Yes, they're definitely pricier than most paints but once you've used them, you'll know why.

What an incredibly fun store to shop in for antiques, pottery, and paintings…read more This store is owned by a very nice owner who will give you the story on any piece you are interested in. You can also negotiate on most items. I have been wanting a piece of pottery from really any tribe of indigenous people for a very long time and was able to acquire one for a reasonable price at this shop. It was made by the Acoma Pueblo tribe in New Mexico and the process included burning horsehair into the pottery to make extremely sleek design patterns as you can see from the pictures uploaded. My girlfriend ended up getting a woodblock painting from a Japanese artist of a Dojo. We spent over an hour the first time we came here and returned to the store the next day to acquire the pieces that our heart was set on. I really cannot state any negatives on the store except will note the store can get very hot so if you are driving here perhaps leave your coat in the car. As always people SYOY!!!

Small - packed with paintings, jewelry, glass modern and and antique, pottery, a lamp or two - kitschy cool stuff and the owner David was kind and helpful - he answered all our questions and was super cool. He had a huge collection of Christmas (one of our favorite things to shop for year round) and we left with some super awesome treasures. Someone must have had people like me in mind when they came up with the concept for this store. On to the fashion! I found some beautiful (although pretty high-end) tees by designer James Perse as well as some local style, like Vancouver's own Shereen De Rousseau's gorgeous cross-platform jewellery.

If you love furniture with history, and an extraordinarily unique twist, this is the place for you…read more Salman Ansari has been in the antiques business for 10 years, starting out in West Vancouver and moving to Granville Street after his first (much more spacious) location was destroyed in a fire. Salman specializes in antiques from the turn of the century up to the 40s, especially Indian antiques. And oh my god are they gorgeous. I had no idea the unique niche created by Europeans keeping up with styles like Art Deco, Art Nouveau, etc. in the subcontinent. Because these were styles from the west made by eastern craftspeople, they have the same overall aesthetic (for Art Deco - the flowing lines, motifs, materials like ebony and teak) with a twist (those motifs can be different, like lotus bursts rather than sunbursts, or stair step motifs, as well as higher quality woods because of the unique, humid conditions). My first experience with Verandah - my husband and I passed the store front after closing and spotted two fabulous teak, Art Deco chairs. We came back the very next day to buy them. They are original teak (steamed into place), with woven seat and backing re-done in rattan. I am almost embarrassed to say what we paid. These pieces of furniture are not cheap. The original price was $1600 CAD for the pair, but we were able to bring it way down, and Salman threw in a pair of pillows to go with them. Salman was even okay waiting 5 days for us to pick them up. I think Salman really valued our appreciation of the chairs. Let me just say that, while these pieces are very expensive, I know that I will have a lasting relationship with this shop. Salman has great connections with craftspeople who can do any maintenance necessary. And, great connections with folks all over the world who source these kinds of gorgeous antiques.
