A family member of mine got into a small accident with one and we were charged a little more than what was listed via e-mail. The difference was never explained. It wasn't a huge amount, but enough for me to question a few things. If you rent here, skip the insurance. We rented 2 scooters over the 4th of July weekend and I think this is a way better option in exploring the island compared to a car. The delivery to our timeshare was on-time and they granted our request for an early pick-up due to an early flight we have to hop on to. Process - very easy rental process. Kyle had us booked for the next day within 5 minutes. Can't argue with that when you're rushing to go grab your Dole whip. Day of was great. My wife has little to no riding experience and Kyle took the time with her in the parking lot to ensure she was comfortable before going out on the road. Just returned from our honeymoon in Maui. We had big plans to tour the island on scooters, and Island Motion managed to convince me that they could help make that happen. Alas... First off, these guys are terrible at returning calls and sometimes even ignore text messages (even though that's they're preferred contact method). Unfortunately, I overlooked this because of all the glowing reviews I saw on Yelp. The scooters we rented were delivered over 2 hours late which totally ruined our plans for our first day on Maui. They were also chalked full of mechanical problems. After the first day of riding around, one of them had a dead battery and a solid oil warning light. The brakes were unresponsive and squeaky on mine. The blinkers didn't work on my wife's. We were told they had full tanks of gas, but both were empty. The helmets they provided didn't look like they'd ever been washed, fabreezed, sanitized, or anything. That's just getting started... We were given a 10 pound chain and a padlock to secure the scooters together. We were too embarrassed and afraid for our lives to ride them to Lahaina so we stuck to the northwest area. Initially I wanted to ride to Hana on them, but as soon as we saw them me and my wife started making bets whether they could make it out of the parking lot or not. The best time we had on these scooters was when we finally just gave up and laughed at how ridiculous the whole thing was. Since the late delivery was their fault, I asked Randy if we could receive a break on the daily price (after all, half of the day was gone already) and he ignored that request and never even offered an apology. If you hear anyone recommend taking a 50cc to Hana, be very suspicious. I had no idea what that highway was really like; I simply took the Island Motion guy at his word that it would be a cakewalk. I own a 600cc sport bike and I ride a lot...but I would never take anything with 2 wheels on that highway. The road itself is awesome, but the other tourists and locals make it treacherous. Maybe you'd fair better, but I suggest looking before you leap. Same goes for Island Motion Scooters. Don't rent until you've seen the merchandise, and certainly don't count on a timely delivery. read more

THIS IS LONG-BUT PLS READ PRIOR TO RENTING Our first trip to Maui was THE BEST! We decided to rent scooters instead of a car-BEST decision ever JUST NOT WITH THIS COMPANY! TAKE YOUR OWN PICTURES OF BEFORE AND AFTER! GET THE ENTIRE SCOOTER, LICENSE PLATE AND EVERY ANGLE POSSIBLE!! PLEASE DO YOURSELF THIS FAVOR! The first day, we broke down. Although our replacement came with in a half hour-and we ate our lunch on the side of the hiway instead of the state park, Robert, the owner, was clearly annoyed. According to him, the scooter's belt broke. Not our fault, but he made it clear it is not normal, that the last time it happened it was 4 months ago etc. NEVER ONCE apologized-just wanted to know how close we were following. Fast forward to the day for them to be picked up. Our agreement said 9 am. However, they were delivered later than that and Robert had be put a different date on my agreement because I wasn't able to process it on line correctly. We had gone around the corner to the Sugar Beach Bakery and came back. I called Robert to find out what time they were coming to pick up and he stated they had already been there. I received no text or no phone call-and he has my number. So he says he will be there shortly. My niece is getting married and her and other family members are there to pick us up to go with them to get ready. So we lock the tires of the scooters as instructed. Lock the helmets in the seat of each scooter. We place 2 of the 3 sets of keys in the seat and lock them in. I place the last set under the fender of the scooter and send Robert a picture and explained why we couldn't wait. The scooters are picked up with in 15 min but he sends me a message saying that he isn't responsible for theft. Right then-I should have demanded to go back but had the wedding as my priority. Robert has the ignorance to charge my card AND THEN try to say a scooter was damaged! He says he has before and after pictures and sends them to me. No proof that is the actual scooter we had. He replaced one white one with another white one when we broke down. The before pictures are nice and far away. But the after pictures are up close, so who knows where they were taken and if it even the same scooter. I am fine, I didn't run into anything and if I did, I would be glad to accept my fault and I certainly would have liked to see the proof of charges being that it was just under $500! I have NO doubt Robert saw it was myself and my daughters and decided to take advantage of us. My husband and son were home. And I will also mention that we signed ONE WAIVER. My two daughters didn't even sign theirs and my one daughter was not even verified against the license provided! With my right hand on the Bible, I can 100%, truthfully and faithfully say that under no circumstances, did I damage that scooter. Also, Robert has my account on a reoccurring charge. He claims "I don't even know where that button is" to do this. That is the status it shows at my banking institution, but the crook expects me to believe him! My bank was my first step and my lawyer friend was my next. The waiver is filled with loop holes, just as any waiver. I will not stop at this review to protect others. Robert is the only person i met in Maui that clearly doesn't take the native friendliness serious. In our one conversation he said I was talking over him and said "Has anyone ever told you to SHUT UP?" And this is the crook that has my account on reoccurring...... read more

