La Vida Restaurant - Seafood platter for two

La Vida Restaurant

Recently under new owners and decided to try it. One reason to come but definitely a great one,…read morethe seafood platter for two. The platter is huge, with oysters (probably the best item), clams, mussels, Moreton Bay Scallops, calamari with halloumi (probably the best non-fried calamari I've ever had), prawns (huge and very tasty), shoestring potatoes and a few other things that I don't remember but certainly enjoyed. Also, given their Tasmanian roots, some of the seafood is unique to La Vida rather than what you see at the other restaurants. This platter is definitely worth one of your evenings in Noosa.

Bugs. Moreton Bay or Balmain. Shovel Nosed Lobsters. The family Scyllaridae…read more I have loved these critters for ever. Up at Noosa Moreton Bay Bugs are a joy to behold, if you can find somewhere that be holdin' them. Problem is most places want to show off with my little guys and put them in a ravioli or turn them into some kind of foam or do something weird with them so that they aren't bugs any more. Not this place. It used to be called Lindonis I think - thats probably why I am the first to review it. Fact is its been here for twenty years, but for my 200th review I am happy to declare this place serves the best bugs this side of a dirty Chinese kitchen. BBQ'd with garlic and dill butter. Thats all. And eight, yep eight of the little bottom feeders! It takes very good chef to know that the produce is the star and not the cook. I remember an old mate once told me that in French cuisine the chef is the star and in Italian the food is the star. Here the bugs are the stars. We shared a plate of crumbed calarmari and a plate of veggies, which, because this place is classy, was called a 'stack'. The calarmari was sensational, even though it looked like the sort of meal you'd get at a suburban Pizza joint. I asked why they were so good and the owner told me they were fresh caught, marinated in kiwi fruit for just long enough to tenderise them but not so long as to cook them and that the crumb was a special Japanese technique known only to direct descendants of the Samurai Emperor Bugsansei. And I believe her. Left my phone at home 'cos up here you eat in boardies - your good ones for upmarket places and your old faves for the other places. Keeno has some photos which the kids may be able to upload to this review. I shouldn't even try or I will break something.

The short: Affordable food for the family, with good kids options and huge coffees…read more The long: The whole family went down to the new North Lakes outlet after it was open for a week. I had The Star beef burger. Wife had the trio of sliders. Kids had Pizzas. The beef burger was excellent. Juicy, juicy patty and plenty of bacon. Bun was a little bit over toasted for me, but still edible. The chips that accompanied this dish were crispy and well-seasoned. The wife's sliders suffered from over-toasting as well. She wasn't all that impressed with the sliders, and suggested to me that perhaps Briosh buns would have fared better for these little bites. That aside, the three burgers had quite different tastes to them and were served with crisp, well-seasoned chips. The Kids had BBQ based pizzas: one ham and one chicken. I had to swap some chips out for a few slices of Pizza from my son, who managed to finish up one of these monsters. The chicken pizza was the winner over the ham. And unfortunately the bases were overcooked again. I reckon the grill/toaster was cranked up a bit high the day we visited. I passed on the feedback to the manager, who graciously accepted the feedback. It's early days for this outlet so I'll be back to try some more items out.

Oh for sure you've got to get down to Bella Sicilia as soon as you get a chance. There are many…read moreindependent Italian/pizza restaurants and takeaways in Brisbane but this one could possibly be the best around. Well, from my experience of pizza places, it's definitely the best on the north side as far as consistency goes. If you're a fan of pizza, this place makes sure, whatever your expectations are, that they are met and surpassed. What makes the pizzas so good starts form the base. You can tell its home made, its crispy and not a victim of being dough overloaded. The sauce is thick and flavoursome and the toppings are exceptionally generous without becoming overkill. As simple as it sounds, my favourite pizza from Bella Sicilia is the traditional peperoni. It comes with some extra spices thrown on top with slivers of capsicum that bring out the saltiness of the meat. In reality, everything is great on the menu, trust me, I've tried it all and then some.

Our family are huge fans of Bella Sicilia and we order their pizzas at least once a week…read more Tonight we orderd a couple pizzas from there and found that the two pizzas we ordered did not have any base sauce on the ham and pineapple pizza and very limited sauce on the bbq chicken which made the pizza dry! Now i am big on customer service and believe in getting what you pay for so I called Bella Sicilia to give feedback on our pizzas and explained to them how dissapointed i was with the food as we are regular customers and usually the pizza is made well. They gave us the option to bring the pizzas back and make a new one but when each family member (7 of us) eat a piece each then there are only a few pieces left, how can you bring a pizza back??? Not to mention it is a Saturday night and i really shouldn't have to drive back to the shop because the staff cannot remember to put sauce on the pizza base. Very dissapointing! So i asked if we could receive a pizza the next time we come in and i am told ,"unfortunately we cannot do that ". I'm sorry but yes! ...as the owner you CAN do that. I paid money for a pizza that was supposed to be well made and came to your store to buy it when i could have gone else where.... very dissapointed with the customer service that was not offered from the owner of Bella sicilia.
