Came here first thing in the morning. One waitress was serving us upstairs. The fresh juice was amazing. We ordered a French press and got the worst coffee according to Hawaiian standards that I have been drinking for the past week. This tasted like yesterday's coffee mixed with hot water. Don't recommend it. Swapped it for a latte and it came way after our food arrived. Latte was cold. Mediocre taste. Hoping for a more robust Kona coffee but oh well. For the food: we each got a Benedict. I got the regular one with ham. Ham was overdone and crispy, unable to cut with knife. Friend ordered the ahi Benedict, however couldn't finish it, it was just kind of gross. For the side we both got fruit bowls, however one of our fruit bowls had melons that tasted like onions. ‍ The third and probably most wonderful dish was the garden scramble. It was perfect. We came regularly a bit before 8 and were lucky enough to get seats but it was usually the last table available. Do yourself and make a reservation if you can. We came a little too late once without a reservation and it was absolutely devastating. DEVASTATING DO YOU HEAR ME?! We will never make that mistake again! It is located right across from the water so it has a beautiful view We ordered fresh squeezed orange juice. The glasses were huge, (we later found out you could order two sizes but the server on the first day didn't give us an option and gave us the 16oz) it was still a welcomed surprise coming from New York. We honestly could've ordered one and split it. It was honestly the best orange juice I've had in a long time. I came the next few days really just for the orange juice. The lava Java breakfast waffle is simple but good and something nice to hold you over until breakfast. You have the option of sausage, bacon or fruit alongside a waffle and eggs. Luau Omelette is super filling and huge. This is another item we could have ordered and split. It was pretty unique and tasted really good. Waipo stack was Good! A bit more typical as it's an open faced breakfast sandwich but it's good! The fruit and avocado were fresh and tasty. Just leaving Lava Java about 15 mins ago. I ordered a single Belgian waffle w/ whip cream & strawberries. I also ordered the grass-fed burger w/ avacado slices, cheese, and bacon. (This don't come w/ the burger. You have to add-it on). The food was great! Our server was so sweet & very attentive. Loved the outside seating but the only thing was that our table didn't have an umbrella. So 3 of our people were sitting in the sun. That's why I gave it a 4. Also the middle high top table was uncomfortable. It's not really meant for short or chubby people because you can't scoot your chair. But other than that, I loved the ocean view! Such a great experience from the moment I got to the host stand. Initially when waiting in line to be seated I thought there would be a wait with 3 parties ahead of me. I got to the front of the line and was greeted with a friendly smile and with a lei and gift bag in my hand the hostess said "I see it's a special occasion so I have a table upstairs for you." I was seated in the shade at the rail with a beautiful clear ocean view. The server was sweet, very prompt, and personable. I ordered an iced latte with Macnut milk; good coffee. From the breakfast menu I ordered The Waipio Stack Breakfast with my eggs over medium, and an orange, pineapple, and ginger juice that is made fresh to order. I love that the juice is freshly juiced and that you are able to choose what is in your juice. My combo was delicious. The food was also very good. Delicious food - I ordered the Sunset Burger. It had grass feed beef which was lean and tasty. I opted to get avocado on my burger (I'm from California) and the slice was tiny, not quite ripe, just slightly bigger than a pickle chip. Maybe this is customary in Hawaii? I know fruit and vegetables all have to be imported, so maybe it's expensive. I got the fresh pineapple juice which was wonderful. My wife really enjoyed her Java Fresh fish tacos. They have this option where you can order and pay with your cell phone from the table. I was happy to see it was only an option, since after walking around the Gold Coast, I wasn't looking forward to learning a new app on my phone. The service was great and the restaurant is clean. Came here for brunch before going to the airport for a ride back. Made a reservation, parked in the back, was seated next to the water on the first floor. I went to the bathroom which was upstairs, which had an even better view! Mom and I shared the upside down pineapple French toast and fresh fish (halibut) eggs benedict with potatoes. Everything was really tasty: potatoes were crispy outside and soft inside, and the outside had good seasoning. Eggs benedict with fish had good hollandaise sauce, eggs were fine, the fish was a bit harder on the rim but softer inside, probably could've been a bit better. The French toast was quite thick, I asked for the syrup on the side and was really glad I did because it would've been really, really, really sweet otherwise (we barely ate any of it). Asked for whipped cream on the side as well which was good. Top of the French toast had fresh pineapple and nuts, good amount of it too. This was our first foodie stop on our Big Island trip. We landed midmorning and decided to stop here for a quick brunch before heading to our resort. We parked our car about a half mile down since it was hard to find street parking. It was an easy walk along the beach and the restaurant is located across the street from the beach overlooking the ocean. We had reservations at 1130am but was told that they were now serving lunch items. I really wanted to try the breakfast stuff darn it! We decided to start off with cocktails. I opted for a chocolate shake and my husband went for the mango martini. Both were delicious. For lunch we decided to share the Kalua pork pizza at the recommendation of our server. This was to die for! The flavors and the tenderness of the pork was decorous! We finished the pizza and were satisfied with our lunch. Service was good and patio seating is the best. I had to go order a second meal somewhere else or else I would have starved to death by dinner (42 year old male, 185 pounds). I was searching for a good spot with a view in Kona, and Island Lava Java was perfect. Parking is available in the rear of the shopping center. It's two hour parking, but no one was checking, really. It wasn't a busy day, so maybe that's why. The view here is simply picturesque. I grabbed a seat at the bar where I could angle myself to just stare at the ocean. I believe I arrived in the midst of a shift change as it took a while for one of the three people behind the bar to acknowledge me. Once my bartender came around, I was able to place my drink order. (I cannot for the life of me remember the drink's name I got, but it was a signature drink, and it was really good.) Once my drink arrived, I ordered the poke wrap and sweet potato fries. I was very surprised how quickly it arrived given the pace of everything else. It was perfect. The pieces of poke were sizable, and I even stopped eating the wrap and just unwrapped it. There could have been a slight less amount of the spicy sauce on it. Now, I love spice, it just took away from the poke taste. While I was only one of three people at the bar, it took an awkwardly long time to get my check, and then a really long time for her pick it up. I am pretty sure I was battling for her attention with a bar sales rep, which is fine, but i was ready to go exploring. The value of the meal was really good for the area.
