Delicious Island Fries
Ken R.

I honestly cannot remember the last time I had a meal at this restaurant. However, I will be returning sooner than later. My dining friend and I had the exact same thing - the big wave burger and french fries. We took a bit of order but we had constant attention by the servers and once we did order the food was brought out fairly quickly and it was hot and fresh. Unlike another burger restaurant where you get unlimited french fries they bring you a large bowl of french fries to eat from, which was more than enough to eat I even took a box home after I finished my lunch. The restaurant decor hasn't changed much in many years, but it was comfortable and an enjoyable place to eat.

Great service, excellent food & fun place to eat. Love the sandpiper sandwich. Tortilla soup is always great.

Fun place fun atmosphere friendly staff. We enjoyed our lunch and dessert. Friendly staff and very attentive not overwhelming. Plenty of seating and space for handicap guests which is a bonus. Food was terrific we all enjoyed everything we had. It was a return visit. Bathroom was clean.

Big juicy delicious burger, mmmmm!

What a nice surprise to find that Islands Restaurant still exists, I thought they all went away about 20 years ago. I used to love their Yaki tacos, fresh cut french fries and a bottomless passionfruit iced tea. My family and I found this location still open at Desert Ridge Marketplace right around the corner from the comedy club we'll be going to tonight. Really excited to try it, here's what we found. Service: the service was friendly and relatively prompt. No issues, everyone was happy and eager to help. Our waiter refreshed my passionfruit iced tea with a brand new glass almost before I even finished the previous one, that was great! Ambiance: it's just like the old place! And like every other Islands Restaurant you ever go into, consistency is extremely strong here, they feel the same, regardless of location, which is great. There are TVs all around with videos of surfers, it's a tiki hut feel, very tropical, surfboards on the wall walls, easy, relaxed, and comfortable. It's really cool that the entire place is all booths, there are no tables, so everyone is comfy and relaxed. It really does feel like a throwback to the old Islands I used to go to when I was in college, and I loved it. Food: i'm super happy to say that the food has also stayed consistent. I did, in fact, order the Yaki tacos, and a bottomless passionfruit iced tea, which is the best passionfruit iced tea I've ever had and they brought back great memories. Others at the table got two different burgers and the fish tacos. Fortunately, the burgers come with a basket of fries, each, which was plenty for sharing, and we found they were the same as they used to be, fresh cut in-house, skin on, double deep fried so they are crunchy on the outside and soft and steamy and delicious on the inside, this was a warm, happy treat that we all shared, and there were plenty of fries for four of us with only two baskets of them from each of the burgers. The fries were definitely one of the highlights. The burgers were large, cooked to the perfect temperature as requested, and they were loved with melting cheese and fresh toppings, and a soft, toasted, buttery bun. Nice! The Yaki tacos were very good, similar to what I remembered, and brought back great memories. The fish tacos were decent, nothing to write home about, they definitely needed a squeeze or two of the lime wedges that came with them and a bit of salt. Nice thing about all the food is that there is plenty of it, portions are large, and you won't leave hungry. Value: prices are pretty reasonable for the quality and quantity of food that you'll find in front of you. Our experience was definitely worth every penny we paid. Overall: this was a great experience. Don't expect it to be a five star, executive dining experience, but rather a relaxed, fun, easy atmosphere with strong service and good food at a decent value. It's hard to beat that and we were all very happy. If there were more Islands Restaurants around town again, particularly closer to me than just Desert Ridge marketplace or in Glendale, I'd definitely go more often. I recommend Islands Restaurant and look forward to returning when I'm in the area.

The fries are fresh and perfectly seasoned! (I added ketchup!)

Husband and I had an early dinner and it was delicious just as the last time I visited a location in Las Vegas twenty years ago! Husband has not been to an Islands before and he really enjoyed it! The burgers are perfectly cooked and our server was fast, efficient, friendly and attentive and professional. Casual atmosphere where all Are comfortable.

Out on a Saturday afternoon with the hubs, always looking for places to eat. We were sat right away on this rainy day. We sat at a table in the bar, which was busy with college football games on the big tv's. The restaurant just finished up a big rush. Michael was a good server. I had and still love the Kilauea burger.

Kona pie

Had the Kona pie. I didn't know it was an ice cream pie but it was very good. Always great service from Zach and Michael.

