Food is nothing special and BOY do they love chicken. Their menu is almost exclusively served with chicken. But the frozen margaritas are good and I tried the frozé which was surprisingly good. I had the chicken beach bowl, I just wish the pineapple pieces were a bit smaller. They were so huge and hard to cut up so I ended up eating only a few of them. Especially since they were barely grilled they were pretty much raw. Also, I will always judge any establishment that just gives out a handful of straws without being asked. They have at least 20 straws at all the tables which I hate. If you think the edge of the glass is too dirty to put your lips to why are you even eating there? Stoping using so many straws people!! And stop having your servers hand out so many. We didn't use any of them and I know they had to throw them out which is such a bummer. read more

We literally just walked out of this restaurant after being seated for 10 minutes, ignored and then once able to speak to someone about whether or not we could get help and place our order and drinks she goes back to converse with the other hostess--no help, so we left. It's been a while since I've been to an Islands but got the Mia Kai Tuna Sandwich again. I appreciate that the pickles aren't mixed in because I'm not a huge fan of them. The hand cut fries are also really good. Simple food, made well and prices are reasonable. Service was really quick, we were in and out in about 45 min since we were just grabbing a bite before a movie. There are lots of TVs around the restaurant as well so we could watch MLB or NFL games tonight. Tons of free parking since it's located in a mall. read more

The environment fits the name perfectly, as you walk in you get an almost Macayo's level of decor. The space is very open and you don't struggle to walk through the building. The staff are relaxed but very friendly making you feel welcome and the service is quick and concise. Although it took a while for me to have my order taken the food arrived shortly after. I ordered the Blunami (medium rare), a traditional burger with bleu cheese lettuce, onion and tomato. The burger was cooked just right and the blue cheese spread was not too overpowering, I think the burger could've used a bit more onion to balance out the flavor and the bun was nothing special but the combination of patty and cheese made it. I had the longboarder burger and found it kind of bland and the whole wheat bun was blah as well. My fries were on the extra crispy side as well as extra small. The waiter was very attentive once he he started waiting on us-we waited at least 5 minutes for him to acknowledge us which ticked me off a little as he walked by us 4 times while waiting on others without telling us he would be with us shortly, which he eventually did.The 20 minute wait time ended up being 30-35 minutes. My wife had the huli huli crisp. She indicated it was juicy and tasty and her sweet potato fries tasted better than my island fries which is saying something as I'm not a fan of sweet potato fries. They were still practicing limited seating due to COVID-every other booth for the most part. They did have some idiots working there and no, not because the were or were not wearing masks, but wearing them wrong. Wear them or not, your choice. We actually tried Islands because (truth be told) there was too long of a wait at Yard House but I'm glad we tried it. The staff was incredibly friendly and even the manager came over to say hello and see how the food was (nice touch which was appreciated). I don't eat meat so I got the veggie burger and it was very tasty- not bland, soggy, or overly salty like some other veggie burgers. The margarita was very tasty (not too sweet or tangy, just perfect). The service wasn't only friendly but it was fast and we were able to get to our movie with plenty of time after dinner. We sat in the bar area and got a table right away on a Saturday night (probably around 7). There is also a patio section and inside restaurant so there are plenty of options. This is a great place for dinner before a movie or to grab a bite after shopping. read more

We did select there for dinner not knowing exactly what we were hungry for! We ended up with a mondo basket of French fries in some delicious seasoning, smothered in chile, cheese and onion! And while he had a specialty beer on draft, I had one of the best Mai Tais I have had in a long time! ( Possibly ever!) I have always loved Islands. Today I was specifically craving their chicken strips for dinner. As always, my cravings were satisfied and both my boyfriend and I loved our meals (he got the Hula burger). The staff is always amazing at this location and all very friendly. The only complaints I have is that my chicken tenders had a lot of fat in the meat and it took a while for my boyfriend and I to get refills on our drinks but nevertheless my meal and experience were still good! Great, laid back surfer/beach type of atmosphere, servers and managers are laid back and friendly, great place to take the family and relax. Tables are nice and big / lots of room. I take my family here once a week or so and the food and service has always been great, even when they are busy. Last night we got especially great service from our server Mikey as both my wife and I mis-ordered our meals, but he took care of us without any hassle what-so-ever. Servers are always on top of the drink refills before you are empty. Food wise - you can't go wrong with their burgers. My favorite is the Maverick's and my wife's is the basic Big Wave w/cheese. When not getting a burger, we get their Island Fish tacos - delicious! For kids that are picky eaters (like mine), the kids menu is great - Kraft Mac and Cheese, Cheese Quesadilla, burger, hot dog, grilled cheese, noodles and butter - choices any kid should find something they like. Its on of the few places my kiddos will clean their plates and have no leftovers. Desserts - we don't know, we are always too stuffed to have desert :) read more

