This guy tried to convince me something was wrong with my car over the phone. I just wanted my battery changed and he was convinced it was a different "problem". It doesn't matter if it is a different problem if I still need my 4+ year old battery changed. He didn't care that it was old, he was convinced it was this other problem. He wouldn't even let me set up an appointment to get a new battery installed and instead referred me to youtube videos on this other problem that he was convinced my car had. Some of the worst customer service I have experienced and it was just over the phone. I couldn't imagine what it would be like in person. I would not go here. read more

We are not sure how this shop/guy gets any stars at all (unless those are friends and family). Is not in the shop after noon, basically hung up on me after finally calling back. read more

And I'm not kidding, but the day my parents told me that I am 100% financially responsible for my car was the day the noise started. My car was making a horrible sound when I turned, and I put off bringing it in as long as I could before it became too much. After finding this place on Yelp, I made the call and planned to bring it in the next morning. As I drove it in, Brett (I believe) asked me if I had 5 minutes to wait, and proceeded to fix my car on the spot. For free. It turned out to be a loose plastic part. I went in with fear to be intimated, confused and over-charged and left in time to make it to work without spending a dollar. I can't guarantee you'll be so lucky as to have a free, quick fix, but I can only bet you will leave just as satisfied. read more

i have been going to Nick , the owner for 17 years and nothing but honesty has been conveyed. He has done a Very good job , fixing only what he said was wrong. There is never a surprise with the bill at the end of the day. He has even found cars for me . read more

as far as car repair goes, we all know the drill...its usually a headache, usually semi-rude service and you usually end up forking over WAY more than you expected/intended. I have been a toyota driver for years, as has my father, and we both swear by Nick at Isles Auto. He is a super nice guy, shoots you straight so there are no surprises when you pick up your car....he also does a very thorough yet efficient job with all things cars. I've never been disappointed by his work or service and wouldn't take my car anywhere else. read more

This place is honest, friendly, and responsive. The best things any auto mechanic can be. Local to boot. I had a windshield wiper issue and was told it might be spendy (Minnesota-ese for expensive). So I dropped by this place, the very kind mechanic (Jill) took great care of my car and me. It was a simple issue that I'm sure any other place would have gladly charged me much more to fix. They simply charged me $20 and had it ready to go fast. No doubt about it, this place rules. read more

Been looking for that trustworthy go to mechanic since the one I grew up with is far to far to drive to. FOUND! Love Brett and Jill (and Nick) at Isles. Straight forward no BS service. They work on the problem until its solved. No frills, no song and dance, just damn fine service. read more

I threw away $515 at this place. Brought my 2003 Mazda6 to Isle's at the end of December. It was running terrible in cold weather and wouldn't start once it got below 15 degrees. I ran diagnostics and got a couple of readouts about my camshaft sensor, PCV pipe and other electrical issues. They believed replacing the camshaft sensor and PCV pipe would fix the problem, so reluctantly, I said go ahead. It didn't help at all. I paid my $515 bill, barely got my car started and got a second and third opinion. Both confirmed there was no way the camshaft sensor was bad and that I wasted $515. My car is now at the Mazda dealership because I have no faith in smaller shops. read more

Gave this place a shot because of other reviewers. Wasn't disappointed at all! When in because of a clunking noise on my old Honda. One of the mechanics named Tony rode around the block with me in hopes of identifying the problem. I did my research beforehand and I was pretty sure my sway bar needed replacing. He checked it out on the lift and simply greased it up for me, did a little tightening of the bolts and WALAAAA. No more clunking noise. Don't know the owner, but if all his mechanics are like Tony, I will definitely be bringing my car back. Much appreciated! read more

Yet another great service from Nick. I had gone to the Honda dealer because it was near my work and they wanted 1500 bucks to fix my rear brakes and put a new muffler on. Nick did the brakes for a third of the cost and connected me with a good muffler shop that did the muffler for half that cost. He even helped me out by talking to the muffler place and helping me navigate that. I'll be going back to Isles from here on out. read more

