I went to Global Wine & Spirits today on my 21st birthday, excited to finally make a legal purchase, only to be wrongfully denied because my ID is vertical. The cashier insisted it was "New York State law" that they couldn't accept a vertical ID, which is completely false. NY State law does not require an ID to be horizontal as long as it proves you're 21. When I politely inquired another worker about it, and he was nasty and rude, offering no real explanation and acting like I was causing a problem just for asking a valid question. If this store wants to make up their own rules, at least train your employees to be polite about it. I ended up going to Caputi Liquors, where they properly followed the law and accepted my ID because vertical IDs are valid in New York State. I won't be coming back to Global Wine & Spirits. read more

I went to Global's grand opening of their new location, which is adjacent to their old location in the former Chuck E Cheese. It was a wonderful experience. This is my go-to liquor store, so I am excited that they opened a bigger location. The grand opening included appetizers, a dj, giveaways and about 15 tastings which cycled out with new people half way through the event. It was a great time. The store is clean, well-lit and wonderfully stocked. It looks like there is a great training room/board room in the back and they have a nice looking high priced bottle room. Great liquor store. They have a large variety of liquors and wines. I just discovered today that you can go to their website, order, pay, and then go pick it up. Super easy and user-friendly. I did that and it was so convenient I may just keep right on doing it after the order to shelter in place is lifted! I decided to go ahead and restock my home bar since it was so easy to order! We've been stopping in more frequently because it's been very easy to order from their website, and their curbside pickup is quick and very easy too. However during our most recent visit, we did go inside because we needed a wine recommendation. The associate who helped us was very helpful and made good recommendations (we were looking for a "simple white" and "simple red" for a wine class we're taking). The checkout process was also very easy. They installed glass barriers at the registers so they can scan your purchases through the glass for a contactless purchase. Overall we've always been impressed with their selection, but now their great service is shining through too. Highly recommend checking them out! read more

This establishment has a nice variety of low and mid range wines and spirits. They do have some offerings in the upper tiers as well but they mostly cater to the majority of consumers, and that they do very very well. Their prices are fair, the store is well laid out and it is easy to locate what you are looking for. The staff is friendly and helpful and they have people at the store Who have a decent working knowledge of their products. They have a good kosher selection for the Jewish holidays featuring decent quality kosher products. They are front end is well staffed so you will not be waiting on lines very long. They have good by the case discounts and lots of items on sale all of the time. This is better than your average neighborhood liquor store. read more

I'm not much of a drinker. I only drink maybe a handful of times a year. So take this review with a relatively-sober-grain-of-salt. But when I do have a need to purchase some alcohol, Global it is. There is plenty of parking in a well-lit lot. The store is spacious and well-organized. When an occasion arises, I'm usually looking to buy vodka, some kind of bubbly, and/or a New York state vino. And Global has all of those things, in clearly-marked sections. The checkout staff is always friendly. When I'm walking around rounding up my booze, usually at least one staffer will ask me if I need help. If you are looking for something specific, I'd say give Global a shot, simply because of the decent size of the place. They appear to stock a lot of options for the more discerning drinker. When the hubbs and I have a special occasion coming up and need to grab some libations, our future debauchery will likely continue to be supplied by Global. read more

Was driving by here today and figured I would stop in to see if they had any good scotch on sale. Selection of scotch was decent and they did have some good sale prices on a couple. What I also noticed was that their regular prices were actually pretty good, with some bottles being $10 cheaper than Premier's regular prices. Wine selection is not bad either. Ended up finding a nice Canadian Cabernet Franc from Château des Charmes on sale. Anybody that carries this gets props as it is one of my favorite wines. All in all a good place to get your booze, I'll be back for some scotch for sure. read more

