When our favorite non-fancy Italian restaurant (Italian Bistro in Porters Neck) opened another location in Hampstead (Surf City area), we didn't have high expectations. We've been patrons at the Porters Neck location for about 19 years, and love their basic Italian dishes, salads, pizza, and always friendly service. Well, I just have to say that if you like NY/NJ/CT-style thin crust pizza, you won't find better pie south of the Mason-Dixon Line than you will at their new location. And if you haven't had a slice of their Greek-style pizza, you are missing out on something really special. Not sure what else is on the Hampstead location's menu, but am looking forward to finding out. (Tip: I always order the Greek pie with extra tomato sauce and ask them to make it a little crispy...Perfecto!) read more

We ordered a large Stromboli and fried raviolis and it was all tasty. The Stromboli was packed with cheese and chicken, and came with plenty of sauce for dipping but we would've liked a few more veggies. The only downside was the wait time. It took longer than we were told and they didn't seem that busy. I'd come back if I was in the area. It's a small place with minimal seating but also a patio. read more

Recently tried this place back in December and haven't stopped going back since. The food is great but the customer service is the best! We've had pizza delivered twice now & both times the delivery guys have been incredibly kind and personable! Solid pizza, and kind staff. Our go-to when we have an itch for pizza. Wait Times can be a bit long, but there's a great brewery right across the street, Surf City Brewing Company (SCBC), where you can chill while you wait. Better yet you can take your pizza over there and combine 2 great establishments, as they complement each other perfectly. I recommend the meat lovers, paired with the "Wave Catcher" Belgian Whit. We are from Cheraw SC. Outside eating was neat, clean, and enjoyed. My dad loved the spaghetti. The meatballs were soft and easy to cut through, especially for a senior citizen. I love this place! The service is always fast and friendly and the restaurant reminds me of the pizza places back in NJ/NY. The restaurant itself is small and cozy, but can be noisy. I'm thankful that my search for good pizza in the area finally prevailed when these guys moved into this space. Great food, great service, and great people. Italian Bistro has been my go-to for quality Italian food for almost three years now. The pizza is excellent, and gluten free crust is an option. The pizza, calzones, and stromboli are the best I've ever had, and I've lived in several states and countries and have sampled Italian food far and wide, but what puts this restaurant over the top is the fact that they also serve excellent salads. Some pizza bistros are more than happy to toss a few olives and a tomato slice on iceberg lettuce and call it a salad, but here, the salad is actually crafted as carefully as the pizza, which means a lot to me since vegetables and leafy greens are a must when it comes to my dietary needs. The Adriatic salad is so good that often times I come here just to get that. The small is really like a large, and the large feeds me for lunch and dinner. The staff is always friend and service is excellent, and that's saying a lot being that the Hampstead/Surf City location borders tourist central. The bistro itself is quaint and perfectly suitable for dining inside, and the exterior does have a nice seating area with tables covered with umbrellas, which is where I like to sit if I come here after I've walked the Surf City Bridge and feel the need for a breeze. read more

We have eaten here many times and have never had a bad meal. It is my favorite pizza in the area. The service is fantastic with friendly waitresses. Although the inside is relatively small, we have never had a problem finding a seat. We can vouch for a number of the Italian dishes, served here. read more

I am going to easily give five stars and recommend that you try this place! Don't be mad when you order and they tell you 45 minutes or even longer because it is well worth the wait from my experiences! SO YA KNO... Real good food is not fast food! My wife is very happy. And you know happy wife happy life !! Also she's gluten-free and has experienced absolutely no cross-contamination when ordering from Italian bistro! I generally order a calzone and plan on dinner tonight, lunch tomorrow and maybe even lunch another day depending on how much you eat. These things are filled/stuffed And absolutely delicious!! I'll add a picture next time. And keep in mind every time you put a topping in there they don't cut back on an included topping or added topping! They honestly add a topping for each one that you asked for! I have ordered at other places and the more toppings you have the less they actually give you of each topping well sometimes I don't wanna talk bad about other restaurants.! We expected a sit down restaurant and though there are tables inside and out you get your food and take a table if available. Gluten free pizza was delicious but the Caprese salad appetizer was outstanding as was my chicken Carbinara. When we return next year to Topsail Beach we will stop again here read more

My party of 3 came on a busy Friday night. The wait was reasonable at 30 min and we actually were able to leave and shop and get back before they called to let me know that the table was ready. I didn't see many reviews on this place so we were hesitant to try but this place is fantastic! They have a very friendly staff and the pizza tastes GREAT! I had the White pizza and my husband had the pepperoni, as you could tell, i did the one bite test, everyone knows the rules. No flop, crust has a nice crunch to it (but not too hard). I'll add a photo for context but my wife and I essentially got olive oil soup for a pasta dish. Looked awful and tasted even worse. We were coming home from the beach and decided to try Italian bistro being that we live near the porters neck restaurant. The two girls when we walked in were not only not friendly but rude.
