Kitchen with microwave, mini fridge, and mini human

As a frequent traveler, I have learned when I am at a good hotel and when I need to sleep with my clothes on. Wether you are traveling for business or pleasure, single or with a family, this place is definitely worth checking out. The rooms are well designed with engineered flooring for easy cleaning, and the location can't be beat. The only negatives are no continental breakfast, and a personal feeling that the hotel should have more of a nautical feel. However, the coffee is actually excellent and the private beach access is great. It is walkable to restaurants, shops and beaches, so even without a free breakfast, you will be ok!

Oceanside pool which is large and very nice.

We stayed three nights total during weeknights and really enjoyed our stay. The room was comfortable and clean and the hotel staff was friendly and informative. Being so close to the ocean was amazing having young children who couldn't walk far and we didn't want to need to carry. There is a ton of stuff to do around the hotel including parks, restaurants, shops, etc. I recommend staying here.

For an inexpensive oceanfront hotel on the water I was pleased. I stayed here before and enjoyed my stay. I would stay here again because of the price. The front desk staff was nice and the main building has amenities like a small office area, concessions, and some chill space. I was in the building closest to the water with a view of the trailers next door. However, if you walk outside you can see the water. The room itself was large, and pretty clean. The lighting is not very good in the living room space. The bathroom door does not close because it was built wrong (Room 204). The bed was very loud and squeaky. It was not the most comfortable bed either. The shower has barely any pressure but still usable. When I lifted up the coffee pot, a small German cockroach ran out. Those are the ones that are brought in by people. That creeped me out I only saw one. Lets get to the positives- I loved the pool area! There is public beach access and a great space to relax at the pool. The restaurants near by are great (especially Caribsea) and there is so much to do. Like I said, for the price- it's not bad. This is definitely not luxury.

My husband surprised me with a last minute stay during the off season. I'm grateful it was a surprise because my first stop would've been Yelp to check previous reviews. The Islander Resort recently renovated - in part. Recent reviews are super mixed, probably due to the changes being done in increments. We heard some parts of the hotel may stay as is. In any case, we liked where we were. We stayed in the High Tide King Suite, which was beautiful and clean. It includes a kitchenette with microwave, but no stove or oven - which was fine as I had no intention to cook. The suite was tastefully done up with ocean inspired decor. Really nice updates all over! The bed was super comfortable and again, cleanly made up. There is a parking lot in between the suite and the ocean, but it's a great second story view and a quick walk to get to the water (let's say 120 seconds). My favorite thing was opening the blinds in the morning to see what it was like out - gorgeous. Patio is spacious enough with cute high top beach patio furniture and low rocking chairs. I will say if you're super private, the patio separation wall only goes up part way so you could certainly say hi to your neighbor, if you want. If you don't want, sit in the low rocking chairs. There is also an RV Park right next to the resort. Didn't bother me but worth mentioning. Very friendly staff, close access to the beach, clean. When we checked in I mentioned how I liked how it smelled like eucalyptus, like a spa or something. The woman at check in told me they use eucalyptus oil when they mop. Smells good and better than toxic chemicals for her staff. I thought that was pretty cool. I was very happy with our stay! Be sure to check out the Goose Creek Growler Company down the street.

The staff was friendly but the rooms were filthy. For that price I wouldn't recommend staying here. We found a huge roach in the tub in the morning.

I took advantage of the heat this first week of HOTober and booked a stay at the beach. The lowest rate on my go to site booking.com came from the Islander and 3 hrs later I was in their lobby. There were some check in glitches, they had double booked my assigned room so I got a free upgrade. And if was not ready at check in time. Not a huge big deal but an inconvenience. The rooms are very big, suites really. See pics. The decor is recently updated. The pool is very large and ocean front with plenty of recliners and about 8-10 cabanas. Beach chairs are available for free but were locked up one of the days I was there. That was no bueno. There is no lounge, bar, restaurant on site. The hotel does market heavily as an event venue, and set ups were in place for an upcoming thing. I can see where if you are a non attendee it might feel like party crashing to be there in the middle of that. There are only a few rooms with direct beach access, balconies or patios. The rest open on to the parking lot and no view whatsoever. But for the price I would check it out again in the future, and ask if there is a big to do planned before booking.

