I ordered the eggs benedict, which was good, and my husband ordered the lox bagel. Unfortunately, in one bite he found there was a piece of some kind of wrapper in his food. We told our server about the wrapper and showed it to her on the plate, to which she replied "bummer" - not even a real apology, and she didn't offer to deduct it from our bill or anything. Very popular place. There are people sitting here all day for a coffee and snack. We decided to try them for breakfast. Another hot and humid day so we decided on iced coffee drinks. I had the papaya with vanilla yogurt and homemade granola. It was great for a hot day. The granola was still warm. Hubby had one of the breakfast sandwiches. Service was a bit slow and took some time to order and get our check but the staff was nice. Enjoyable, I'd have it again....but they serve it on a croissant to differentiate from regular Benedict's I guess, personally think you need traditional muffin or similar bottom to take the hollandaise and egg yolk. I love this place! We went almost every day for breakfast and dinner. We enjoyed the view and our food was always amazing. The waiters were also very nice and awesome to me and my family. Best fish Benedict ever. Genius idea to serve it on a croissant. And the serving size is enormous. I order a to go box when I put in my order. It's often crowded but usually you can find a seat at the bar. It's open air, across the street from the ocean and the staff are professional and friendly. Perfect open air cafe right on the waterfront of the Kona coast bay. Downstairs are cafe tables with tents and trees, upstairs is roof covered but also open to the fresh breezes of the ocean. We had the Island Benedict on a large open faced croissant (delicious!) Roasted potatoes had thyme sea salt seasoning. The breakfast wrap was delicious with eggs, Kalua pork and cheese. Croissant breakfast sandwich stuffed and crunchy, topped it off with a cinnamon roll as big as my face! Excellent island eatery, fast and super friendly service. It is so hard to give this place only three stars. Let me tell you my salad with seared tuna on it was out of this world. Tasted great. I ordered the half salad with a full order of seared tuna. Don't do this, I think I got ripped off on the salad portion big time. The tuna was seared perfectly and was awesome. I also ordered an Arnold Palmer. Be careful!!! They are five dollars each and the waitress for our table charged me five dollars for a refill as well. She even tried to sell me another Arnold Palmer at the end, she did not mention that there were not free refills. So she was going to try to scam me with $15 worth of Arnold Palmers. Thank God I said no I was done. When I got the bill and saw that she double charged me for Arnold Palmer's to the tune of 10 bucks that's when the value did not exceed the cost. It is shit like this that pisses customers off. All she had to do is say would you like another Arnold Palmer refills are five dollars as well? I would've said no. But you know what she thought she was going to pick up an extra buck on that 20% tip. But guess what the tip was about 20% after that shenanigans. My girlfriend ordered fish tacos with corn tortillas. She specifically said corn and I also repeated it to the waitress. And when the tacos were delivered they had taro tortillas. My girlfriend pointed this out to the waitress and she said well they're good too. But it's not what she ordered dingbat! Based on appearances I think she was more concerned with getting in her training for the next triathlon than taking care of her tables. Food was great, service was subpar. This alienated customers. I'm so glad we stopped here for breakfast! We came here before heading to 2 hours away and everything was delicious and I LOVE a restaurant that has a big menu so, there's something for everyone. They even had an extensive breakfast drink options and our party was served in a timely manner. They also offer the option to have a sever or you can order and pay online at your table and they bring it to you so, that is also nice. I would recommend stopping here as well for the view. A beautiful setting with views of the beach right in downtown Kona. The staff was very accommodating to our large group of 9 people. We did call ahead for a reservation. Most of us ordered from the brunch menu. The waffles with bananas and Mac nuts were outstanding, as was the coconut cream topping served with waffles. Burgers were also very good. Folks that came in after us were served their orders. As we looked around, I noticed that the server looked concerned. She came over, we explained our frustration. We could not be late for a tour. In a few moments the owner (I think she was) came to us, apologized, took full responsibility. Our orders had been split up and sent to other diners. She was sincere. So we read the reviews and decided to give this place a shot.. Not sure if it was just a bad day or if they were just really busy but it was not a good experience.. we were seated pretty quick but it took awhile for our server to come over. She was nice but we didn't see a lot of her. We ordered: Chai tea latte- this was average but took a long time to come out Hummus and Molokai Chips- the hummus was good but the chips tasted a bit stale Sunrise Hamburger with bacon and sweet potato fries- it came out with no bacon and the burger and fries were cold.. The burger was just ok and the fries were bland Kona combo pizza- when this finally came out I was told it was delicious Grilled steak sandwich- this was good Black bean tacos- These were pretty good but small The food was ok for the most part but the pizza did not come out with the rest of the food. We were told the chef did not like the way it looked the first time so they were recooking it.. it took awhile for it to come out. I can understand this if it was truly the case but if they were keen on food presentation why send out my burger and fries cold?? So it took awhile to get a servers attention (cause ours didn't come back to the table for awhile) to tell them.. Finally flagged someone down they asked if I wanted it recooked or just heated??? So they took it back to the chef and it came back out hot but granted it was the same burger I had taken a bit out of... So did they put it back on the grill after I had already eaten a bite of it or did they microwave it? I was pretty disgusted at that point and still no bacon on the burger..I had to tell our server about the no bacon as we were charged for it and no apologies just an ok I'll take it off the bill..
