The food was very good. Wait staff were marginally friendly and engaging - it felt like we had to draw them out. Beware - prices are not on the menu and it is spendy. Four of us had breakfast and it was $100 and two of us only had the granola and yogurt. read more

Excellent breakfast! I thought it was a coffee place by the name, but they have much much more and are a full service restaurant and bar and open for BLD. The freshly squeezed juices and Cocktails are done with care and taste amazing!! We avoided the wait by sitting at the bar, the service, drinks, and stories by Nate made for a great experience. We went back a few times and found it to be consistent, friendly and all wrapped in the amazing water view. We will be back! read more

The food was INCREDIBLE! I love eggs Benedict and almost didn't order them here because they were on a croissant versus English muffin. After getting it - this is really the ONLY way I want my eggs Benedict from now on! Definitely added to my favorites on Ali'i! Service was fantastic and with views of the ocean and open air to hear the waves - what more could you ask for??! read more

When I say I am a pancake lover, I'm not exaggerating. I had this place on my list to visit since we first booked our trip for their macadamia nut pancakes! We came looking for a table around 9:45am on a Sunday. We were told there was a 40 minute wait if we didn't have a reservation, which we totally understand because of COVID restrictions. We gave our number and decided to wait. No less than 5 minutes later we got a text saying our table was ready! We were sat on their top deck. What a beautiful view!! The waitress was so kind and polite! (I forgot her name! I was so focused on getting pancakes!) Our food came and I had a deep interpersonal relationship with my food. The macadamia nuts are diced small. With bananas and coconut syrup? Yes please. I opted for the Portuguese sausage. (Go out of your comfort zone. It's well worth it.) The meal was amazing, the view was amazing, and we will gladly be back again! read more

I really want to like this place more than we did. It's lovely, local, and the staff were all so great. It's just that it was pretty pricy for food that I really wouldn't hurry back for. It's Kona, so the coffee needs to be on point, and their lattes were oh so weak. The pancakes were ok, large and fluffy, and the bacon was quite good. The 'drag me through the garden' was a nice serving of veggies on a pretty decent croissant (they toast it and it was a bit burnt). The biggest disappointment was the eggs Benny because it's not real hollandaise - it's very rich (cloyingly so) but tastes like they must make it by whipping mayonnaise or something. We make hollandaise from scratch all the time, and this ain't it. I had a Lilikoi mimosa, which could have used more Lilikoi but was pretty. All in $70 for a family of 4 (yes 2 coffees and a mimosa, but also only 3 entrees) and none of the items really hit it out of the park for us. read more

The veggie omelet we got had bacon pieces throughout and the omelet itself had soggy vegetables. The breakfast sandwich had a hair on it. The service wasn't service, you order on an app. The table wasn't checked on enough. They did comp our omelette after we explained we are vegetarian and this isn't okay, which was nice! Overall, 2/5. I don't really understand how it has the rating it does. read more

Our first stop after flying in the night before from Alaska. The breakfast was great and the mai tais are the best on the island. I had one with macadamia nut liqueur and it was incredible. Definitely a place to watch the sunset from the top deck and enjoy good food and drinks. read more

Lava Java is still going strong in better expanded location. We sat in the upstairs and were treated to a wonderful sunset. Server was really running but did a good job keeping up with customers, accredit to her... meal was one of the best we had on the island with shrimp fettacini and roast chicken sandwich... no dessert. read more

Getting a seat facing the water on the large patio was perfect to take in an early morning breakfast. The Java Lava breakfast with Island Style pancakes (banana and macadamia nut topping) and portugese sausage hit the spot. Of course a cup of Kona coffee and a freshly squeezed orange juice. Good atmosphere and location. Service was good. And had a live singer to add even more Aloha spirit. read more

These guys do a great job, and one of my faves for breakfast. I'm in a rut and always order the Eggs Benedict and a Bloody Mary, my faves. Why fix something that's not broken. This popular ocean front eatery is a favorite for both locals and visitors. Wait time can be anywhere between 10-60 minutes long depending upon your arrival time. Highly recommend reservations using the App "Open Table" since most restaurants capacity has been reduced up to 50%. Highly recommend! read more

Friendly waiter and great items to choose from. Had the nachos and loved the crispy chips they served it on.

Excellent food and friendliest server! We dined up top and loved the little birds keeping us company. The shrimp were scrumptious! The banana macadamia nut pancake with coconut cream was amazing too. Omelette with pork and pineapple with perfect potatoes was tropical delight! So many options to select. Enjoy and Aloha! read more

Island Lava Java - Customizable and delectable! - American Near Me - Kailua Kona, Hawaii

First time in Kona . Had a somewhat stressful travel. Finally able to hit the "strip" and find some where to unwind. I walked by several places. This place was the most inviting, so I sat down. First off, this place has an excellent view of the water. Far enough back from the terrifying waves. Lol. The bartender and servers were very kind, personable, and professional. I walked in around happy hour which made it even better. Not just drinks. But food too. So, an affordable meal and cocktails for my first time here is a win for me. But not just the pricing, the customer service was great. She checked on me and made sure I was good the whole time. s far as the food. Pretty good. Not amazing, but good enough to quench your hunger. And the drinks were strong enough to make you ask for more. Not a crazy long review for me. Good food. Good pricing. Good drinks. Good view. And good service. Yep! I'd come back. read more

