In fact, I filled half a suitcase with fabric for two quilts on our honeymoon and then called and they shipped more! Well, it had been two years since my last visit and I wonder if they are under new ownership or have fallen on hard times because it is not what it used to be. First, it was really hard to find the hours because each source was a little different. There isn't a recording on their number and the website was down. We eventually chose to drive by on the weekend to learn they would be open until 2 on Monday. We worked it into our plans to go there specifically and I regret doing it, sadly. The shelves are barren. There were just a few options for Hawaiian fabrics. I didn't check the prices because there wasn't anything I wanted to buy. The employees did not speak to us, and my husband remarked that you almost feel like they're annoyed you're in their store. I'm not someone who wants princess treatment, and I've never met a stranger, but something was just off. I also needlepoint and had seen a post somewhere that they carry canvases. There were two pinned to a board, sort of traditional Hawaiian designs but very simple. So I would buy my canvases off island if you're wanting to stitch on theme from paradise. I just really hope that they're doing okay and would also be delighted if the shop returns to its former glory one day as it was always a little slice of heaven to me.

I really liked my experience at the Collective by Hawaii's Finest. I was talking to my family about…read moremaking a custom t-shirt that afternoon and by happenstance, I bumped into the Collective that night and it was pure perfection. The customer service was awesome and friendly. I tried a few different t-shirts to make sure it was the right fit and look and emailed them the file I wanted printed and it was printed fairly quickly. The t-shirt was $20 plus a back design for $10 and another $5 for a front pocket-sized design, so I spent about $36 total. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the t-shirt, I do recommend sending a larger file png if you're going that route because mine was a bit pixelated when blown up on the back. But still no complaints since I basically found the image on my phone and on the spot. Had I been more prepared I would have sent a high-quality image and resolution at 300dpi at the minimum.

Route 99 celebrated their two-year anniversary at their unique container store in Kuhuku and I was blown away by their vibrant celebration of all things local. Charlie, the owner of Route 99, is a beautiful soul who lives and gives aloha daily. She stays true to local and her celebration was epic! She had ono free food by Daterra Cuisine, live painting by Stephanie Boinay (and her four legged side kick, Jake) and Andy Sinkkink (they are so talented!) Face painting by As You Wish Arts, Lei making by Hawaiian Aloha Treasures, Massage (yes, massage!) by North Shore Sports Therapy, pop up booth by Flattery Designs Hawai'i, live music from Kalauili and also The Duo. Charlie had giveaways every thirty minutes and everyone was having the best time. Their collaboration with local artists sets them apart and you can feel the North Shore spirit in every product they offer. This is a great place to watch, learn and purchase glass sculptures in the laid back surfer and…read morehippy town of Haleiwa on the north shore of Oahu. You can watch the glass craftsman through the window blowing heat on glass and crafting a new Hawaii inspired decorative art piece, beautifully made and magically designed, most sitting on polished driftwood pieces. The price are reasonable, and there are even some discount pieces made by apprentice glass blowers. Most of the glass creations are local creatures, like turtles, dolphins, sea horses, etc., although they had some nice Dragons and other pieces as well. They are all beautiful. The pressure to sell is pretty high, as two girls are right on top of you for service, but they are not pushy. They pack it up real good for you if you are taking it home for a souvenir, and they even say if you break it, you don't own it. Not sure what happens after you do, and I wasn't going to try and find out.

I am not sure I can fully explain how cool this embroidery work is, but the attention to detail is incredible and the way they reflect light is extremely mesmerizing. George, who I take it is the owner, is a wonderful guide, talking with you about the art and answering any questions you may have. There is even an artists' studio in the front window where you sometimes may be lucky enough to watch a live demonstration of glasswork. Totally worth the stop.
