They also have an excellent tailor and a great sale room in back. Very current clothes and chic--which is expensive. Maxwells is a destination boutique that draws from far away and has a loyal clientele. That it is near tee shirt shops does not make it bad--just surprising. I have had many great purchases there and love it.

I completely disagree with Aretha B's post above. Yes, the shop is expensive, and yes, there are a…read morelot of tourists there. But, it's on Martha's Vineyard - everything is expensive, and it's full of tourists. So you should expect to find that at Menemsha Blues just like you would anywhere else. It is similar to Black Dog, but not as big, and not as ubiquitous. I also disagree with characterizing it as a "chain." It's a local store that has several physical locations in the area. As far as their products: the quality of everything they sell is excellent. We bought several clothing items from them, and they were worth every penny. My husband seriously considers a trip back just to buy more of the polo and button-up shirts there because he loves them so much (and you can't get most of the items on their website, which is the only slight issue I have). He routinely gets stopped while wearing their items, because people like the small fish logo and it's so unusual, and they want to know where he got it. By all means, go to Menemsha Blues, and the original store in Menemsha is quite charming. If you dislike paying for quality items or buying from a store that has several locations in the area it was founded, I guess you can skip it, but you're doing yourself a disservice.

Not just because there's so much stuff, but so much stuff I would actually want to take home! Wonderfully curated pre-loved items. Trinkets. Toys. Furs. Vintage clothing. traditional Asian clothes. The store was 50% off and I didn't make it past the register. I was enveloped by the jewelry options. The employee saw me pick a certain ring and even pulled out similar ones in different sizes which was so thoughtful. Not as cheap as thrift stores would be but it's a curated vintage store so the prices made sense AND at 50% off, I got my earrings and a ring for $30.

I packed very little for my trip with the idea that I would get a ton of T-shirts while I was there so that I could wear and later wash and give away (that's the secret to traveling) and this shop helped me with that mission. They had a great selection of styles that were fresh and new, and high in quality. Not your outdated ironed-on logos. Located in the middle of their downtown, this was the only shop that didn't hurt my wallet. They had other knick-knacks other than clothing. The lady that runs the store was very nice and fun to talk to and had great tips on how to get around the island. Loved it.
