They really took the time and gave us some historical background information on the city of Locke. The town is still very active and a great place to host wedding, concerts, farmers markets and even filming. The have antique stores, gift shops, a bar, a community garden, the entire town is a time capsule into the only town in America to have been built by Chinese for the Chinese in 1919. The is a dying gem b/c its mostly run and operated by people whom have ties somehow to the town. Although other ethnicities live there now and it's no longer a Chinese habitual it's still a very amazing part of the greater Sacramento County and its history

There's something really special about Locke. It hasn't lost its character and doesn't feel overly touristy. You can just walk around, read the historic markers, explore, and take everything in at your own pace. I think everyone should visit at least once, especially if you live nearby. It's an awesome way to learn about local history and experience a part of the Delta that still feels authentic and untouched. Definitely one of my favorite places to spend an afternoon.

Fun place for photos, to get an ice cream cone, have breakfast, watch the activity on the river and my favorite is to people watch and rate pictures. What I love about Walnut Grove is that it still feels like itself. The old buildings, the weathered doors, little homes with porches and flowers, longtime spots like Tony's. You can walk the streets and actually feel the history instead of it being turned into something polished and commercial. There's art in the windows, quiet streets off Market, palm trees dropping fruit onto the sidewalk, and that calm Delta air that makes everything slow down a little. It's not flashy and it doesn't try to be. It's just authentic. And that's rare now. If you like small towns with real character and history, Walnut Grove is worth the drive.

The walk to…read morethe cave is only about five minutes, but there's no shade so the earlier the better as the temps heat up. Inside the cave is about 50°. I have no issues with claustrophobia, but if you do there is one tight squeeze that might be a problem. Cash, my tour guide, turned off the lights (after asking my permission) and we experienced total darkness for maybe thirty seconds. It felt like two hours, and I hated it , but still neat and recommend trying if offered. Use the hand rails. They are there for your safety.

We were the only ones that signed up for the earliest tour that day and were lucky to have a private tour. The tour has informative history about the caverns with landmarks along the way. The most interesting thing we didn't know about is they have caving adventure tours where you shimny through holes and narrow spaces with a guide but our kids aren't old enough to partake. This was the first show cave in California and townspeople lived in them during harsh winters in the 1800s. There was a bar inside and a church and nails were even given to people to carve on the walls. Because of this there are signs of harm everywhere with soot, broken formations, and dirty coloration from human hand oils and even champagne poured on a rock formation. The caverns are huge and beautiful with some jaw-dropoing rooms. The walking tour is very safe though we loved the slight danger and claustrophobic feel of the Mercer Caverns. When you leave the shop has some cool historical items pulled from the caves on display like glass bottles, etc .. that are worth checking out.

Come visit Locke, a tiny little town within the city of Walnut Grove in the delta. There's lots of history here and the town is charming, been coming here all my life. It's the only town in America built by Chinese for Chinese. A great spot to stop while taking a leisurely drive through Californias Delta. If your hungry have a bite to eat around the corner at Locke Garden Restaurant or a drink at Al The Wops. There's even an old 1 room schoolhouse.

From picking us up at the airport, to driving us all over the Silicon Valley and San Francisco, the service was amazing. Edward, the owner, was our driver on the longest day 6:30am to 11pm, and he kept the group happy and met their every request--even a visit to Home Depot!? I walked in and was helped by a nice lady at the front, I told her I was looking for unique pieces to add to my collection and she selected this beautiful piece of Labradorite for me, and I'll tell you. The shine on that crystal was immaculate, I've never seen so many colors in Labradorite before. I also noticed this neat little shelf on the wall, sorta hidden in the corner. And it was filled with these tiny little jars filled with herbs and crystal, sealed with wax-- I had no clue what they were, so I asked about the little trinkets and she explained to me their purpose. Turns out they were "Spell Jars" custom made for various purposes. I ended up purchasing the Protection jar after she explained the ingredients and their various meanings. But yeah-- Long story short, it was a breath of fresh air seeing this place in such a small little town. I'll definitely come back sometime soon to affix more crystals to my collection, and potentially a reading too if I'm feeling feisty. But yeah, to summarize-- I'll be back soon, and I'm very happy with the quality, pricing and just overall experience.

Cosumnes River Preserve is a peaceful, beautiful place. We saw lots of birds, plus cottontails,…read moredeer, and even beavers. The big oak trees are absolutely breathtaking. The trails are easy, the signs are helpful, and the visitor center is full of fabulous displays and hands-on learning. Perfect for families. Be sure to stop by the visitor center to learn about volunteer days and upcoming events, which is a fantastic experience. We can't wait to come back!

So depends on the season I guess. Beautiful and green. Weren't too many people on a weekday around 10. Really nice paved paths and also a flat dirt trail. I was able to take my toddlers stroller bike just fine. I would come back! I would avoid summer though because I could see it getting hot! Bring bug spray!!!!!