Not bad for a big place with a great view on a busy street. The soup was good, but the macadamia encrusted mahi was very tasty. Service was I rushed, but could have used a bit more attention. Still, not bad, just a bit slow. Only big negative was the mixed drink. Not good at all on the guava lemonade. Four other drinks were fine. read more

We ordered the mac nut pancakes with coconut syrup and the papaya yoghurt granola. The pancakes were thick and dense instead of light and fluffy. The papaya yoghurt granola was good, only wished that it was bigger! Service was slow and the ambience was alright considering it is located on a busy street in Kona. read more

Came here for breakfast and ordered eggs Benedict with the fish catch of the day and a mimosa. Great meal with a nice view of the ocean. Service was great and getting a table was no problem. Stayed at a nearby hotel and the walk was less than 5 minutes. If your on the west side of the big island this is a good place for breakfast. read more

Food, service and ambiance was top notch! We always come to Island Lava Java when visiting Kona!

Excellent food, great pool great portions, and wonderful atmosphere next to the ocean.

This place takes reservations so if you want prime seating with nice views, definitely call ahead. Mimosa Monday's ($5) -- we had the classic and was decent. Food-- luau omelette had pulled pork-- pretty good if you like the pork I had an egg white veggie omelette-- really good if you like pesto flavors Hubby had a macadamia banana pancake with eggs on the side-- pretty good also. All had fresh fruit on the side. All in all a great experience for our family esp if you are health- conscious and want simple egg white. Our total bill without tip was $60. The bathrooms are clean and the space is very relaxing. read more

Was at the restaurant yesterday with my friends on the second floor. The sever was a senior lady. She was impatient with us when ordering and ignored our table several times. However she was chatting with people on the other tables right besides us and she was chatting with them all the time (while ignoring my friend's hand)We had to stand up and ask her for services and the bill. I don't know why she treat us differently maybe because we were the only Asians there. Owner should screen their employees twice before hiring!! DO NOT RECOMMEND. Plus the food isn't good. read more

I would have to say that the view is truly beautiful, my wife and I stopped in for some lunch and ordered the poke appetizer, beet salad, and shrimp tacos, and a cup of soup, glass of wine and the "20 oz" beer, beet salad was amazing but the tacos could have used some cabbage, they charged "market price" for the poke which ended up being $17 for a very small portion of poke that tasted just okay... my 20 oz beer was served in a pint glass which is questionable but the service was very good, that being said we paid $72 dollars for lunch. Not worth it in my opinion. read more

I come here with my friend and decided to bring my little brother today. I made a reservation and was a little late so it took them a while to seat me. We ended up going upstairs into a corner so nobody really checked on us and when I asked about my brothers drink one of the girls gave me attitude and started to walk away before adding something about "it'll be ready when its ready" The food was good but the service was pretty bad read more

Loved this place. Great food and atmosphere right across the street from the beach great views definitely will go back.

My favorite place for breakfast in Kona! Great food, view,& coffee! Deck seating is terrific if you want a view of the ocean. What a great menu! I love the Eggs Benedict. Some of the best hollandaise sauce ever. Nice variety of sweet treats as well. This place has a nice staff with friendly service. The atmosphere is very open although there is inside seating as well, as deck. read more

This is my home base. I spend way too much time here. I only ever go for breakfast. I have heard the dinner menu is fantastic, but I'm a creature of habit and I really enjoy starting my day here. The food is delicious, but mostly I go for the view and the friendly service. I wish I could remember everyone's name, they're all great, but you'll be especially well served by Tatyana (aka Tanya), Angelina, and Rose. Some of my favorites are the fish Benedict (with salmon), the roasted veggie omelet, drag it through the garden (egg sandwich on croissant with veggies), papaya with yogurt and granola, just to name a few. I haven't had anything that I didn't like and there's a decent chance I've tried almost everything on the menu. Oh, and an extra side of bacon and black currant iced tea is a standard part of my order. I try other places for breakfast, but Lava Java is my fav, hands down. read more

We LOVE island lava java!! We went on a Friday night, and... oh my god. The DJ was ON POINT. He played music that would appeal to any age group, which could be relatively difficult to do, but he did the damn thing. When my boyfriend and I walked in, he was actually playing my FAVORITE SONG (beggin - Chris lake) so the mood/tone was already set for the night, I was so happy that he was playing house music. But he also played some oldies and classics... anyways. BRING! HIM! BACK! Additionally, our server Autumn was so helpful, sweet and laidback. She made good recommendations concerning the late night bites, and we were very happy with what we ordered and left feeling satisfied. We even came back the next night, because we we enjoyed the first night so much, and Autumn was back and even remembered our drink order! AUTUMN NEEDS A RAISE, PROTECT AUTUMN AT ALL COSTS!!! And finally, the ambiance is amazing. We sat upstairs and we had an ocean view. It's such a beautiful place to eat and just relax, plus the food and drinks are what keep us coming back. HIGHLY recommend island lava Java!!! read more