Live Cockroach in Coffeemaker

We were in town three nights for a wedding. We arrived around 6 pm on a Thursday and checked in with Vicki, and we were greeted warmly and verbally updated on COVID-19 housekeeping protocol, so we were aware that we would not receive daily housekeeping, which was expected and totally fine. Shortly after checking in, I received a text from Vicki asking how the room was, to which I responded, "Great, thus far". However, after settling in, I noticed a few problems, hair in the ice bucket (we asked front desk for a new one and were told we had to wait til the morning), hair in the tub, and a thick layer of dust on the microwave, which tells me these rooms aren't being thoroughly cleaned BETWEEN guests. This is unacceptable and disgusting under any circumstance, but during a pandemic, it's downright negligent and irresponsible. Additionally, we were in a "newly renovated"room, and pieces of the wall were missing from around the door frame. There was NOWHERE to hang any clothes (not even a bar), which sucked considering we were in town for a wedding and had quite a few hanging garments. There was a dresser, however this was filled with pillows, blankets, and linens for the sleeper sofa. Now, this is where it gets good. We wake up the next morning, and my friend makes a cup of coffee and stepped outside to watch the sunrise. After a bit, I could no longer stand the sound of power saws outside my door, so I went to make a cup as well. When I lifted the lid to the water reservoir on the coffeemaker, I was greeted by a fully large and in charge cockroach. Yes, that's right--my friend had already drunk a full cup of brewed cockroach coffee and I was about to be victim #2. This is when we decided to make a complaint. Fortunately, the front office manager Ally, agreed that drinking from where a roach takes a dump is disgusting and offered us the only available room in the "new building". So, we checked all of our luggage for any hitchhikers and made the trek across the parking lot to our new room. The new room was much better. Family staying in other rooms had issues such as dirty toilets, mold, dirty stained carpet, no place to hang clothes, and yes, more nasty cucarachas (they've infiltrated the "new building" as well). The bride and groom stayed here after the wedding and also had a cockroach in their room as well. What a welcome!I would not recommend this property to a single person, family, or enemy. I am grateful for Ally hearing our concerns and providing an alternate accommodation, but this isn't something she should have to face so regularly. Before putting lipstick on this pig of a motel, it needs to be heavily exterminated and they need to train their housekeeping staff how to keep house. Also--whoever the gentlemen working front desk around midnight on Thursday April 22nd, was rude & unaccommodating when asked for a pube-free ice bucket. I've noticed the owner Barry frequently responds to comments regarding cleanliness and pest issues, with assurances that the concerns will be swiftly addressed, however, based on the continued reviews--I'm not so sure ownership or management are following through on these promises.

DoubleTree by Hilton Atlantic Beach Oceanfront…read more I used electronic check-in, though I did stop by the front desk briefly to ask where the restaurant was before heading over for dinner about 40 minutes before closing. I'll cover that experience separately. Overall, the hotel delivered a solid stay. The room--707, oceanfront--was clean for the most part and well-equipped with everything you'd expect: refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker (filter-style pods), ironing board, hair dryer, and a television. Lighting is excellent, with plenty of lamps throughout the room, and there are ample AC outlets along with modern USB and USB-C ports, which is a nice touch. One feature that stood out was the small table with two chairs. It made a big difference since I ended up bringing dinner back to the room, and having a proper place to sit and eat comfortably is something not every hotel gets right. The room itself was spacious with a balcony overlooking the ocean. The view was great, and the setup made it easy to relax and enjoy the beachfront atmosphere. There was nothing wrong with the room--it was a solid, comfortable oceanfront stay. Parking is plentiful and free, which is always a plus in a beach area. One thing to keep in mind for this stretch of the coast: it tends to stay windy. Be prepared for strong winds and quick temperature changes, especially if you're spending time outside on the balcony or walking along the beach. Overall, a good, reliable oceanfront stay with the conveniences you want and a comfortable setup for relaxing by the water.

