Unfortunately they didn't have brisket at the time of our visit but everything else we got was wonderfully delicious. Because of what happened at Smoke Sessions, we'll be finding a new BBQ spot. My husband stopped by today and walked into a nearly empty restaurant. He waited about five minutes for someone to acknowledge him. After calling out and still receiving no assistance, he considered leaving--but stayed because he knows how much I enjoy their food. While he was waiting, another customer walked in. Suddenly, a staff member appeared and immediately helped that customer, completely overlooking my husband--as if he wasn't even there. For context, my husband is 6'6", so he's not exactly easy to miss. When my husband spoke up and asked if she saw him waiting, she responded by saying she knew the other customer and his order, as if that justified ignoring him. It didn't. From our perspective, the only clear difference between the two customers was race--and that's deeply upsetting. We will not support a business where basic respect and fairness aren't extended to everyone. To make matters worse, she later offered his food for free, which he declined. We don't want free food--we expect to be treated with dignity and respect, just like any other customer. If someone isn't comfortable serving all people equally, then customer service is not the right place for them. It's really that simple.