It is SO SAD to see how far how fast this place has collapsed. They were closed during lunch a few days ago because kitchen equipment that had been giving problems that had been neglected for a week finally gave up and they were unable to operate. The place is uncomfortably warm and the only reason it isn't hotter is that an employee (who actually doesn't work there any more) lent them a couple of of coolers. Our server Mikey was a doll. He was generally attentive and delivered most items timely. My drink was delivered after our food which made no sense, especially since it was non-alcoholic... but they have some sort of system that doesn't always involve the servers. My gripe is that I'm charged for sides and not given accurate size descriptions. Their prices felt like they'd gone up and I was disappointed with my meal as a result. The ambiance isn't fantastic enough to warrant what I paid. Again, the server was nice, but I'm going to have to find a new burger joint. read more

They only offered a QR code menu which you scan with your phone. We found out when we received the bill that their prices were significantly higher (+40%). No warning from waitress prior to ordering. No complaints here! My friend and I were craving piña coladas and the wait at sand bar was 45 minutes (that's what we get for trying to get in on tequila and tacos Tuesday). The Islands was not busy at all and we were seated right away. We ordered piña coladas and an appetizer off the happy hour menu. Happy Birthday C. This is really C's favorite restaurant. For his birthday dinner it was a no brainer. Islands here we come. We arrived around 6:30 and there was a few minute wait. No biggy. Our server was Amy. She was awesome. Spot on, great personality, attentive. Kudos. C ordered his usual, Jr. Wave w/ Cheese ($5.70). The patty was seasoned correctly, cooked correctly and as in the past, C commented that it's one of the best kid's burgers in town. C had also asked for some pickles on the side. He ended up with 14 pickle slices in a little ramekin. Nice. K and Grandma C both had the Hawaiian ($10.59). A juicy patty with Teriyaki sauce, a big slab of Pineapple, oowey gooey melted Swiss cheese, lettuce, onion, Tomato and mayo. K gets hers medium and G.C. gets hers well done. Both were exactly how they wanted them. I ordered the Hula ($10.59). Basically, a mushroom Swiss burger with lettuce and tomato. I leave off the mayo and add Avocado ($1.60). Yummy. The patty was very tasty, nice medium rare, cheese was melted and there were a good number of mushrooms. Winner winner yummy Hula burger dinner. The fries, well, they were awesome too. Some of my favorite fries around. Amy brought us our refill when we asked and they were hot and fresh, straight out of the fryer. Yummy stuff. One of my favorite Desert Ridge restaurants. No, it's not fine dining but it's pretty good food. The restaurant is beachy but not overly done. There are enough decorations to set the mood of the theme. The service is outstanding. Everyone has a smile on their face and they are eager to please. The food is good. They have an extensive menu (sandwiches, salads, tacos, etc.) but the main event for me at this restaurant is the burger. Your choice - beef, turkey or veggie served on a white or whole wheat bun or as a wrap. Good service, good food, reasonably priced. read more