My boyfriend and I rented scooters from Garret twice while we were in Maui (we took a couple of days on another island, rented scooters from him before and after our side trip). He was incredible. He drops off and picks up the scooters at your choice of location, which makes it extremely convenient. He takes the time to walk you through the basics of riding (we ride motorcycles, so this part was pretty short for us), and then takes it a step further to tell us about the unique quirks each scooter had (it's part of the territory when you ride 2-wheeled vehicles, they're all a little quirky in one way or another!). But Garret himself made the experience amazing. He was friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable (he gave us some recommendations on some of his favorite places to eat and drink, which we tried and loved), at one point he even offered us a lift to the airport! My wife and I rented a scooter to ride the road to Hana. First of all as far as I'm concerned this is the only way to go. Soo much fun! Our scooter (Honda 150) was quick, smooth and easy to ride. Garrett was reall cool, very acomadating, and got us a scooter exactly when we wanted it and delivered and picked it up from our hotel. He even gave us a map, pointed out spots to hit on our journey, and gave us his number if we had any questions about other stuff to see as well (even after the scooter was picked up). Island motion was very affordable and convenient. From what I understand they are one of the only scooter rental companies that will allow you to take your scooter on the road to Hana or that far. We put 187 miles on our scooter! I would say we definitely got our money's worth. Only negitive thing that happened was our fault. We lost track of time, and had to ride the road to Hana back in the dark... in the rain... I would NOT recommend this. read more

My wife and I stayed in Pa'ai for a week and rented 50cc scooters. They ran great and we only spent about $8 total on gas for both bikes. Garrett is an awesome guy! He made us feel super comfortable and gave us a great deal for the long term rentals. If you are staying for a more than a couple days I suggest renting scooters long term. It's really fun to hop on the scooters and head into town or the beach and not worry about parking. We rode them out to Hana which was my favorite part of the trip. Once you get to the winding part of the road I can't imagine being stuck in a car. It's was perfect to be exposed to the sun and rip around those corners. My wife and I visited Maui for our 15-year wedding anniversary and had an incredible experience from beginning to end, especially with Island Motion. Garrett picked us up at the airport and took us, our luggage and mopeds to our hotel, which was a solid 45 minutes from the airport. We had a BLAST and rode our mopeds all over the island. We brought a backpack for Safeway runs and for our shopping trips to Lahaina and had so much fun, much better than a rental car. For times that we went to dinner, we took our hotel's shuttle and never missed not having a car. It was a beautiful way to enjoy the island, no drama with parking, if you wanted to see something, just pull over and take a picture. Riding through Wailea at night with my wife and smelling the plumerias is a memory I'll have for the rest of my life! And over 5 days and hundreds of miles, we spent about $15 in gas. Can't beat that! Most of all, I appreciate Garrett's aloha spirit. He texted us on our anniversary wishing us well, we saw him out in town at a local pizza joint and he greeted us and he was on-location immediately when we had a minor mechanical issue with one of our mopeds.
