This place is dark and dingy looking. It's also doesn't smell right either like most jamaican spots in queens. It's not a place where I would recommend to eat from. read more

Ordered via GH, and food came on time. If you're asking, what's this Asian girl know about Jamaican food? Well, my cousins are half Jamaican, and I've sampled plenty of Caribbean dishes. That's why! Here's our order along with feedback! 1. Beef Patty with cheese in coco bread: Beef Patty was mild tasting, so anyfirst-timee tryers can absolutely enjoy. Personally, I like a lot of spices but was still delicious. It came hot and bread was warm, cheese was stretchy. 2. Curry goat with roti: curry flavor was on point, a good amount of goat pieces and it came with a side of steamed cabbage. Roti was huge so, no need to get an extra order. 3. Jerk chicken with rice and beans with cabbage: chicken was spiced up and you can definitely taste the flavors and heat. It might be because food was prepared earlier, but chicken itself was dry, which is a shame because the seasoning was good. Rice and beans was actually really good! There were some claims of food poisoning and I really hope those diners are okay. My first time experience, we had hot, cooked through food. We also ordered some Jamaican dumplings but I guess they ran out but they quickly submitted a refund for that. Great service and 4/5 stars on food. Is it the best I've had? Probably not but much better than expected. read more

My boyfriend and I were looking for a bite to eat and we decided on Jamaican cuisine. We entered the restaurant and noticed the almost empty cases. Not sure if they were just done cooking for the day or if items needed to be refilled, however, when asked what options they had available as my partner and I are pescatarian, we received a less than desirable response. The woman at the counter sucked her teeth and sighed. That surprised me, having Jamaicans in my family, I know many who do not eat meat. We decided to spend our money elsewhere. There are too many options available for restaurants to alienate potential clientele. The restaurant did look clean and organized, however, the chairs were empty. They did have a great selection of beverages. Perhaps a change in customer service skills would be beneficial. As someone who has been a Yelp Elite for years.. it was disappointing to say the least. read more

Very rude. The guy who answered the phone called us from DoorDash claimed he had no plantain which is nothing on a $50 order I asked him to substitute it, and he had a heart attack and canceled the order and hung up the phone on me. What a good way to have continued service. read more

Decided to give this restaurant a try on DoorDash. I called this morning just to ask what porridge they had today and was hung up on twice! I will never order from this restaurant. Rude customer service and needs training on how to treat customers. read more

This is my first time attending here. Over the weekend I went to the one in Wyandanch. It was a nice restaurant so i decided to try here. The staff was talking on the phone her persona came off as she didn't want to be there. My husband asked is how spicy is the chicken she said it's Jerk Chicken. So it left my husband wondering how spicy is the chicken . Prices are average and not expensive. Would I go back? Yes but I do feel the staff could be more friendlier. They are a representation of that business and the experience is a lot better when the customer service is on point. read more

Island Jerk - Front of Store - Caribbean Near Me - North Babylon, New York

Have been to this location many times before. I ordered the goat with rice and beans this time. It was good but the chef was a bit heavy handed on the spices. I couldnt feel my lips it was so spicy and hot. Nose was running. Lol. Overall it was good. Bad part was my sister found hair in her food. Ugg. That was not good news to me. I don't think I will be going back to this restaurant. read more

Every so often I get the hankering for Ox Tail and Rice at Island Jerk...With the Jamaican music blaring and the locals standing in a long line you feel like your in a different place far far away! The choices are sufficient, and theres Jerk Chicken, Stewed Chicken, fried Chicken, Fried Fish, Ox tail and a plethora of other choices served with a tasty dirty rice. You have to remember your in their world inside and the counter servers are quiet but helpful and seem to always get the order right. Orders come in small, medium and large and are reasonably priced for large portions. Theres enough choices to allow a different dish every time you visit. Its not ideal....But it is what it is...and thats good down home Caribbean cooking at a fair price point. read more

First I give the food at ISLAND JERK five stars! Whatever I order is sooooo very delicious AND they give good portions! HOWEVER, if you are not dealing with the owner who is really very nice and he makes you feel welcomed BUT ALL of his staff need to be trained on how to be friendly, nice, service with a smile and accommodating with no bad attitude. I would frequent this place more often but I can't deal with the unfriendly staff! read more

Let me keep this short and simple. I will never come back here again. They don't greet you, they gave me attitude when I ordered as if I'm bothering them and they don't need my money, they're slow at taking orders, they had more customers coming through the door while I'm waiting for my food and other workers are just completely ignoring them while they do absolutely nothing but just moving stuff around. I said thank you when she gave me my food - and she didn't say anything following that. I'll take my service elsewhere. read more

The moment we walked in the door i smelled the reeking stink smell of attitude. These people were so nasty and so rude for NO reason. After I placed my order I said thank you to one of the ladies and she didn't respond so I said thank you again and she rolled her eyes and helped the next customer !!! The food was absolutely TRASH !!!!!!!!!!!! Do NOT COME HERE read more

