My pics don't do it justice, but the gyro wrap was amazing. I bet it would really hit the spot after a night out. Service was super quick.

Stopped for a late night munchies. One block from bourbon street. Ordered the Gyro Lamb Platter. The lamb was very tender and tasty. Rice was ok but I would go back again. The service was quick and food cooked to order.

Veggie burrito bowl chips

Small restaurant with just a few tables inside. Ordered a veggie burrito bowl it was good not as good as a chipotle or Moe's but something different! They don't have any vegetarian protein options here beans are it. With the very limited vegetarian options offered around New Orleans this is a good option!

Help yourself to plastic bags at Istanbul.
Tanya R.

Istanbul is the place to grab a late night bite after a wild evening in The French Quarter. Falafel, cheeseburgers, fries and all the plastic bags you could ever need. It isn't the best looking place and the food is just okay but when you're full of liquor and hungry, it fills a void.

Chicken gyro wrap is AMAZING, get extra garlic sauce
Lina P.

This place has the best gyro I've ever had! Boyfriend and I visited New Orleans and our hotel is right around the corner from this cafe. We've had so many oysters and cajun foods that I felt like eating something a little different late at night. With all the great reviews on here, we decided to give it a shot. I got the chicken gyro wrap combo (comes with fries and a drink). The chicken is very tender and the garlic sauce is AMAZING. It is light and runny, kind of like the Halal Guys white sauce, but has a lot more flavor. It's so good that I went up and asked for more on the side. The next day I came back for another wrap and asked the guy preparing it to just douse the whole wrap in the garlic sauce. I definitely recommend this restaurant and am still dreaming about the gyros after leaving New Orleans.

Food was kind of gross. But acceptable for a night out of drinking. Prices are a little high.

The employee that took my order was patient and explained what each topping/ sauce was. I chose lettuce, hummus, pickled turnips, curried cabbage, and pickled cabbage. It came in a 48 oz container and was enough for 2 people. The beef was flavorful. The veggies were fresh and crunchy. The only thing that was missing was a piece of pita bread. There is street parking. 10/10, I highly recommend.

I came in knowing I wanted a beef shawarma, but outside of pitas, hummus, and a basic shawarma plate, I'm still learning this cuisine. I wanted to try something new, so I asked a lot of questions. The two gentlemen behind the counter were patient, kind, and really helpful. The setup is beautiful. All the toppings laid out, fresh, colorful, and inviting. When it was time to build my wrap, I'll be honest... I didn't know what half of the items were and his accent was a little heavy, so instead of playing the "huh?" game, I trusted him to dress it for me. And I'm glad I did. When someone really knows their food and culture, I like to lean into that. I even recorded him making it because I already knew... if this hits, I'm coming back and I need to remember what went on it. I didn't get to eat it right away, but when I finally did... it was GOOD. Not spicy, a slight sweetness, well-balanced flavors, and seasoned without being overpowering. It felt like a full experience, not just something thrown together. Only thing for me, and this is personal, I would've liked my beef cooked a little less. It leaned more well-done, but it was still tender and juicy, so not a dealbreaker at all. If I had one suggestion, I'd say adding a visual menu with pictures and maybe spice levels for the toppings would help people like me who are still learning and want a little more control when ordering. I did notice it looked like shawarmas used to come with a falafel, and I was lowkey excited to try that for the first time, but I might've missed it or it changed. Either way, next time I'm definitely coming back for it. Overall, really solid spot. Clean, welcoming, flavorful, and worth trying something new. I'll be back.

Great option for vegetarians honestly. Falafel - comes with toum and the green sauce, very yummy, well fried Hummus with bread was also really good. Wish we had more bread though. French fries - I was skeptical when my friend recommended this but honestly, nicely salted fries and perfect vessel for dipping into all the various sauces. The vegetable plates were absolutely delicious. The seasonal vegetable they had at the time was broccoli with harissa sauce which was yummy and I wish we had more of, honestly. The kale and cabbage salad was so good and refreshing. I'm normally not the biggest fan of kale but this salad was just so good, definitely recommend a large portion to share with everyone. We also got pickled cauliflowers as well, very fresh. Definitely loved all the sauces and all the vegetables. Felt like everything was very flavorful and refreshing. The move is definitely to share a bunch of dishes with friends so you get a little of every yummy thing. I would say that the 7 plates (including 2 falafel and 1 large kale salad) we got were enough for the 4 of us to feel comfortably satiated.

Soup had a great depth of flavor with just a little kick of heat. Chicken was tender, flavorful, and came with plenty of tzatziki for dipping that beautiful fluffy focaccia. Loved the cabbage salad. Dining room is a little tiny so you have to be quick to grab a table. Really loved it. We are already talking about when we can go back.

We had a great experience and already have it on the list of go-tos when we are back in the city, as we return fairly often. First off, that bread. My gosh, I could have just sat for an hour and eaten it alone. I love that it just keeps coming too - we never once had to ask for more; by the time we were finishing up the pieces there, another set was delivered. Heaven. We had not one bad thing. The ikra was the surprise of the salatims/dips - so good - and the muhammara was excellent as well. That fried chicken hummus was perfect - so creamy and a bit of a different texture than most other hummus, but it worked. We tried the lamb kebabs and crispy halloumi - both of which were solid; however, when they say small plates, they mean small. I thought the serving sizes were a bit tiny. Nonetheless, we were full before even making it to the larger dinner plates and settled on the chocolate tart and knafeh cheesecake for dessert; honestly, I could have done without both. They weren't bad, but they weren't very flavorful to me. Definitely a 5-star, but if it wanted to be a 10-star, I would say a bit larger portions, better desserts, and more friendly service (he did his job but didn't really seem like he wanted to be there). Go now!

Order taken quickly at the counter: gyro wrap w/side of yellow rice, an order of Dolmas (8) and a soda. With tax & tip $34.88. Sat at a booth type table for comfort, only to discover we had to tip toe around the messy floor and I kicked away a ball of something rather than squish it. Husband said wrap was tasty but didn't remember they use a wrap instead of a pita for the gyro sandwich. (I had the gyro on our last visit.) Rice was good. My dolmas, however, were gross. I don't dip them in tzatziki, I typically like the taste. However, today the rice inside them was very, very gooey, as if they sat over the holiday. I ate 2.5 and threw the rest out. Someone came out to ask how things were but apparently didn't notice they were standing on rice. I didn't say anything about the dolmas, because by this time they were in the trash. Took home the remaining portion of the gyro, rice & tzatziki. Asked for a to go box, then asked again for lids for the sauce. Both times I interrupted someone playing on their phone, and the rest of the staff was hanging out talking behind the counter. Really wished they had taken the time to check the dining area.

The greens accompanying the fried cheese worked well with this dish. Our main entree was the beef shish kabob which came with a salad and hummus as well as pita bread. We had baklava for dessert which was delish. Two of us split the meal and we still had leftovers to take home. The ambiance is clean and sparse but they are waiting on furniture and artwork that will spice things up as well as a plan to make fresh pita bread in the dining area. We enjoy Mona's for its fresh homemade food, really nice owners, and its desire to continue serving New Orleanians when they had to pivot and move off Frenchmen Street. We will definitely return!