Viva Portugal ! A tasting of Portuguese wines (3/15/12). Our wine tasting began with the candle-lighting of a nostalgic and familiarly shaped bottle of Mateus. We laughingly recalled the 70's when the spent bottles of Mateus and Lancers adorned our tables and dripped candle wax down their sides. Mateus - the first properly blended Portuguese Rose marketed in the U.S. - later paved the way for Portuguese wines born from over 250 indigenous grapes. Bridget O'Malley - assistant buyer and an education coordinator for Global Wine & Spirits - started our evening tasting with these five: 1) Gazela Vinho Verde - 2009 - White - $5.49* 2) Casal Branco - Terra de Lobos - 2009 - White - $6.99* 3) EA Red - 2010 - Red - $7.99* 4) Meandro Do Vale Meao - 2009 - Red - $11.99* 5) Follies - 2007 - Red - $11.99* * (Sale Prices) I want to say that there were 3 slam dunks out of this group (presented here in no particular order). The First, a very pleasant surprise - was the Gazela Vinho Verde. This young, straw-to-green colored, dry white tasted of melon and had slight carbonation with only 9% alcohol content. It was an absolutely refreshing fun wine that begged for a pairing with fish or - by panel agreement - sushi. It also paired well with Brie. The 2nd and 3rd were - we agreed - equally amazing reds in their own right with very different flavor profiles. The 2009 Meandro Do Vale Meao - a blended wine primarily from the Touriga Nacional grape - was a delightful dry red with low tannin levels that pairs very well with grilled steak but could also pair well with Salmon or Mahi Mahi. Not to be outdone the 2007 Follies - made from 100% Touriga Nacional grapes - had a clean, dry full bodied taste. This wine would pair well with a prime Filet or with smoked cheddar. A toast to Dan Shepard, Bridget O'Malley and the staff of Global for a successful tasting. There are many fine wine stores in Buffalo, most notably Brighton Liquor (which keeps me well soaked) and Premier (which keeps me well fed as well as soaked). Global is my neighborhood wine shop, and it's generally "acceptable". The wine selection is pretty pedestrian, though they carry an awesome Spanish Rose. They do not carry my favorite prosecco, but no biggie since I buy it from Brighton by the case. Points for convenience, and pretty large liquor selection. read more

This place pales in comparison to the now-much-closer Premier on Maple, but it's great for a quick stop when you don't want to get lost in the store for 20minutes trying to find a merlot. The service is ...eh, never too friendly but efficient enough. But I find that a lot in the bigger wine & liquor stores now. A decent selection and decent prices - and if you check in, you get 20% off wine (plus they run coupons all over the place and online - worth the little work for the good discount!) I've been here a bunch of times and I'm sure I'll return, but when I'm making a trip of it, I go elsewhere for a larger selection and somewhat better prices. read more

As soon as my partner walked through the door everyone in the store gave nasty looks including all the workers. He looks young since he turned 21 this past February. The staff was rude and unhelpful and asked other customers if they needed help when they walked in but not him. This is disgusting to treat legal customers as criminals just because of the way they look. If you are a young person or just someone who looks younger who wants to purchase alcohol there are better places in Buffalo to spend your money that won't treat you like a child/criminal. read more

You can never go wrong with a liquor store where people are always willing to help you find just want you are looking for. Its a fairly large store with a fairly large selection. As I am a frequent visitor of liquor stores (not that I have a problem :). I like going to the larger stores, since there is a greater possibility that they will have what I'm looking for (Balvenie 14 yr old). i was greeting when I walked in, and while I was directed to the correct aisle and shelf, I was chatted up with small talk. I walked to the aisle that had the alcohol of my choice only to be surprised by the owner hiding behind the aisle while profiling me (I'm African American by the way) He tried to act like he was looking at the football game on the television screen which was mounted on the wall over my head. They do wines of the month which are marked down and on the weekends they have people giving tastes of the wine so.you can taste it before you buy it. So on top of the cheap wine of the month price if you buy 6 or more bottles you get an additional 20% off. Buying wine in bulk is the way to go read more

Selection on my liquor of choice pretty good, but not surprisingly, the bigger stores have a wider selection (like Premier). However, this place consistently has better prices than Premier. They run good sales, which are advertised online and in the Buff News. I've also been offered a lot of assistance here, whereas at premier I'm mostly offered samples.