So I have been wanting to eat here for quite some time now and not sure why I haven't yet when I work so close by. I had to get a cake for a co worker 50th bday and didn't want to get our basic stop n shop cake...got to up it up on the quality for a special occasion. I knew upon arriving there that this place is right next door. I am trying so hard to be on a diet, but couldn't help myself but entered inside and ordered something I asked one of the lady there what she recommended...she spoke really fast and I didn't hear her but she provided me like 3 things that is really good, but said you should try ___________ this though. So not knowing what it is, I said okay I'll get it. lucky me I am adventurous and would try most foods. I brought it back to work...by the time it was lunch time for me at work I still didn't know what I was eating. I just knew I have rice beans...but with what? I opened it and saw what looks like scrambled eggs with chicken and potatoes? I was like this is it? this is what's good there...what was recommended for me to try? well of course I ate it anyways and my first bite was like WOW this is not like any other eggs...this has flavor...flavor that I enjoy. Even the texture of the eggs in your mouth made it taste better. Because of this first experience...I do want to come back and try other options. they have Tripe with beans that I am thinking of getting...who wants to go!? Note...the workers there doesn't have the best of the best attitude. Probably due to the name jerk lol Update...so I have a few ppl message me to let me know i ate ackee. Good to know:) read more

Generous giving it 4 stars.. Been eying this spot for awhile now since it's a rare occurrence to see Island food on Deer Park Ave. So I wasn't surprised when I went to pick up food on a Saturday night the place was packed with patrons awaiting to take-out. Ordered a large Jerk chicken with rice and beans, a large ribs and rice and beans combo, goat head soup, and vegetable patty. I'm not going to rate the ribs..I mean there is no science to it..just ribs and sauce I think they handled that just fine. Jerk chicken I asked for extra Jerk Sauce and it was spicy but not OVERWHELMINGLY spicy which is how I like it. But altogether it wasn't anything special--the meat wasn't the most tender-falling-off-the-bone type of thing, but it got the job done. Rice & Beans were really good--I give them props for that. The little cabbage and mini size sweet plantains on the side did nothing to help the meal, just extra. Goat Head Soup--was my mother's and she wanted me to add that the flavors were there but unlike what the lady behind the counter advertised there were no dumplings or carrots just meat and soup water. My mother was slightly disappointed. Vegetable patty was good as per my mother (maybe I should talk her into starting a yelp account since she had a lot to add to this review today?) Including two champagne colas came up to a total of $29. Not bad. Plus the portions are beyond generous for the large. Did well feeding my family of 4. I will try it again. read more

The extensive menu of authentic jamaican foods for reasonable prices draws a long line at lunchtime. Mrs. had some of the best curry goat we've ever had outside Jamaica. The small size dish she got was generously filled with expertly seasoned goat, rice and peas and sweet plantain. I had the curry chicken served with a roti, cabbage and plantain. Both generous succulent and delicious. After reading other reviews I should say - This place is 100% authentic jamaican service, like you might find in JA or in a Jamaican neighborhood in south Florida, right down to the full time praise-Jesus music they play. (Not reggae!) Many uninitiated (eg. white folks) don't understand how it works. Heres the deal: Jamaicas' custom of courtesy demands that you be polite. Rudeness is a huge no-no in Jamaican culture, so Say hello before you bark your order at the counter. Ask about todays special. Ask about todays soup. Smile. Be kind. Place your order and be patient- this is NOT fast food. Step back and wait and peruse the drinks. "Soon come!" You WILL be rewarded! Take your food around the other side of the wall to the empty dining room and enjoy while its hot. There will be much full-length finger licking, I promise. read more

Island Jerk - Curry chicken roti - Caribbean Near Me - North Babylon, New York

This place is either overly priced or the cashier got over on me because she could tell I wasn't from the area. I ordered ackee by itself no provision or fry dumplings because it was not ready not to mention the ackee was very oily; 2 beef patties and a large porridge which totaled $34.00. I only had my card and a $20 bill. The cashier asked how I was paying and I said it depends if it's over $20 with my card. The receipt didn't have the breakdown of price for each items. It's truly unfortunate how people take advantage - I understand that businesses are still trying to recover considering we are still in a Pandemic but this is the reason some businesses don't make it because of their dishonesty. Just nasty! read more

Not quite sure how to rate this place. I was in the mood for a curry goat and I prefer it Jamaican style. I decided to order takeout. I called and ask if they had curry goat as it was around 7pm. Before I could finish my question, I was told no phone orders and the phone clicked. I went into the location on Deer Park ave. One person was cleaning and the other was tending to customers. However, she did it all for the order, took the order, went to the kitchen got the food, took the payment and then give it to the customer. This mean that each customer took about 15 minutes to serve. Not the most efficient. All and all, the food was okay. read more

