There were a few Japanese whiskeys I had not seen elsewhere, so that's worth a look if that is a game you play. The wine selection, so far as I can tell, featured wine but did not stir my soul in its breadth or variety. No points were awarded or subtracted based upon this deeply subjective and somewhat arbitrary observation. So, we rolled around a bit, I grabbed a magnum of Deep Eddy, and we rolled out. I'd give four stars if the markup were more in line with the bigger stores, but it's a bit more ($37.99 for a big Tito's is among the less competitive prices I've seen in Buffalo). And the worst part was, they were whiny on purpose. They knew what they were doing and did it anyway. Hence the name of the business used to be "Intentional Whiny Ferrets." Thankfully they stopped selling ferrets (because Starlight and Mutu orchestrated a liberation operation and now Delaware Park is full of ferrets but that's another story. Except for that one ferret that moved to Italy and opened a start-up car company (Ferretari). This is probably the best wine & spirits store in the world. Says he that does not go to any wine and spirits stores anywhere, ever. Seriously, though, the prices are excellent, the service is impeccable, and as someone who has never liked wine, ever in my life, I can say that the Chardonnay that they recommended I buy for the party I was attending was absolutely delicious! The cashier insisted it was "New York State law" that they couldn't accept a vertical ID, which is completely false. NY State law does not require an ID to be horizontal as long as it proves you're 21. When I politely inquired another worker about it, and he was nasty and rude, offering no real explanation and acting like I was causing a problem just for asking a valid question. If this store wants to make up their own rules, at least train your employees to be polite about it. I ended up going to Caputi Liquors, where they properly followed the law and accepted my ID because vertical IDs are valid in New York State. I won't be coming back to Global Wine & Spirits.