I've been a diner at Island's for a very long time and they have never failed me. You always know what to expect when you walk in the door. I love a restaurant that can be so consistent for so long! Some of my favorite dishes include their burger (always a good choice), their quesadilla, the tortilla soup (my favorite!!), the cheese fries or plain fries, the chicken tenders, their Shorebird sandwich (LOVE), their BLT, and their Yaki Tacos. I used to go to islands a lot when I was in high school and used to love the tortilla soup. I came back and had to have the soup! It was fairly disappointing.... Not very flavorful at all. A typical Saturday, my partner and I are headed out to lunch. He's starving so the most important criteria is a location close to home. Sadly this means Desert Ridge. We settle on Islands, my suggestion, his pick. This is a typical Desert Ridge Saturday at Islands, tons of kids with parents no where to be found. So here's how it goes: Me: Please seat us somewhere away from all of the children Hostess: UM... Me: How about that table in the corner they are cleaning off Hostess: let's see Partner: Geez, I'm hungry let's just sit down Hostess: okay, how about this table? Me: Uh...what about that table with eight little kids sitting alone over there? Partner: Oh, let's just sit here. So I give in and we sit next to a table of eight kids, screaming fighting, crawling over each other while their parents sat in the bar and ate. What a wonderful experience. Oh and the food. $30 bucks for a hamburger, chicken sandwich, chips and salsa and two drinks. The food was just okay, no better than I could make myself and I certainly didn't see any value in the atmosphere for the $30. Doubtful that we will be back. read more

I've been here more than a few times and will certainly continue eating here. First, the food. a wide selection of burgers (and other dishes). I'm a sucker for the Hula (swiss cheese, mushrooms). You can get a turkey burger or a veggie burger instead of the beef (I opt for the turkey which is very good). You can also choose a wheat or white bun. Both are very good. Your burger comes with fries or onion rings or veggies. The fries are just the way I like them, crisp on the outside, soft in the middle. The onion rings are OK but not great. Now the service. Outstanding! I think the average age of the servers is 18. I only mention this because if you think (like your parents did) that the next generation will be the end to civilization as we know it, they'll prove you wrong. They're all very friendly, knowledgeable and eager to see if everything is OK and refills show up automatically. read more

Islands restaurants are everywhere in So Cal, and they are all consistently good for a casual meal. I was happy to see that there is a location in Desert Ridge - nice and close to me! The service is friendly and attentive - you aren't left panting for a drink refill. My faves are the North Shore tacos and the Sandpiper chicken breast sandwich. If you are in the mood for some bad for you goodness, definitely try the cheddar fries. A plate laden with their fresh-cut fries just covered with cheddar cheese and chives. Served with ranch dressing, it is artery-hardening perfection. Who needs a fork!? Just use your fingers!! read more

This is a great alternate to a place like Red Robin: it's super casual and fun with pretty good food. I usually just get your basic cheeseburger and it tastes less dried out than Red Robin. It had been a very long time since I had been to an Islands and it will probably be a long time before I go again. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't for me. The service when we came in was efficient and friendly. We were told it was a 10 minute wait but it only ended up being 5. Drinks were brought out quickly, as were the refills, and it didn't take long for the food to arrive. The interior had a fun beach, surf theme to it with lots of plants and fake birds, and surfing on the tvs. The food...I had the Toucan chicken sandwich and my son had a basic cheeseburger. When I say basic I mean bun, cheese, and burger patty...he had everything else removed. Both came with a side of fries. The fries were these little chunks with the skin still on and no flavor. They just did not do it for me. When a teenager won't eat the fries that says something. My sandwich however was good. It had teriyaki sauce, pineapple, and lettuce. Messy but tasty. My kid said his burger was good. The service which started out so great fell apart towards the end. We sat and waited forever for our server to clear our plates and bring a bill. At one point we had to flag down another server to go find him. Dinner for two was $30.00. read more

I had the Maui burger with a veggie patty, whole wheat bun, and sweet potato fries (An additional $1.50 to substitute). Service was good. What a great experience! I had Alexis as my server and she was definitely on her A-game. Recommended the best plates and drinks, delivered food quickly, and constantly checked in and offered drink refills. The Tiki Tenders seem boring on the menu but are truly a masterpiece! Some of the best chicken tenders I've had in a LONG time. Seasoning was on point. My friend got the chicken wrap but replaced the grilled chicken with Tiki Tenders (Alexis's recommendation) and she LOVED it. I had to sneak a bite and I couldn't agree more...