This was my first time going to this restaurant. My utter disdain for this place cannot be put in words. 1. The food is overly priced. One patti is $2.50. They don't even make the patties in house. They order patties with three inches of greyish colored dough with barely any filling. One medium oxtails is $18+ dollars The Oxtails were tough and undercooked. The cabbage was tough and undercooked. The flavors were bland with absolutely no Jamaican flavors such as thyme, scotch bonnet, or onion. The portions are generous. You get a large portion of undercooked tough unflavorful food. You might as well take your money and burn it instead of eating here There is No customer service. When I called to tell the owner my oxtails were tough and I couldn't bite it , they hung up on me twice. I wouldn't give this food to my worst enemy. They should be ashamed to call this authentic Jamaican food. Tables in eating area had plastic table cloths with paper lining with rips and pretty much all the tables were dirty. Not happy read more

The food is to die for my favorite is stew pork oxtails rice and peas cabbage and some beef patties to go please!! So good

The food is so so. The service is poor. Myself and my family come there quite often, and the service is getting progressively worse. My most recent run in, was to order my usual trays of cocktail patties for an event. I spoke with "Donna", and she was requiring me to come in to the store to place the order which was extremely out of my way. The order was not complicated it required a pencil and paper and I would have gladly given my debit card information. 2 teats of patties. But she was unwilling , And saw no issue with having me go out ofmy way due to employee laziness So I will look for a another restaurant to order from even if it cost me more money it's the principle. read more

We had a pretty good experience here. I thought it was a full service restaurant; they have a small dining room and a bar so I was a little confused when we had to order at the counter and then seat ourselves after. No matter...the ladies in the front were nice; definitely not as friendly as they could've been, but the woman who helped us was pretty nice...we tried to order ribs and were told only the weekends...so does that mean they have full service and a full menu available? Still confused about that. We ordered the sweet and spicy chicken (definitely lived up to its name) which was decently crispy (little on the dry side)and a nice thick sticky sauce that was really tasty, the oxtail that was tender, juicy, with a lot of flavor and seasonings/spices, rice and beans that were cooked nicely but lacked flavor, sweet plantains, and cabbage. Everything seemed well seasoned (for the most part) and tasted very good. We got a jamaican beef patty with cheese (so much gooey cheese...could've maybe used a little less and filled with more meat), and a side of macaroni and cheese (this was not made well at all. The cheese was not heated up so it was like old warmed mac and cheese that had hard gobs of cheese and wouldn't mix in that lacked flavor). The portions were a nice size and with 1 snapple came out to $35 (lg chicken, sm oxtail, side mac, patty, and drink) so not a bad price...they just need to make it more clear for people that want to experience their food and expect sit down service it is only available on the weekends as well as key menu items. They also need to work on that mac and cheese! More of a takeout spot in my eyes... read more

Was excited to try this North Babylon Jamaican eatery. Upon entry, we were kind if given a "who the f--k are you?" look from the staff. Guess it's a locals place. Counter service was cold, impatient and a little rude. Ordered anyway, got our orders fairly quick and took a seat in their drab dining room on the other side of a wall. Ordered the curry chicken roti and it was delicious, perfectly spicy and full of flavor. Equally good was the stewed chicken with roti. Jamaican beef patties are very tasty as well. The problem here isn't the food, it's great. The service, however, leads a little to be desired. For food I give it four stars. Service is a one and a half so I met in the middle with three. Recommended but for take out and done expect a warm welcome when you enter. read more

I ordered the ackee and salt fish and Callalou and was sooooo salty! The people are rude and need to be trained on customer service I paid $22 for a small bowl of disappointment and also the woman was giving me attitude because I didn't want any provisions so she said its going to me more! Like everyone else says: service isn't great. When I went in, I waited on line and then I realized the people in front of me already ordered. None of the workers acknowledged me. The other customer then shouted out that he'd like 3 beef patties. I then realized that is the method to order at this place: not to wait but to yell out the order. I proceeded to do just that and was given my food although I did have to wait quite a bit for my beef patty and cocoa bread. The cocoa bread and beef patty was about 3.50. The cocoa bread did not have much taste and the beef patty was okay. nothing to brag about. read more

If you want authentic Jamaican/Caribbean food while in long island, this is definitely the place to go to. When you walk in, the aroma is filled with West Indian, flavorful savory food. I always get the Plantains with oxtail sauce on top of the beans and rice with the spicy chicken. Last time I tried their oxtails with the usual meal minus the chicken and it was D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. I always get a small but their portions are huge so a small will fill you up just fine. In addition, the price and the portion is very fair. However, I must say that this is a place that is solely good for their food. When you come here, do not expect to get any sort of exemplary customer service. My first visit proved to be quite hectic based on the fact that I had never been there before and did not know what I had wanted so I felt a little rushed. However, once I got over that hump and had gotten the usual delicious dish, it wasn't so bad. The staff isn't terribly rude, however they aren't nice either. So as stated prior, do not expect any sort of customer service when you come here but when you leave you won't regret it! read more

Happy this place is nearby and doing great business (lots of orders in out when we were there picking up). The tastes as flavorful as the islands. Oooh their beef and chicken empanadas are light and awesome. Rip off. First of all there are no prices displayed. I wanted a small order of fish with rice but I was told it only comes in large. $17 and change. That's fine.