I originally got an estimate from the Honda dealership, after 3 hours of waiting, for $950. Well that's about half the value of my car so I went to get a second opinion. Based on what Honda had said the problem was, Brett estimated about $350. Awesome! Well they get it up in the air and it turns out that Honda didn't even have the right repair planned(and I'm honestly not sure they even looked at it, their repair was the same as my guess). I could have paid them 1k to not fix my problem. Nick showed me exactly what the issue was, and showed me the perfect looking part Honda claimed it was. Nick immediately sourced and drove out to get the part to fix my car, and had me on the road with a working vehicle in about 2 hours, less time than the dealership took to give me an estimate for the wrong thing. The dealership may give you free coffee and cookies, but Isles gives you competent repairs. Also it's right next to a coffee shop, so I can go ahead and use the hundreds of dollars I saved to buy the coffee and cookies myself. read more

My car broke down a few blocks away from Isle Auto Repair, and I am so glad they were nearby! I needed a new alternator. I called the shop at 8am, got my car in by 9am, and after confirming that the alternator was the issue, the guys at the shop were able to get a new alternator ordered, received, and installed all before noon. The price was extremely reasonable, too (way less than I was expecting). I highly recommend this place! Thank you! read more

I dropped by to ask about a funny noise my car was making, didn't have an appointment. The very helpful guy working there not only fixed it right away but didn't charge me. Thank you so much! read more

Brett and Nick are awesome. I drive a 2000 Toyota Echo and let's just say it has seen better days, but I need to keep it in good repair for a couple more years! They gave me great advice and took notes on things they noticed that I may want to get fixed in the upcoming months. They were honest and provided quick service. read more

Don't look any further if you need someone to diagnose, trouble-shoot, or fix your car's problems --any car from fancy to 16-year-old hand-me-downs that are still chugging along at 130,000 plus miles. Nick has rescued our old car many times and kept the newer one happy. These guys are as honest and hard-working as they get. Have relied on them for nearly 20 years. read more

Had a fabulous experience today! Yesterday my sisters car started making a terrible scratching sound when turning a sharp left. We wanted to head out on a road trip today but we couldn't ignore the sound. Stopped by Isles Auto Repair. They were amazing and immediately squeezed us in for a drive around the block to hear the sound. Initial thought was it could be the breaks but upon putting it up on the lift found out it was a piece of metal that needed to be bent back. They did it quickly, sent us on our way, and didn't charge. We'll be back for many more services in the future!! read more

I was referred to Isles Auto repair by my brother because of their honesty and loyalty. And he was totally right! My power steering locked up on the highway today which gave me great concerns. I called up Nick and he told me exactly what to do and what was wrong with my car. I will DEFINITELY be taking my car here for any problems in the future. Thanks Nick! We need more people like you around here. read more

This place is great! Their prices are very reasonable, they are fast, and do great work. This is now my "go to" mechanic in the Twin Cities. Thank you! read more

I would not take my car to anywhere else. Nick does an amazing job at half the cost of other mechanics. My husband and I have both taken our cars to him multiple times and left very happy and at a fraction of the cost. He is to the point and honest about everything that needs to be done. And if there is something wrong, but doesn't need to be fixed immediately, he will tell you. He shows you exactly what the problem is and how it can be fixed. I hate having to drive to uptown to get my car looked at, but it is totally worth it! read more

I called them to get an estimate. The man who answered was very open and honest and even gave me a number to another shop to get another opinion since he felt it may be something that i didnt need replaced. I appreciate honest shops like this. Rare to find these days. read more

This was my first visit and has been the best experience at least that what my 7 year old car says :-) . I had received quotes from different shops to replace brake drums and shoes on my car which I felt were outrageous and after a friends recommendation I called up Nick and set up an early morning appointment to get a quote but I also needed to get this fixed ASAP as it wasn't safe for me to drive with failing brakes. Dropped my vehicle at Isles Auto repair and Nick said he will call me after 30 mins as he was working on another vehicle . So went ahead and had breakfast and coffee (There are some really great places nearby) and was waiting for a call to know how much money would be less in my bank account , 45 mins later dint receive any call so went back to the shop to see whats the status.... To my surprise Nick had already started working on the car and said it should be fixed in another 45 mins my obvious next question was whats it gonna cost me and to my surprise Nick quoted a little more than exactly the amount that would have cost me to order parts from NAPA,AMAZON or CERTIFID and fix the brakes myself of course I don't have the expertise or right tools to do it. This just shows Nick loves to work with vehicles and knows whats best than waste time. I have never seen an Auto technician so dedicated to his work and he also took the vehicle for a test drive himself and made sure everything is in proper order. I left with some good advice on how to maintain my vehicle as it's getting old but is in great condition. I would definitely recommend Isles auto to anyone I know Thanks Nick & Tony...... Yours will be the only Auto care center that my vehicles will drive in to get their medicines. read more

