I was really looking forward to the bloody Mary I had here a couple of years back, but, unfortunately, not quite the same. Still had the candy bacon, or at least a half of piece. Came in today around 10:30. Was seated promptly in the front with a beautiful view of the ocean. I decided to order the Lava Java breakfast with an "Island Style" waffle. That waffle and the fresh fruit was mind blowing!!! My only gripe is they forgot to bring out my eggs and I had to ask for them about 15 mins after my plate had arrived. Lava Java was great! We went in before our flight! They were full but offered us to sit at the bar! The bar tender was really friendly and took our order ! The granola had coconut shavings which is usually a no-go for me but it was perfection. The granola had to be homemade bc it was still warm. Delicious food - I ordered the Sunset Burger. It had grass feed beef which was lean and tasty. I opted to get avocado on my burger (I'm from California) and the slice was tiny, not quite ripe, just slightly bigger than a pickle chip. Maybe this is customary in Hawaii? I know fruit and vegetables all have to be imported, so maybe it's expensive. I got the fresh pineapple juice which was wonderful. My wife really enjoyed her Java Fresh fish tacos. They have this option where you can order and pay with your cell phone from the table. I was happy to see it was only an option, since after walking around the Gold Coast, I wasn't looking forward to learning a new app on my phone. The service was great and the restaurant is clean. We came regularly a bit before 8 and were lucky enough to get seats but it was usually the last table available. Do yourself and make a reservation if you can. We came a little too late once without a reservation and it was absolutely devastating. DEVASTATING DO YOU HEAR ME?! We will never make that mistake again! It is located right across from the water so it has a beautiful view We ordered fresh squeezed orange juice. The glasses were huge, (we later found out you could order two sizes but the server on the first day didn't give us an option and gave us the 16oz) it was still a welcomed surprise coming from New York. We honestly could've ordered one and split it. It was honestly the best orange juice I've had in a long time. I came the next few days really just for the orange juice. The lava Java breakfast waffle is simple but good and something nice to hold you over until breakfast. You have the option of sausage, bacon or fruit alongside a waffle and eggs. Luau Omelette is super filling and huge. This is another item we could have ordered and split. It was pretty unique and tasted really good. Waipo stack was Good! A bit more typical as it's an open faced breakfast sandwich but it's good! The fruit and avocado were fresh and tasty. Such a great experience from the moment I got to the host stand. Initially when waiting in line to be seated I thought there would be a wait with 3 parties ahead of me. I got to the front of the line and was greeted with a friendly smile and with a lei and gift bag in my hand the hostess said "I see it's a special occasion so I have a table upstairs for you." I was seated in the shade at the rail with a beautiful clear ocean view. The server was sweet, very prompt, and personable. I ordered an iced latte with Macnut milk; good coffee. From the breakfast menu I ordered The Waipio Stack Breakfast with my eggs over medium, and an orange, pineapple, and ginger juice that is made fresh to order. I love that the juice is freshly juiced and that you are able to choose what is in your juice. My combo was delicious. The food was also very good. Perfect lunch spot overlooking the beautiful ocean. We ordered two pizzas - both were delicious. I wish the menu was more consistent and wish that it wasn't a "timed" menu. We were seated once their lunch time began - 2pm and weren't allowed to be seated a minute sooner. This was our first foodie stop on our Big Island trip. We landed midmorning and decided to stop here for a quick brunch before heading to our resort. I was searching for a good spot with a view in Kona, and Island Lava Java was perfect. Parking is available in the rear of the shopping center. It's two hour parking, but no one was checking, really. It wasn't a busy day, so maybe that's why. The view here is simply picturesque. I grabbed a seat at the bar where I could angle myself to just stare at the ocean. I believe I arrived in the midst of a shift change as it took a while for one of the three people behind the bar to acknowledge me. Once my bartender came around, I was able to place my drink order. (I cannot for the life of me remember the drink's name I got, but it was a signature drink, and it was really good.) Once my drink arrived, I ordered the poke wrap and sweet potato fries. I was very surprised how quickly it arrived given the pace of everything else. It was perfect. The pieces of poke were sizable, and I even stopped eating the wrap and just unwrapped it. There could have been a slight less amount of the spicy sauce on it. Now, I love spice, it just took away from the poke taste. While I was only one of three people at the bar, it took an awkwardly long time to get my check, and then a really long time for her pick it up. I am pretty sure I was battling for her attention with a bar sales rep, which is fine, but i was ready to go exploring. The value of the meal was really good for the area.