Good atmosphere, nice staff, not too loud, and some food was great while some others were not. Biggest complaint was food coming out cold.

I've been to The Mighty Axe twice. Ambiance (4/5): This is part of what I love about The Mighty Axe. It has a cabin feel to it. Despite being in Phoenix, you feel like you've been transported to the mountains. There's some seating at the bar as well as some comfortable seating close to a fireplace. The barstools at the bar don't have back support (which is always a con in my book). The music tends to be solid. All in all, a cool spot. And a casual one at that. Service (4/5): The service tends to be friendly, laidback, and efficient. Just like I like it. Food (N/A): I've been on a liquid diet both times, and to be honest, I'm not even sure if they have food. Drinks (3.5/5): Everyone likes different flavor profiles when it comes to cocktails. The Mighty Axe has a solid list, though one that is not super appealing to my taste. Outside of their cocktail list, they have a full bar. The Mighty Axe, if the name didn't give it away, is both a bar and an axe throwing place. While I haven't done any axe throwing, I've checked out the area where it's located (the back of the bar). And there's even one outside on the small patio. Overall, one of my favorite bars on High Street (I live in Desert Ridge so I've frequented pretty much everywhere in the area).

We almost always end up here for dinner, especially before heading over to the Improv right nearby. It's a great place to relax, grab a good meal, and start the night. It's almost always busy, which says a lot about how popular it is. My best tip is to add your name to the waitlist online before arriving -- it saves a lot of time. Once you're seated, there are so many menu options to choose from, plus a huge drink selection and tons of beers on tap. My go-to meal is the steak bowl, and it never disappoints. The flavor is absolutely perfect every time. I also love that it's on their under-700-calorie menu, which makes it a great option when I'm in contest prep and trying to stay on track. Even better, it's already in MyFitnessPal, so it's super easy when I'm tracking my macros. The only thing I'd mention is that because it's usually packed, the wait staff can be a little hit or miss depending on how busy they are. Overall though, it's still a solid spot for a good meal and drinks, especially if you're spending time at Desert Ridge.

Wifey started with the strawberry salad which was very large and had a wonderful dressing. Easily could have feed two. Went with the lamb entree which was cooked to perfection. Chunks of beet on short skewers and wrapped with a large basal leaf. The beef itself was exceptionally good. For an entree, I went with the New York strip with a side of asparagus and off the cobb corn elote. The strip was slightly overcooked, I ordered medium and it came well done. Bummer! Asparagus was very grilled and tender. We wrapped up the meal with two pieces of Flan topped with coconut. Delightful ! Restaurant is a little unusual with respect to layout but very functional. The bad is in my opinion, how poorly this incident with sleeveless Steve was handled. I've been dancing over 35 years, I currently have a very large dance group in the Phoenix Metropolitan area called Honky Tonk Dancerz. I bring a lot of people to Foley Ranch to enjoy the food, the great Service and the ambience of the country western music and great dance floor to dance on. Over the past several months I've gotten a chance to get to know Steve and I find him very pleasant, very kind to the lady he dances with and respectful. He is a product of the new style of country swing, that you have your instructors teach this style on Thursday nights. In my opinion, there is a lack of instruction on Dancefloor etiquette and feeling the music, by that I mean, actually dancing to the music, not alongside of it. Steve dances as he was instructed by the instructors that you bring on the dance floor and teach new dancers how to dance. Steve dances exactly like all the other new dancers dance. If you have a problem with Steve and the way he dances, then you have a problem with all the other people that have been instructed by the instructors that you bring to Foley Ranch. And in regard to the comment that was made by Dan B, where Steve grab the arm of a lady and drug her to the dance floor, that's BS and that is never happened. Like other people have said in comment and in Steve's defense women can say no and that's their prerogative. If they don't like the way he's dancing with them on the dance floor then they need to open their mouth and tell him to take it easy I don't like the way you're dancing or I'm not gonna dance with you again. It's very obvious that Dan B and his group are not part of the dance community like Steve and many others that have commented in Steve's defense. Last weekend, I spoke with Garcia the floor manager and introduced myself and the concerns that I had when I heard about Steve being 86. I asked a lot of other dancers in the dance community, what their thoughts were on this. Some have already commented on here. And I feel it's my obligation to the dance community to do so also. I would be more than happy to sit down and speak with management and give my further thought as to how the situation can be resolved. Thank you, Bobby Honky Tonk Dancerz