Fast forward this a few years…read more I've probably stayed here on five or six occasions during summer, fall and winter. Like many have said, and it's the truest thing you can say about this hotel, you cannot beat the location and there is nothing in the immediate area which compares to it in that respect. Out the back door and there is the beach along with plenty of parking. Good/Bad/Ugly Time: Good: As mentioned prior, you cannot be the location. Having the balcony door open at night to the sound of the ocean is nothing short of perfect. When they have their outside beach bar open that's also not too bad for the view and the ambiance. No issues with any of the staff here over the years. If you're so inclined you can walk to the bar across the street (The Wheelhouse) or On the Rocks or slightly further is a very well stocked Dollar General that's only a few years old. It's also a short drive to The Food Lion, a McD's, ABC store and a few others. The key is to ALWAYS watch the hours of operation or else you will find out the hard way that McD's will close at 8pm or the better of the two pizza places in town is only open 4pm-9pm. It's not the end of the world as there are far more choices over in Morehead City. Bad: Yeah, the place is definitely dated. I believe it started life as a Sheraton in the late 80's and I think the AB area and the hotel have taken two fairly direct hurricane shots within the past 10-ish or so years. Am I willing to overlook the elderly quirks (although they are on board with Hilton's new streaming TV requirement)? Yes, without question but if you come expecting new/hip/modern, it's not happening. Also, plenty and I mean plenty of people are smoking various things on their balconies or in the hotel's outside courtyard area. If that is going to bother you.......I can't help you on that one. Ugly: Most of the food they serve simply isn't very good and/or it's not uncommon to find they are out of various menu items from their small menus or drinks from their small drinks list. If you have the F&B credit to play with, I guess do what you need to do but aside from maybe a burger at the outside beach bar, don't do it. Overall, whatever, I like this place because I love the area. It's truly a beach/area for beach lovers who want a quiet/pure/simple experience that's 180 of the crap in Myrtle/OCMD or anything in Jerz. Overall, God-willing, I'll be back.

This hotel is located off of a highway overlooking a trailer park at the ocean. You see golf carts driving by and a glimpse of the water. The lady working there was very friendly after I struck up a conversation. What I despised about this place is the fact that their fitness room opens at 8am. Why in the world would it not be open earlier than that? Most people have to be at work at 8 and work out at 530 or 6 am. So, that was a big miss. They do have a pool which was actually pretty nice but don't do as I did and expect their to be pool towels outside. You must bring your own towel. They serve breakfast from 730-9 and it was a continental breakfast plus a circle egg patty and sausage. The hotel has rusty doorknobs and doors and definitely needed some TLC. The chair in the room for the desk to work on was one of the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever sat in. The shower was a very cheaply made shower. The bed was comfy but the way they did the sheets was weird. Nothing was tucked in so it came apart. The room was very clean and the TV had a lot of stations So if you are looking for a reasonable hotel for the family and not looking for luxury but not a Motel 6, this is your place. It's a bizarre time to be reviewing most things because Covid has obviously thrown off the "normal" into many shades of grey. With that said, take this one with a grain of salt as it's only a brief snapshot in time for how things are now. In another month or two, who knows? Let's start with the good: The location to the beach couldn't be any better. Just a short walk and you're there. The hotel was sold out or near it every night we were there yet the beach area directly across the street was never busy. The same as last year with seeing the same families and people every day more or less set up in the same spot very spread out from each other. All Covidly perfect. Not so good: Hilton Honors benefits at check in are still a no here, just like last year. The beds are extremely squeaky. Any sitting/moving = high pitched squeaking. The hotel is not following the new Hilton/Lysol cleaning protocol that started a few weeks ago. No stickers on the room doors or verbiage anywhere on property. I was told at check in that if you want your garbage taken to have it in the hallway early in the morning so that housekeeping could grab it and that the only way to get fresh towels or any bedding was to stop a housekeeper in the hall with your old stuff or bring your old stuff with you to the front desk since the hotel was running extremely low. Is the hotel's linen par really that low? Is the smell of that much garbage-food in the hallways overnight a good idea? Our room was dusty/sandy when we checked in and the a/c unit was filthy. No way were either cleaned thoroughly in a while. But since there was no daily housekeeping and with the hotel being sold out the day we checked in... If you want a hotel that has a great beach location that is out of the way and quiet, this is it. Past that, things were on the dirtier side in general and I question any place not following the new cleaning protocol. Time to give this one a rest for a bit.
