime, although I'm sure it's busy around dinner, so I'd try to order right at 5:00 or toward closing. Service was decent. They were not busy, so checked on us pretty frequently, although they didn't refill our waters. My sister in law mentioned she didn't like the eel sauce, and the waitress offered to get her something else, but she declined. I wish they would have just brought her a new roll without the sauce anyways, but since my sister in law said it wasn't necessary I can't really hold that against them. They did not complain about splitting our check, and brought it in a timely fashion when we'd finished our meal. This has become my second favorite sushi joint in the valley (beat only by Takashi), and one I think I will frequent quite regularly as it is so close to my house. One more note, they are located in a strip center, so easy to miss, and parking can be a challenge (the lot was almost full at 5:00pm on a Thursday, I can't imagine what it's like at dinner time on the weekend!). Don't let that stop you, but just keep it in mind. read more

By far the best sushi I have had in Utah. Moving here from the beach in LA I was worried I wouldn't be able to find fresh fish and delicious, creative rolls. This place is perfect for new and exciting rolls. The sauces are delicious and the complexity of the rolls stimulate every taste bud. If you're a purist, the chefs recommended sashimi and sushi are yummy as well. Oh and last but not least to rolls can all be made gluten free. Even the tempera. They place close attention to detail and make sure ever order is made with your modifications. Everyone I've brought to Itto loves it! Wow, I always seem to order a lot whenever I go to a sushi joint. The miso soup was so good yet so simple. The seaweed salad was the way it is - perfect. I just have to have seaweed salad when I eat sushi. What can I say about salmon nigri? It was not too thick or too thin. I can taste the rice and salmon in a perfect balance. Next time I'm gonna a different nigri. Traditional tuna roll was excellent. The rice was not too thick or too small. I always liked to save the last few pieces before I finish everything on my plate. The Mars roll was pretty good too. It had shrimp tempura, cucumber, spicy mayo topped with crab salad, tuna, avocado and red sauce. Yum! Overall, the experience was superb. I usually always place pick up orders over the phone and they're always ready for pickup within 30 minutes, (usually much less) my personal favorite is the sunset roll, but I always order sunset and rainbow. Not really sure why this place is rated so highly. I would say it's on the lower scale for sushi in SLC. The rolls were okay, problem is they all taste the same. Different ingredients in each, but all topped with the same sauce. The nigiri was disappointing. There's a page on the menu that explains how the restaurant originated, where the food comes from, how fresh it is, etc. In all honesty I was expecting better. The service was great nonetheless. I love this sushi restaurant, but yesterday I got two rolls - Romeo & Juliet and the Dandelion. The Romeo and Juliet was delicious as always, but the Dandelion tasted off (I have gotten this one several times before) It didn't taste right; definitely not fresh. I only had a couple of pieces and then threw the rest away and thank heavens I did, because eating it resulted in a very upset stomach. Very disappointed. We were excited to see another restaurant offer hamachi Kama on the menu so decided to try it out. Unfortunately they were out of that item so we ordered the sashimi boat, agedashi tofu, salmon skin hand roll, bento box and a crispy rice appetizer. The sashimi was very appropriately sized and fresh. There's a sushi roll included on the sashimi boat and there was a "special sauce" drizzled over it. It had the consistency of water so the sushi was incredibly soggy. The salmon skin in the hand roll was not crispy at all which was disappointing but they do give you a fair amount. It's one of the largest hand rolls I've ever seen. The teriyaki sauce was incredibly sweet and just tasted of sugar without any depth. Shrimp tempura was part of the bento box and it came with one shrimp. Overall, the sashimi was the highlight and we would go again for that but the other dishes were average at best. read more

We dined in May 2021. Service was four star, but food was pretty underwhelming. A large portion of the sushi menu has shrimp tempura as the primary feature, which seemed odd. Many also had cream cheese, which is weird thing to over do. We had three rolls, and tempura vegetables. Tempura vegetables were good. Our rolls were the Playboy roll and the Spicy crunchy tuna roll - both suffered from sushi rice that seemed over cooked or perhaps not freshly cooked. Both also were made less yummy by the sweet unagi sauce that was put on them. We ordered a spicy roll to balance it out, the Nagasaki, but it had the same rice issue and wasn't all that spicy. Service was fast. Restaurant was pretty packed for "reduced capacity" in a pandemic. Overall because of the food we wouldn't go back. Maybe we are spoiled in our hometown Seattle with Japanese restaurants and fresh fish, but this place didn't live up to its rating for us. read more

Saturday night family dinner was a success. This sushi joint knows how to take care of their customers. Therefore, we will be back. It is not always easy dining with two little kids, but the lovely and sweet kimono clad ladies working that night sure tried their best to make it a great experience. We were able to make a reservation and were seated immediately. The server first off brought out miso soups for the kids, which pacified them and in turn made our lives easier. We ordered a tasty special roll, some poke tuna salad, agadashi tofu, tempura shrimp, and some salmon nigiri. The poke salad was delicious and filled with lots of fresh ripe mango chunks. The salmon nigiri was fresh and the fish portion was large. The tempura shrimp was less of a tempura batter and more of a panko breading. Even though I was slightly disappointed, my son gobbled up every single one of those shrimp. They even brought out a complimentary ice cream dessert for the table. Service was quick and we were in and out in an hour. We even ran into some neighbors at this place. Apparently it is the place to go for sushi in the Cottonwood Heights area. The restaurant itself is small. The tables are mostly 4 top, but a couple tables were moved together to make room for larger parties. Definitely check this place out. read more

Today we traveled out of our usual Sandy/Draper grid and ventured to Midvale for dinner at Itto. The rolls were delectable, fresh, meaty and to sum it all up, tasty. Prepared to write a five star review, we couldn't. They had a few service misses. With that in mind, we decided to give them another try. We returned for dinner a week later and ordered the same combination of dishes. This time the service was flawless combined with the superb food - one can label Itto as "Sushi perfection"!