Excellent service. Honest and reasonable pricing. I brought my car in for a 60k mile check up and because my check engine light was flickering. Nick was clear about what I could do but explained it wasn't necessary, and charged me only $50 to evaluate my car. I will definitely take my car here again. read more

I called to make an appointment to have my car fixed. My door latch was malfunctioning and causing my car alarm to repeatedly go off. Instead of bringing me in and making an easy $100 off of running diagnostic tests, the guy totally diagnosed my issue over the phone and told me how to fix it myself. With that kind of customer service, I will gladly bring my car in the next time I have an issue. read more

Been bringing my ancient Subaru here for a few years now. A Subie friend recommended this place and I'm so grateful. This is a no frills shop. Never been recommended unnecessary work and often consoled that problems aren't as big as they seem. Nick even offered to find me used parts to save money. I do get a little chiding by Nick now and then for being clueless, but it's deserved. Seems like an honest shop and I intend to keep patronizing. read more

I took a car here about ten years ago. Hopefully, they have new owners since then. Otherwise, stay away! At the time I had a Ford Tempo. This car had a multitude of problems, but one thing it never had a problem with was starting. I used to joke that it was a bad runner but a good starter! Never ever had the slightest issue with starting this car. So, I bring the car in for one of its multiple problems and came back a few hours later to pick it up. They said that they couldn't get it to start and went ahead and replaced the starter. They had not tried to call me, and they did not have the old starter to show me what was wrong with it. They just went ahead and 'fixed' it and charged me somewhere around a couple hundred bucks for it. I was younger then and more naive, so I just paid it and left. Maybe as a young woman, I shouldn't have worn a cute outfit to the auto shop with all of its male workers there. Granted, this happened roughly ten years ago, so maybe they have a new owner now. If not, don't bring you car here! read more

I have been going to Nick at Isles Auto for 10 years. I have always been pleased with their service. When my replaced horn failed after six months, Nick replaced it (free replacement, minimal labor charge). His charges are much lower than the dealer's and often he talks me out of a repair if he doesn't think it is warranted. read more

Brett at Isles Auto Repair took time out of her busy schedule to assist me with a non-mechanical issue I was having with my scooter. I cannot thank her enough. I highly recommend Isles Auto Repair. read more

STOP LOOKING! YOUVE FOUND WHERE YOU SHOULD BRING YOUR CAR!! My 2000 honda crv had its driveshaft replaced here this week. My story: When it happened, I didn't know what was actually wrong with my car. I googled pictures of the underside of my car and thought I just needed a U joint replaced. This usually runs about 300 on average. When I called Isles and explained what I thought was wrong, Nick told me that unfortunately with my kind of car you cannot replace just the joint and have to replace the whole rear drive shaft. He gave me an estimate (850) and was super knowledgeable and friendly. Now, being cheap and hoping he was wrong, I decided to have it towed to a place close to my house (steves auto on nicollet). A few hours later they called me and told me exactly what Nick told me (and he never even saw my car!). And then they said it would cost me 1200! No thanks! I was charged 40 bucks for them to tell me exactly what Nick knew all along. I had it towed to Isles. They ordered the part from California and had it overnighted. They fixed it up and only charged me 100 in labor. Ended up being 815 total. What a deal and less than the estimate! And he has a shop dog (such a baby too!) I can say that I was super impressed with how knowledgeable, quick, and reasonably priced he was. He saved me 400 bucks. I have and will recommend this place to anyone who asks. Seriously don't bring your car anywhere else! Thanks Nick! read more

This is a great trustworthy and quick turn around place. I have a VW, which are expensive to fix, and needed an urgent break work. These guys took me in the same day, quoted the best price around, and I had my car back within a few hours. I found my new mechanics! This is a no-frills place, but you know you are getting the best deal for your money without having to pay for coffee and amenities. read more

I was treated very poorly by the staff and will NEVER take my car here. Initially I was recommended to Isles so I called them up to schedule a time to bring in my car. I knew what service needed to be done and when explaining that I needed to replace the "Blower Motor Resistor" he treated me as if I knew nothing about cars. After he identified that it was the service I needed, he tried to charge me nearly double what the service cost. Thanks but no thanks... I brought it to the DEALERSHIP for HALF the price.... and they at least were nice. read more
